Eastwood Fast Etch with pump 32 oz is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 67.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Seems to work but bottle top leaks Seems to work. I spray it onto patches of pitted surface rust and it does seem to neutralize the rust as acid normally would. I don't know how it will do long-term under paint but I have faith that it will hold. Bottle top leaks like crazy every time I use it. A simple washer would solve this. Hasn't E seen enough complaints about this to do something about it? I wrote to cs but of course heard nothing back. I'm going to pour it into a container and brush it on from now on. So the bottom line is that it works but beware the leaky bottle, especially since this is acid based. Would have given it four stars otherwise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I purchased the 32oz bottle to etch my 68 Camaro prior to priming. Once I had stripped the car down to metal I used soap and water to removal all oils and contaminants. I wasn't worried about bear metal rusting because I applied fast etch right after. This product worked great!! It didn't take long for it to start working. I did the whole car at once to I had to work fast before the product dried when removing the excess. I used to run a trailer mfg company and we used to acid etch our trailers prior to painting and it has the same finish. I also had a very rusty floor pan and it did wonders with it. You can't even tell it was rusty. I will purchase again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Roll Cage Paint Preparation I love this product. If you've ever tried wire brushing surface rust from a multipoint cage you've learned quickly that the process is extremely time consuming and tedious. I figured I would try this product hoping it would save me at least a little time. I simply applied the product and let it sit and it removed every trace of rust around the heavy base plates and hard to reach areas where the diagonal bars adjoin to the main hoop. I do not build cars commercially, but I will always keep this product on hand now and in the future. I no longer need my blast cabinet from what I have seen thus far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eastwood Fast Etch with pump 32 oz This stuff is great! It really does take care of the rust quickly and leaves a seemingly rust-proof finish behind. My only concern is that it seems to stay around and, if I get it into seams or tight areas, It might not be so good. I really don't have anything to base that on though other than my instinct telling me "it's acid... bad for metal" but, whatever, the zinc coating is supposed to compensate, I guess. I followed it up with some acetone per the directions and my subsequent coats of seam-sealer and paint seemed to adhere well. I will say it is particularly nasty stuff. I had to wear my respirator and gloves. It seems to clean up easily with water so no worries there. It makes a fantastic decongestant, exfoliate, and has a zesty, lemony flavor. Highly recommended on all counts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from starts attacking rust instantly bought gallon of fast etch, put it in a spray bottle and sprayed it over rust on my 1967 mustang and it converts the rust to a darker color and in other areas to black. seals the rust. i used it on an area that had rust removed with evapo rust, then what was left was pits in the chrome where rust was, and i left it like that for awhile then when i received fast etch in the mail, i sprayed some on to the pits of the chrome and i can instantly see it working with small bubbles. i also sprayed it on bare sheet metal and it works good on keeping it from rusting. only bad thing is when sprayed, it smells strong and bad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Basically expensive Phosphoric Acid I like most of Eastwood's products but this product is basically Phosphoric Acid. You can purchase Phosphoric Acid Prep and Etch products much cheaper from your local hardware store. Sorry Eastwood!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Stuff Yet This is the easiest and the best rust remover / prevention product that I have used. Works on everything. Very economical too. I did the whole cahssis, axles, sprins, everything on my 79 CJ7 frame off rstro. Great Job Eastwood!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, but beware of spills Fast etch is expense, but it does remove heavy rust. The key to successful rust removal is time in contact with the liquid. I built wooden tanks lined with Fiberglas resin to soak parts. Sometimes for two days. Dry the parts, then wire brush them. Before painting get all of the phosphide film removed or paint won't bond well. Be careful with spills and drips. Place drop clothes, etc. under your work. This stuff is next to impossible to remove from floors if you let it dry very long. Eastwood Tech support suggested the use of acetone as a cleaning agent. It does work, but not without a lot of abrasive scrubbing.

Can I apply filler on top of Fast Etch?

Asked by: BVS1
Fast Etch leaves a protective coating behind to protect the metal from corrosion while it waits for primer/ paint. This coating needs to be removed with PRE:http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-pre-painting-prep.html before anything can be applied.

Will fast etch remove paint on a painted part. Example, Mustang shock towers that are painted flat black.

Asked by: Mitchell T
It isn't designed as a paint remover however it can damage paint.

I have a chassis that I had sand blasted and applied fast etch on it to remove the flash rust. I can't prime it right away. is it harmful to leave fast etch on it until I can prime it, or do I need to neutralize it right away with pre.

Asked by: 1Joshy H
Fast etch can be left on to prevent flash rusting.

can you use this on spots of exposed metal on an otherwise freshly epoxy primered car? i had some spots i sanded through in the dry garage but they flash rusted i guess while i left the project sit for a few months.

Asked by: damac
You would be better off just sanding the flash rust off with some sandpaper so the Fast Etch does not damage the primer.

I am stripping a TR6 to the metal and would like to use fast etch to remove some pitted rust.   Can I put an epoxy primer over the fast etch, or should I move directly to a 2K U primer.    The time frame between my stripping an priming may be several days

Asked by: TLDP
You can put epoxy on after fast etch as long as you first wipe the surface with Pre painting prep.

What is the black and sticky stuff on metal surface after using Fast Etch ? I used it on rust free cast steering knuckles, followed by acetone.

Asked by: Ducs
It sounds like the product may have reacted with some coating that was on the parts. I would recommend using more Fast etch to try and clean the surface prior to using Acetone.

I have a non-car question. Would fast etch be good to remove rust and protect the top of a cast iron table saw? Can you use wax on top of fast etch?

Asked by: CFBJ
Fast etch is a great product to use on any rusty metal project you are working on. If you want a clear to protect the bare metal we would recommend our Exo-Amour.
