Eastwood Master Steering Wheel Repair Kit

Product Overview:

Description

If you have a ragged old steering wheel and can’t find a replacement, you can refresh it instead with the right tools and supplies from Eastwood. Our money-saving Master Steering Wheel Repair Kit restores your steering wheel to like-new condition, ready to top-coat. Over time, UV light from the sun depletes the elastomers in your plastic or hard rubber steering wheels, resulting in ugly cracks that really date your car. This master steering wheel restoration kit helps you bring those steering wheels back to life.

  • PC-7 Epoxy
  • Adhesion Promoter
  • PRE Painting Prep
  • Instructions and Restoration Book

The special ingredient of our rubber steering wheel repair kit is a can of PC-7 epoxy that acts as a glue for everything from wheels to gas tanks. You’ll also receive aerosol cans of SEM adhesion promoter and Eastwood painting prep to fill old cracks and get the wheel ready for a fresh top coat. Follow the included instructions and handbook or use our cracked steering wheel restoration guide in the Eastwood Garage. We’re a trusted member of the DIY community with the tools and services you need.

Repair Plastic and Hard Rubber Steering Wheels

The ravages of time and UV light conspire to deplete your steering wheel of its elastomers. The resulting cracks can be repaired with one of our money saving kits. Use this Master Steering Wheel Restoration Kit with 1-lb. of PC-7 Epoxy (52047), an aerosol can of PRE Painting Prep (10041Z), an aerosol can of Adhesion Promotor (52366Z), instructions and a copy of the Steering Wheel Restoration Book (52017) to repair cracked wheels and ready them for the color top coat. The SEM Vinyl Dyes (52066z-52081Z) work great over this kit.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eastwood equals quality The master steering wheel resto kit is for a 50 Power Wagon and the instructions were very good and since it's an Eastwood product I expect nothing but quality. We have purchased a lot of product from this company and have never been disappointed in any way, I waited a couple months for this product to come in and I could have bought it elsewhere but waited because I know what I am getting from Eastwood!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked well I used this kit on a 60 year old wheel. As stated earlier the book is out of date and it would be helpful to have information on paint selection. When I called to place an order SEM Classic Coat 17093 was suggested. I am not sure what the difference is between Classic Coat and Color Coat paints/coatings.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from DIY Steering Wheel Kit The two part epoxy filler and the pre prep solution made this part of the project go well. now comes the tedious, but important sanding. I tried the power sanding as described in the booklet, but it was too aggressive. So I have reverted to hand sanding. I understand why recast steering wheels seem pricey.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Product OK The steering Whell restoration handbook is out dated and directs you to use lacquer paint which is almost impossible to aquire any more. Instruction doesn't say anything about using the motivators that's sold in kit. I've havn't completed job yet and really don't know what finish paints to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product as expected Everything is supplied in the kit, and like any other EASTWOOD product I have had experienced - no surprises, and an excellent result.

ANY IDEA OF WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL RESTORATION KIT WILL BE BACK IN STOCK?

Due back in 8/8/18

I'm confused here. Your Steering wheel restoration page says to use the gray self etching primer but it is not included in the restoration kit. Also, do you apply self etching primer over the plastic adhesion promoter?

Asked by: robert
The self etch was used for years in the repair of steering wheels. With the newer interior dyes it is very common to use the adhesion promoter. This is the reason for including the adhesion promoter in the kit.

My 1950 Austin wheel has lost most of the bakelite and someone wrapped duct tape around. Can I reconstruct the wheel around the metal frame with your kit?

Asked by: Carroll
You could certainly add this product to repair your steering wheel. If your wheel needs work all the way around you may just need to purchase more of the epoxy. Part number 52047.

I have a 1951 Ford; the steering is black; it has 2 med size cracks (each side of the horn ring support, back side). Is this all I need for a repair/restoration? Does this kit include final coat or is that an additional step? Gloss or semi?

Asked by: Jules51
This will not include the final color coat.

I'm not clear on when and where to use the 'Plastic Adhesion Promoter.' The printed instructions say 'apply then topcoat.' There is no mention of it in the Turpin manual. I'm priming and painting. Do I use it before priming and again before paint?

Asked by: BRed
Yes, the Plastic Adhesion promoter needs to be applied before your primer and paint.
