Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eastwood Fast Etch with pump 32 oz This stuff is great! It really does take care of the rust quickly and leaves a seemingly rust-proof finish behind. My only concern is that it seems to stay around and, if I get it into seams or tight areas, It might not be so good. I really don't have anything to base that on though other than my instinct telling me "it's acid... bad for metal" but, whatever, the zinc coating is supposed to compensate, I guess. I followed it up with some acetone per the directions and my subsequent coats of seam-sealer and paint seemed to adhere well. I will say it is particularly nasty stuff. I had to wear my respirator and gloves. It seems to clean up easily with water so no worries there. It makes a fantastic decongestant, exfoliate, and has a zesty, lemony flavor. Highly recommended on all counts.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fast Etch Takes a while to work, very pricey, should have lower prices and multi buy deals. Does work though. Turns plastic white in color. Eats concrete.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Eastwood needs better bottle and nozzle, other wise good product The product is great and goes a long way! but my only complaint is the bottle and spray nozzle. The bottle comes shipped completely tapped shut over the cap. As soon as the tape is removed if you turn the bottle to its side, it drips out. So when I attach the nozzle same thing. You can't spray at any angle with out it dripping out, unless completely vertical.

Ijust started using the second bottle I ordered I think the next day and it is doing the job!!!! Caution: Damaging to paint and spark plug wires! Rated 4 out of 5 by from metal etcher This is a fast and easy product also does do the job. It etched the bare metal very well ..I let it dry over night and you could tell by feel it was there doing its job,,but beware,,it is very damaging to any painted surface !!! It took the powder coating off of my K member.. The bottle leaked when sprayed and got all over me and parts I wasn't trying to coat ..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eastwood Fast Etch This is my first time using this product and it works! I live 700 meters from the beach in Massachusetts…in the winters they use salt or chemicals on the roads that cause your vehicle to rust. I used the product and the rust disappeared!!! WOW…so I've already ordered another bottle! Thanks Eastwood for making a superior product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from product works as advertised I sprayed it on the underside of my van after scraping off the loose paint and scale. I wasn't able to return for a week. I sprayed on a soap/water solution and several minutes later power washed it off. I will know results in a year or two, but pretty confident it stopped the rust. Topped off with epoxy primer and undercoat.

I have a 1965 Ford pickup cab that has pockets at the back of the cab I have about 1/2" clearance to access from inside. Would Fast Etch be good to spray down into there to stop the rust from coming back even though I wouldn't be able to wipe off?

Asked by: grimnotions
The fast etch will not work well in that situation. Your best bet with an area like that will be to use our rust encapsulator with 24" nozzle to get down inside and lock the rust in and encapsulate it. http://www.eastwood.com/ew-rust-encapsulator-w-ext-nozzle-black.html

After using this can I just clean the surface with a wax/grease remover like the rest of the paint on the car prior to priming? Or do I need a specific product?

Asked by: Cody99999
Wax and grease remover is exactly what is needed before painting a surface treated with this product. You can prep it right along with the other panels.

Will fast etch work on the floor pans of the truck i am restoring? i grinded the rust down to get the scaly rust off. Also wondering if it will work on my chassis since it just has typical surface rust or if there would be a better product to use for this

Asked by: Ranger92
Fast etch is a product that will remove oxidation and surface rust and leave a zinc coating on the surface of the clean metal afterwards. If you wanted more of a permanent product i would recommend using rust encpasulator instead and you can top coat it afterwards if wanted.

I am rebuilding a Pontiac 400 and using the original exhaust manifolds. They look rusty but are still in good shape. I would like to clean them up and paint them silver. What would be the best product/process?

Asked by: AlanB
For most of all manifold coatings you will need to remove them and have the bead blasted

Aloha, I have 2 dime-sized rust spot on the roof of my p/u truck. Can I use Fast Etch or would Rust Encapsulator be a better product? I've already used Rust Oleum Rust Reformer 3 months ago and rust has returned. Thanks

Asked by: DCHi
Rust Encapsulator would be better suited to that kind of repair. Just prep the rusted spot and the area around it by sanding or spot blasting with abrasive media, spray the Rust Encapsulator, and then top coat as needed.

If I use the zinc phosphate on bolts can I just clear coat them or do I need to paint them?  If I can clear coat do I need to treat with the prep solution.  I thought the zinc phosphate was to add a layer of rust protection.  Why do you remove it if paint

Asked by: Surewood
You will have to clean them off with acetone, before placing a clear coat over top of the bolts. The reason is because the zinc phosphate coating that is left behind will make it hard for the clear coat to stick to. Clear coat recommended for bolts would be diamond clear for bare metal item number 10200.

I stripped some metal back to bare metal with the DA but have some light rust still in the pitted areas. If I have already applied and sanded some body filler will it damage it or casue it to lift?

Asked by: Johnny Popper
Yes, it could potentially damage body filler that's already applied, the Fast Etch should not be used in that case. I'd suggest using Rust Encapsulator over the light rust that you have near your body filler.
