Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black Primer

Product Overview:

Description

For a more durable Extreme Chassis Black® finish on bare metal, start with this Extreme Chassis Black® Primer.

Once your chassis is stripped of old paint and surface rust, apply Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black® Primer as the foundation for a lasting finish. This black metal primer is specifically formulated for use with Eastwood Original Chassis Black Paint and Extreme Chassis Black. We’ve fortified the primer with epoxy to give it impressive adhesion and seal against corrosion. The black-under-black also means fewer coats of Chassis Black paint are needed to achieve the final look.

Eastwood has bare chassis primer in one-quart cans for use with a paint gun or in 14-oz. aerosol spray cans. Both are formulated for use on undercarriage parts that are exposed to higher temperatures and stress than body panels. It’s a great choice on frames that have been stripped or media blasted, and you can also apply Chassis Black primer over existing finishes. Learn more about the Chassis Black system and our entire line of suspension paints by visiting the Eastwood Garage or calling the tech team at 1-800-343-9353. We’ll help you Do the Job Right on any restoration, repair job or custom build.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extreme Chassis Black Primer = Good Stuff Applies smoothly (sprayed), covers extremely well. Seems very durable, minor bumps while handling the parts did not leave divots or chips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good products, not cheap, but poorly packed. I really like this product over rust encapsulator. However this shipment had no packing and the cans were all dented. Luckily non broke open. Too bad there isn't more responsible packing. When spending money on a product, I expect it to be safely packed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to apply I don't have much experience using spray paints and was concerned a Lil about applying this paint to heavy and getting runs in it but this paint doesn't run easily at all there were a few spots I thought it was gonna run due to heavy spraying and it did not. I had all my pieces hanging from the rafters also! All around great products!

Questions & Answers

Can it b used over a Rust-Oleum(sry!)self etching primer?https://www.rustoleum.com/-/media/9791233F5B534199B1C4FB4B705732B3.ashx - Primer already applied n small sections. If=NO, what do you reco? Sand/strip off offending paint then use primer? THX!

Asked by: Anonymous
When painting I never like to mix chemistry and Rustoleum doesn't work for me if you painting a vehicle. Strip primer, sciff surface with a Scotch guard Pad (RED) . clean surface with Pre-Paint Prep. Spray with Epoxy Primer, wait 3-4 to cure and then. Decide what you want to do next.

Can this be applied over surface rust?  My frame has pitting with some rust and some bare steel looking to make sure paint sticks to the bare steel spots.

Asked by: Tyler
I would apply a rust Encapsulator to insure the rust doesn't leach trough the paint over time. Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Aerosol Gray 15oz or Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Plus

Will I have to sand the primer if I wait 12 hours to topcoat with extreme black? What is the minimum time to wait to topcoat after two coats of primer?

Asked by: Danny
Yes, you would need to sand at that point. You can top as soon as 4-6 hours after applying your last coat.

Can you use Picklet 20 under the primer?

Asked by: Danny
You can definitely use picklex under this primer without any issues. The only known compatibility issues we have experienced with picklex is when it is used in conjunction with an acid based self etching primer.
