Eastwood Plasma Cutter 40 Amp Versa-Cut is rated 4.5455 out of 5 by 110.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Tool I have bought in years. I received the cutter, set it up, and started cutting. I only had a 110 volt plug so I used it. I tried cutting 3/16 plate and it had trouble making it though. I put In a 50 amp 220 volt plug.Wow what a difference. it cut the 3/16 like it was butter. It is like cutting with a Laser. This is easy to use. A short learning curve and you are cutting. This is the first Plasma cutter I have used and recommend buy this unit. If you are looking for a plasma cutter go ahead and spend the money for this one. I looked online before I purchased and Eastwood's had the best review. sure you can by a cheaper one but a little extra money and you have a great cutter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from outstanding This works well for me once I get used to the full bodied tip. I am cutting .060 steel in tight detail and would like to see a reduced nozzel in order to see the pattern I am following. Cutting American Flags and the stars are difficult, I am getting the hang of it though. The tips I purchased are of no use and do not help in seeing the tip or pattern. Other than that the product is great, far superior to the entry level cutter I burned up. Some instruction or helpful hints would help with the cutter, learning from experience could be shortened, a handbook would be nice. Thanks for your concern. Merry Christas & Happy New Year Brandon

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with the product I got my first unit in January and it lasted 2 minutes, but the Eastwood support team got me another one in a few weeks and it has been a great tool. I've cut 1/2" flat ( its took a couple of passes but once I cleaned the slag off with a grinder it looked like a cut it with a saw. The torch head can be run along a piece of angle iron as a guide(3/8" offset) for straight cuts. 1/4 " is like cutting paper, I'm very happy with the unit. this is my second purchase of Eastwood products, I have a Mig 175 which I've run 40 pounds of wire thru and have had no issues, it's worked perfectly

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great unit, kind-of-fun! Okay, this plasma cutter rocks! Much-quicker setup and cleaner than using torch, plus the surrounding material doesn't get anywhere near as hot with the plasma than with a torch (which will warp metal). Surgical strikes! My plasma worked okay on 120V, but it works way-better on 208V. I find if I don't have a perfect ground-clamp on the material, the cutting action is significantly reduced, surprisingly-so. Like, if I pinch a ground through a metal-fence vice-gripped to my work, the cutting-action is dull. But simply moving the ground-clamp 2" away (directly to the work), she'll cut like a laser. I don't notice the same "grounding perfection" requirements from my Mig, Tig, or Arc welders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice machine I recently purchased this machine and have used it 3 times. The thing is very simple to hook up and use. I am very pleased with the performance, I have cut 1/4" steel down to 18 gauge and it performed flawlessly. I am worried about consumable life but after cutting with it several times, I am not seeing any wear on the tip. I do wish it came with more consumables than 2. Quite pleased, hopefully this thing holds up well. Appears to be well made and much better torch than the Chinese models on eBay I was considering for slightly less money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from working good I have been going back and forth on buying a plasma cutter big brand names are just to much cannot see spending that kind of coin. I was a machinst for the past 38 years and used high dollar plasma cutters so I was a little worried on buying the Eastwood Plasma 40. I pulled the trigger 2 weeks ago and been using it on a restore of a 55 Pontiac Star Chief. I'm Very impressed with it right now should of bought one years ago cuts sheet metal and some 3/8s angle like the big brand names Good Job Eastwood

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First time Plasma owner So far I am very happy. When I initially hooked up the Plasma Cutter there was an air leak around the regulator. I was able to fix this by reinserting the air hose that must have come loose during shipping. This is my 2nd major purchase from Eastwood (own MIG 175 Welder) and both products had problems that I could directly attribute to shipment handling. Not mentioning the company but Tom Hanks worked for them in the movie Cast Away. So far I have cut 5/16" 4" angle iron with no problem. I am using a small air compressor (Makita 3 HP motor produces 6.5 CFM at 90 psi) and I also purchased the Eastwood Disposable in-line filter and the Plasma Cutter 40 is performing well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy I bought this 2 years ago and its the most used piece of equipment in the shop right behind the eastwood MIG welder.... One hint, Since Eastwood no longer carries extended length tips and have never had fine point nozzles..... The Hypertherm Kaliburn SR-45i electrodes, nozzles and air diffusers will all fit the Eastwood Versacut 40. You can order them online or get them at most local welding supply shops.

What is the clear plastic tube with the metal ball in it, and where does it go?

Asked by: timdhawk
We apologize for the confusion. That can be disposed of. It must have been included by mistake. It is a tester piece the manufacturer uses to test the unit before they are sent out.

Do you have to touch or press the torch into the material first to strike the arc. On the machine i'm replacing thats the process, and it just always seemed to foul the tips. So i don't want to get system like that again.

Asked by: hotrods
Our Plasma cutters all have a high frequency start that does not require you to touch the surface to start the arc.

You mention that it cuts steel and aluminum, will it cut copper?

Asked by: Viki002
You certainly can cut copper with this unit. Just make sure to move a bit slower than you would with normal steel since copper ha a low electricity conduction rate.

About Eastwood Versa-Cut 40 Plasma Cutter

This innovative, affordable, plasma cutter was designed and developed by Eastwood's own R&D staff, and tested in-house on the same type of real-life projects you'll use it for. It doesn't matter where you need to work, because this plasma cutter's voltage-sensing technology lets you use either a 110v or 220v outlet with our adapter cord.

What is "Plasma Cutting"? Plasma cutting utilizes a high-velocity jet of ionized gas (plasma) that conducts electricity from the torch of the plasma cutter to your metal workpiece. That directed plasma stream (about 30,000 degrees F) heats the workpiece, converting the metal to molten slag. That high-velocity stream literally blows the molten metal away, leaving clean, precisely cut metal.

**Due to the High Frequency start feature of this machine, we do not recommend using this machine on a CNC plasma table.**
