Eastwood Versa-Cut 40 Amp Plasma Cutter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 124.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Tool I have bought in years. I received the cutter, set it up, and started cutting. I only had a 110 volt plug so I used it. I tried cutting 3/16 plate and it had trouble making it though. I put In a 50 amp 220 volt plug.Wow what a difference. it cut the 3/16 like it was butter. It is like cutting with a Laser. This is easy to use. A short learning curve and you are cutting. This is the first Plasma cutter I have used and recommend buy this unit. If you are looking for a plasma cutter go ahead and spend the money for this one. I looked online before I purchased and Eastwood's had the best review. sure you can by a cheaper one but a little extra money and you have a great cutter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from outstanding This works well for me once I get used to the full bodied tip. I am cutting .060 steel in tight detail and would like to see a reduced nozzel in order to see the pattern I am following. Cutting American Flags and the stars are difficult, I am getting the hang of it though. The tips I purchased are of no use and do not help in seeing the tip or pattern. Other than that the product is great, far superior to the entry level cutter I burned up. Some instruction or helpful hints would help with the cutter, learning from experience could be shortened, a handbook would be nice. Thanks for your concern. Merry Christas & Happy New Year Brandon

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with the product I got my first unit in January and it lasted 2 minutes, but the Eastwood support team got me another one in a few weeks and it has been a great tool. I've cut 1/2" flat ( its took a couple of passes but once I cleaned the slag off with a grinder it looked like a cut it with a saw. The torch head can be run along a piece of angle iron as a guide(3/8" offset) for straight cuts. 1/4 " is like cutting paper, I'm very happy with the unit. this is my second purchase of Eastwood products, I have a Mig 175 which I've run 40 pounds of wire thru and have had no issues, it's worked perfectly

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great unit, kind-of-fun! Okay, this plasma cutter rocks! Much-quicker setup and cleaner than using torch, plus the surrounding material doesn't get anywhere near as hot with the plasma than with a torch (which will warp metal). Surgical strikes! My plasma worked okay on 120V, but it works way-better on 208V. I find if I don't have a perfect ground-clamp on the material, the cutting action is significantly reduced, surprisingly-so. Like, if I pinch a ground through a metal-fence vice-gripped to my work, the cutting-action is dull. But simply moving the ground-clamp 2" away (directly to the work), she'll cut like a laser. I don't notice the same "grounding perfection" requirements from my Mig, Tig, or Arc welders.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from working good I have been going back and forth on buying a plasma cutter big brand names are just to much cannot see spending that kind of coin. I was a machinst for the past 38 years and used high dollar plasma cutters so I was a little worried on buying the Eastwood Plasma 40. I pulled the trigger 2 weeks ago and been using it on a restore of a 55 Pontiac Star Chief. I'm Very impressed with it right now should of bought one years ago cuts sheet metal and some 3/8s angle like the big brand names Good Job Eastwood

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice machine I recently purchased this machine and have used it 3 times. The thing is very simple to hook up and use. I am very pleased with the performance, I have cut 1/4" steel down to 18 gauge and it performed flawlessly. I am worried about consumable life but after cutting with it several times, I am not seeing any wear on the tip. I do wish it came with more consumables than 2. Quite pleased, hopefully this thing holds up well. Appears to be well made and much better torch than the Chinese models on eBay I was considering for slightly less money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy I bought this 2 years ago and its the most used piece of equipment in the shop right behind the eastwood MIG welder.... One hint, Since Eastwood no longer carries extended length tips and have never had fine point nozzles..... The Hypertherm Kaliburn SR-45i electrodes, nozzles and air diffusers will all fit the Eastwood Versacut 40. You can order them online or get them at most local welding supply shops.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nice, but.... We had this machine for a little over three years. It was used on frames and typical metal fabrication, usually with less than 1/4in steel material. It worked well...until one day it wouldn't. We changed consumables, with no result, it still didn't work. Then, we tried to get repair help with Eastwood. Except, there is no such thing. They have only consumables or very limited repair pars available, nothing in the form of circuit boards, a service center, available replacement parts...NOTHING. So, buyer beware, while this is a nice little machine when it works, if it quits on you, then you are on your own. In essence this product does not come with any kind of repair support. Eastwood will replace it under warranty, but only to the original purchaser, and with proof of purchase, even though no other firm has these products. Also, the item is not serialized by number. I had hoped that a product in this price range has some sort of repair solution behind it. But that is not the case.

Just a quick question. I bought one of these and it's working great! I have a moisture separator installed in my airlines.. This unit says it has an internal moisture separator. Does this mean I don't need mine on my shop lines?

Asked by: Rjam
These units are very sensitive to moisture. It would still be recommended to utilize the separator on your lines and treat the internal separator as your "last defense" or "just in case" method.

will my 7000 running watt generator run this guy no problem?

Asked by: wld18
It needs a 20 amp 120V or a 30 amp 240 breaker to run the machine. If you are running the compressor and the plasma cutter on that generator it most likely will not work. I use a 10000 watt surge, 8500 watt run generator for mine.

Just picked up the plasma cutter and setting it up. It is very easy. Can you please tell me what the tube with a ball is that is in the bag of consumables?

Asked by: Ralph61
This is used by the factory to test flow rate of the unit. You would not have a use for this item.

Do these Plasma Cutters have supplied air moisture limit? Is there a need or requirements to run any input air thru a desiccant filter? I hear Plasma Consumables are VERY sensitive to air that is not DRY. Anyone?

Asked by: dan0
The more you dry the air the better off you are. We don't have a PPM limit.

Is the air pressure internally regulated or will it need an external setup?

Asked by: JKHosick
You will want to regulate the incoming pressure to about 80 psi. The unit then from there has an internal regulator to get the perfect pressure while cutting.

About Eastwood Versa-Cut 40 Amp Plasma Cutter

This innovative, affordable, plasma cutter was designed and developed by Eastwood's own R&D staff, and tested in-house on the same type of real-life projects you'll use it for. It doesn't matter where you need to work, because this plasma cutter's voltage-sensing technology lets you use either a 110v or 220v outlet with our adapter cord.

What is "Plasma Cutting"? Plasma cutting utilizes a high-velocity jet of ionized gas (plasma) that conducts electricity from the torch of the plasma cutter to your metal workpiece. That directed plasma stream (about 30,000 degrees F) heats the workpiece, converting the metal to molten slag. That high-velocity stream literally blows the molten metal away, leaving clean, precisely cut metal.

**Due to the High Frequency start feature of this machine, we do not recommend using this machine on a CNC plasma table.**
