Eastwood CONTOUR SCT® Buffing Drum

Product Overview:

Description

Polish metalworking projects to a pristine finish by attached this fine buffing wheel to your surface conditioning tool. The Eastwood CONTOUR SCT® Buffing Drum is made for metal finishing on numerous surfaces. Simply add a liquid buffing compound and start buffing. Each drum is four inches wide and four inches in diameter. The soft wool felt can be used on straight or curved surfaces, and with a top rate of 4,000 RPM, it will leave metal shining.

Our step 1 cutting and buffing drum is approved for a variety of metals, including steel, aluminum, stainless steel and sheet metal. It’s a direct attachment to the Eastwood CONTOUR SCT sanding tool that lets you give metals a mirror finish after rust and paint removal. The Eastwood Garage has more about how you can polish metal with the CONTOUR SCT. You can also call or email our DIY experts for advice on how to Do the Job Right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this. Started with 80 grit. Worked my way up to buffing wheel. Results speak for themselves. Almost mirror like finish on stainless steel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good! Just got it. So not a ton of time using yet. It's a solid ab beefy tool. Very strong with good adjustment of speed. A ton of different ways to use it with all of the different "heads" you can put on it. I got three different ones in addition to the stock head. This one worked well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it claim it does. I liked using the Buffer drum, so far it has not scratched or burned paint, it a little dusty but a wiping after cures that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job, but too expensive Bought the SCT with drums to restore a 1946 Spartan Manor travel trailer. The buffing drum is very good for removing oxidation and old marks on the 74 year old skin. But it does get smaller in diameter quickly as it does so! One almost complete pass over the 22’ coach and it’s really small. It won’t last long enough to do the rough cut over the entire skin. The tool to break up old compound does a fair job, but not great. It builds up compound and metal too quickly. To do a decent job, you’d need at least three of these: one each for tripoli, green, and white compounds….times two or three to have some drum left after going over a 23’ coach. Then there’s the need for the spiral drum to finish. Plus, there are no narrow buffing drums for tight areas between windows, around lights, etc. I like my SCT, but these deficiencies forced me to order some Zephyr supplies.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not much usefulness on a trailer restoration These don’t last long in use. Especially because of the necessary use of the rake to eliminate buildup of metal and compound. They wear unevenly, especially when used on uneven surfaces like the vintage travel trailer/camper I’m restoring. The diameter should make it faster to buff and shine, but you are limited in tighter areas; it leaves an untouched zone because it won’t fit into corners or near objects like lights. It also leaves compound residue when buffing over rivets. On a typical Spartan trailer, there are about 10,000 rivets holding it together: with the SCT, the residue is left as a gummy, black material that can only be removed with mineral spirits or such. Another issue is that it can’t get into tighter areas like between windows; this is more a problem with the SCT, not the drum itself. Although there are narrow wheels for the SCT, there is no narrow buffing drum. Because of these issues, I have the SCT and a buffer to use Zephyr wheels. The Zephyr can remove oxidation and limited scratches, while the SCT is severely limited. This drum, while Eastwood labels it for cutting and buffing, doesn’t do much on oxidation, even with Tripoli compound. I find the buffer with Zephyr wheels are far superior.

I have an aluminum fuel cell but it has been around awhile. What buffing drum will work the best on this material, and should I use any buffing compound?

Asked by: 1956 Ray
You would want to start with a cutting drum like this https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-contour-sctr-spiral-sewn-buff-drum.html with the Tripoli compound then finish with this buffing drum and white rogue compound.
