    • A Kustom Kaiser Catches Jay Leno's Eye.

Each year when we hit SEMA we try and showcase our favorite vehicles at the show in our coverage here on the blog, YouTube, Facebook, and our other social media outlets. This year a Kustom Kaiser caught our attention on setup day and we were able to catch up with builder Keith Charvonia to shoot a feature on his car. We were blown away by the attention to detail. Keith also told us he was going to be hitting the show circuit hard this year after SEMA.

Fast forward a few months and Keith sent us an update on Project Drag'n. It turns out his Kaiser has caught the attention of some BIG names in the car world. Recently Jay Leno asked for Keith to come on an episode of Jay Leno's Garage to talk about the car. If you know anything about Jay's taste in cars, he likes the best of the best. Watch the Jay Leno's Garage site for the upcoming feature, but until then you can watch our interview at SEMA where Keith debuted the car below.

We've also heard some whispers about David Freiburger pushing for a feature on the Kaiser in an upcoming issue of Hot Rod Magazine. I'd say it's going to be a good year for Drag'n and Keith!

    • John Findra: The "Anti"-Restorer!- Custom Built Model Cars

Auto enthusiast John Findra doesn't work on real cars. He's a model builder, and much of his business comes from customers who'd like custom model replicas of their favorite old cars. But for fun, he builds classic car models and then "un-restores" them! "Underhauling", as opposed to overhauling.

John says we live in a world where perfection is so tantamount to success that "perfection almost becomes boring. A car in its original state is a man-made idea of perfection, but when you take that car and put it out in nature, nature now takes over and creates its own perfection. Nature has its own way of reacting to metal and rubber."

John's research takes him into overgrown fields and old barns, two of the best places to find old, abandoned, rusted-out cars. He brings his camera with him, so he can document the pattern of shattered glass, the shape of the rust holes, the way paint peels, how rust drip lines form. Then John goes back to his workshop and creates model cars that reflect the reality of "nature's perfection" (see an example in photo above).

    • Getting Sideways in Moscow.

While browsing some other automotive blogs, I spotted this on the Top Gear UK site (I still only recognize this as the only Top Gear show.. no matter what the U.S. TV networks try to market to us!). It is a top quality production done on the streets of Moscow with 2 of the top professional drift drivers. Videos like these make me wish I became a race car driver, too cool!
