Rated 4 out of 5 by from plating system OK , ITS TRU THAT YOU HAVE TO GET ALL THE RUST OFF AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE , I STARTED COATING SOME BOLTS AND WASHERS THAT I THOUGHT WERE CLEANED BUT IT DOES SHOW YOU WHERE THE RUST IS, SO : HERE'S THE GOOD PART: WHEN I TOOK THE PARTS WITH A LITTLE RUST STILL ON THEM BACK TO THE WIRE WHEEL / GRINDER TO REMOVE THE RUST , TO MY SURPRISE , IT NOT ONLY REMOVED THE RUST ,IT POLISHED UP THE PARTS BETTER THEN THE POLLISH THAT COMES WITH THE KIT. IF YOU PUSH HARD IT WILL REMOVE THE COATING AS WELL SO DON'T PUSH THE PARTS HARD ON THE WIRE WHEEL. THIS STUFF REALY WORKS. NEED TO CHANG OUT THE BATTERIES OFFTEN.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It works well ... but ... I used a 3amp plating rectifier instead of the batteries. Plated the lug nuts on my motorhome. Before I plated them, I got them down to 1,000 grit and polished them with black, then brown. The plating system works. However ... the metal is somewhat soft. It comes out of the plating solution almost white (typical of zinc). I polished them after CAREFULLY on the buffer with white and a soft bonnet. They came out nice. Plated some carburetor parts for the motorhome also and they came out very nice. This is NOT a chrome - so don't think you are going to get that. It's zinc with some tin. Hosed unplated and plated lugnuts with water ... the unplated ones immediately flash rusted. The zinc-tin plated ones are still rust free. So ... yes. It works. Gobbles up anode bars :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best things I have bought from Eastwood I have to admit that this totally exceeded my expectations. Attached are some before and after pics of my fuel injection rail and ratiners. I gave them a quick clean in the blast cabinet followed by a wipe down with Eastwood Pre Paint. Left them in plating solution for about 10 minutes, then polished with the provided compound and a cloth.

can I do an a/c muffler with this? Would I have to close off the tubes first? thanks for your help

Asked by: PhilD
You can plate anything that is electrically conductive. If you do not want the plating on the inside you would have to close off the end of the tubes.

will the tin/zinc coating adhere to lead filler

Asked by: kramerduke
In short…Yes…and no.. Let me explain: The Tin-Zinc plating has varying degrees of attraction depending on the metal being plated based on natural affinity. Put a penny or piece of brass in the solution, give it current and it plates instantly and with maximum thickness. Add a piece of steel…it will plate it but not as well or as fast as copper and brass. Aluminum, less so and so on. It will cover the Tin/Lead filler but will take much longer and the plating will be somewhat thinner.

I understand this product is for small projects. However is it feasible to buy two kits in order to do larger projects?

Asked by: Lance Shaffer
Yes, it would include everything you need. Purchasing all items separate would end up costing more than the kit.

This kit is best used on smaller parts then bumpers as the part needs to be submerged to work.

What is the largest part that can be plated

Asked by: Dharper
This answer would be dependent on how you set it up. The part has to be completely covered with the solution. You could make a custom tank to hold larger parts than the stock plastic bottle. I wouldn't go much larger than a timing chain cover.
