Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great micro flake Added this into blue base and it worked out perfectly. The customer gave me a automotive base coat and it didn't have enough pop that you need on a motorcycle. I added 75 grams to one quart of color and, followed that with three coats of vibrance clear and it was perfect.

Questions & Answers

I'm looking for a brilliant purple, green and blue flake to paint my bike. Would really like it to pop in the sun light and at night but not quite sure what size flake to use. Any suggestions on achieving this. Tip size for medium flake ❓

Asked by: Charles
1. First spray a base color that has a course metallic in the paint. 2. You should use two spray guns for this operation one for just clear coat and one for clear with the metallic flakes. To get your flake to really pop you need to apply it in the clear in multiple layers. Apply your first coat of just clear as a tack coat then let it flash then apply a couple of coats of the clear with your choice of flake then let that tack/flash then apply another coat of just clear and let that flash then apply another coat of clear with flake. Repeat this process until you achieve your desired look. Then apply up to three good coats of just the clear to finish the application. Let this cure overnight then sand and buff to your desired finish gloss. 3. if using medium flake a 1.3mm to 1.5mm tip should be fine. if using large/monster flake you may need to use a 1.7mm to a 2.0mm tip. Old suction style guns or Newer Gravity HVLP guns will all work. it is recommended to us the Gravity HVLP guns. Remember to keep the paint and flake moving in the cup to keep it evenly dispersed. I recommend using Eastwood Intercoat Clear (15678ZPA) as this product is designed to hold the flake and effects in suspention and lock them in place to prevent them from laying down which will make them grab the light and really sparkle. Always practice your technique on some spray outs first. Good Luck!!

Can it be mixed directly in the paint. Already using a blue met.

Asked by: Danlee
This can be used directly in paint but it will alter the color.

Can you get multiple color effects (flip flop of colors) if having a different base color than the flake that you add? I have a black base coat and want a Black, Blue, Purple flip flop effect. What would be the best way to achieve this?

Asked by: Blah Blah
To get a true multi color flip flop color effect, you would want a Chameleon pearl additive and apply over a black base coat. We used to carry, but unfortunately no longer offer. At one of the shows I attend, there is a T-Bucket that has a black base and dark blue flakes over it (applied so the black is not fully covered by flake) and that sometimes looks blue and sometimes looks black.

Will the flakes spray through my pps cups or do these need to be sprayed without gun filters?

Asked by: Extremema
You will need to spray these without the filter in the gun.

Do you have any flakes that could be used with a satin black single stage kit?

Asked by: Johnathan
Any of the flakes or pearls that we sell could be used in the paint in reference. You will want to apply a clear coat over top though.
