  • Analyzing The Latest Trends In Car Collecting

Long-time car-collecting experts and SPEED TV on-air analysts Rick DeBruhl and Steve Magnante have spent many an auction analyzing what’s going on around them, judging the marketplace, and evaluating the spikes and trends that continually shape the industry as a whole.

One of the more notable trends of this past decade has been the evolution of customizing. While hot-rodding (taking an original piece and tinkering with its performance and styling) is a time-honored tradition that dates back to World War II, the “resto-mod” movement has become the preferred method for the newest generation of restorers.

Resto-mods are the modern-day evolution of customizing a vehicle. In short, restorers fit historic cars with new drivetrains, updated engines, state-of-the art technology and modern-day conveniences, turning out user-friendly rides that still retain a yesteryear appeal.

  • Remembering 9/11 through Moving Art

11 years ago our country was devastated by the acts of terrorism that occurred on 9/11/01. By now many of us have begun to heal, but the memory of that day will always remain. Some great people over the years have done many different things to remember those who passed. One of the great things about the automotive aftermarket is that in times of need we always seem to pull together and give back in some shape or form. We've seen a number of cars, trucks, bikes, etc built in remembrance of 9/11 and many auctioned or displayed to benefit those directly affected. We've decided to share some of our favorite tributes in the gallery below. Thanks to all that put in work to build these great works of art.

  • Barrett Jackson 2012 Scottsdale, AZ

This weekend is one that many car guys take some time away from the garage wrenching on their projects and gather around the glow of their TV to watch the annual Barrett Jackson Scottsdale Auction. Some of us watch to drool over some of the rarest cars on the earth, while others watch to see how well a car similar to theirs sells. I'd say that I fall into the first group. I like to hear the stories behind some of these special cars, and how they made their way to the auction.

Some people may not realize, but the Barrett Jackson auctions aren't just for super cars and million dollar classics. If you look at the Auction Docket, you will see everything from "boring normal cars" to tractors, campers, and motorcycles. Don't let the TV networks fool you, there is something for everyone at these auctions!

Below are a few of my favorite vehicles going up for auction this year. I can't wait to see what they go for, and what else is going to go across the auction block! Have a guess what any of these special cars will sell for? Post up your predictions!

When was the last time you saw one of these at your local cruise-in?

How about a famed 50's concept car?

Or lastly, maybe you prefer a replica of the 1939 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car?

  • Having an Original Hemi isn't enough for you?

Then you may want to get yourself registered for the next RM Auction in Arizona. If you thought the prices on original Hemi cars were hefty.. wait until you see what THE original Charger will go for.

This car was the first to use the iconic Charger name, and was used to show off Chrysler's new 7.0 Hemi V8. This car last changed hands in 2001, and over the years has been restored back to like-new condition. I think any motorhead would be thrilled to have this in their garage. I can imagine that 600HP Hemi really moves!
