Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rust Encapsulator & Silver Agent I have applied a lot of the black matte encapsulator finish on an old truck frame without much if any surface prep & some white rust encapsulator on old shocks. I would say the paint is great & the applicator (me) needs replacement. Even at that I think it stopped the rust and now six months later I see no bleed through & I have been watching it on the white shocks. These shocks were ugly rusty and pitted & now they are bright white and look great at 10'. Sure makes for an easy improvement on rusted truck frames. I used Eastwood's wheel paint with more prep and it looks great. We'll see in time and with winter salt coming. Sorry pics bit blurry

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it says Used this on the bottom of my 1962 Cadillac Coupe Deville. Was leary of some of the reviews. Basically don't spray it on bare metal, don't use it in the cold, and be prepared for some of the cans to clog. Other than that, we pressure washed the bottom of the car and got everything clean. Then we sprayed with two coats of Rust Encapsulator and then two coats of Chassis Black from Eastwood. Some reviews said that if you didn't top coat it then the rust would come through in about a year so that's why we went with the Chassis Black top coat. Looks great. Went on great. A couple cans clogged up but I was expecting that. Sometimes just switching the nozzle with another fixed it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Stuff Is Fantastic My local body shop wanted nearly $1000 to replace my front bumper. Instead, I ordered the black rust encapsulator and planned to cover it with a bra. After some minimal sanding, I applied two coats and it looks fantastic! I have the bra, but I don't even need it. It matches my front grill, so you don't even notice it's not painted metallic grey as it was. I would not hesitate to use this on anything that rusts. I told all my friends I would want to be a distributor I believe in this stuff so much. I also told them I would help with their projects as it was easy and enjoyable to work with. It covered and and sealed like a dream. I will be buying again soon.

I have a 72 blazer, I had the body shop primer the body 2 years ago and there are small rust spots bleeding thru the primer now. Would this product work to spray directly over the rust spots to keep them from bleeding thru when it gets painted?

Asked by: Firefighter85
This product would not stop the rust through the existing primer. From what you are describing your best bet is to strip the vehicle back to bare metal, and then re prime.

I am going to use this on inside of a 64 Impala fender. Will I be able to apply a DTM Epoxy Primer over encapsulator? I will not be shooting any color over primer, but will be applying an undercoating.

Asked by: Jtown
If the end goal is an undercoating why not save yourself 2 steps and check out our Rubberized Rust Encapsulator. This product will still paint over the rust while giving you a rubberized finish.

What is the best products to use inside a 55 chevy truck door to treat and stop existing rust?

Asked by: Dcurt
Your best option would be to use the internal frame coating: http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-internal-frame-coating-14oz-aerosol.html. This product is designed for areas that you cant get to to do any prep work. It will suffocate any existing rust, stopping it from spreading any further as well as create ea protective barrier to prevent new rust from occurring.

I have two questions. For surface rust on previously painted automotive sheet metal, is the encapuslator or the converter the best product? What is the recommended time frame between the recommended product and applying an epoxy primer?

Asked by: mgfranz
light to moderate surface rust can certainly be taken care of with our Encapsulator. Let it dry for 24 hours prior to topcoating with Epoxy.

How well does the rattle can spray in the horizontal orientation? i.e. spraying the underside of a vehicle. Or should I be considering using a paint brush application?

Asked by: Husker Josh
Under a car a spray can can sputter if holding Horizontally. You are better brushing on with a foam brush at this point.

I forgot to shake the can and the black color had separated. I applied it and it went on clear. Only after did I realize it wasn't mixed. Do I need to reapply?

Asked by: SurferD
Yes, this will need to be removed and the area(s) will need to be resprayed with Encapsulator.

I am in the process of body work on a 1977 Datsun 620. I was wondering if I could paint the truck with your rust encapsulated and then use one base paint over it

Asked by: Killshoot5
This product is only intended to be spotted in if you are applying an entire base paint over the vehicle.

Rust Encapsulator can be applied with the Undercoating System, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the Heavy Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds & through rust to seal surface from contact with moisture & air, but cannot be painted over so is only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.

Work in a well ventilated area when applying this product. The use of a respirator like our Professional Respirator (34029) is recommended when applying this coating. Shake vigorously for 2 mins before spraying !!
