Rated 3 out of 5 by from Of Limited Use! I used the Rust Converter on a severely rusted trailer hitch and it worked perfectly. I also used it on a lightly-rusted exhaust pipe off a minibike and it failed miserably; leaving a sticky surface that never hardened. After speaking with an Eastwood rep, it turns out that the Rust Converter only works only works on HEAVILY rusted metal. I guess that a thin layer of surface rust isn't enough to complete the chemical reaction. Also, it turns out that Rust Converter shouldn't be used on metal that will become hot as it will burn off. It would be nice if they provided this information on the website so people don't waste their money on inappropriate products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Outstanding product I bought one spray can to test an area on a rusty bale wagon I bought at a farm auction. Performance was outstanding although coverage was lighter than I expected. I might try it again in the in the bottle and apply it with a brush to see if the product goes any further. So far this is the best rust converter product I have used.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well I use a lot of rust converters. I rebuild old firebird basket cases. This one worked very well. I use this after sandblasting very rusted parts to stop the rust from rea curing then spray a good epoxy primer over it . But you must watch you air temp for it to cure . I have had no problems with flaking . And you have to put it on thick and let dry for 48 hours before painting. Works good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works some of the time As another person noted, this product doesn't dry very well on anything other than a rusty surface. I sprayed it on the under carriage of a truck that had spots of rust on a painted surface. The rust converter that was on the paint never dried. Also don't use this product when rain is expected within 24 hours of application. I did and the results were unsatisfactory.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rust Converter It worked as advertised on one coat, but the second coat is on it's 3rd day and still is tacky to the touch. Don't think it will ever dry at this point, especially since I've had a fan blowing on the frame rail for 36 hours with little change. I'm going to try acetone to remove it and start all over. Mediocre result so far.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rust Converter So-So The first coat went on OK, but the second coat is on it's 3rd day and it's still tacky to the touch. I've had a fan blowing on it for the past 36 hours with no appreciable change. I may use acetone to try and remove it and either start all over or find something different to use as a rust inhibitor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from really? Used as per instructions. Prepped the area as instructed. Let dry per instructions, and it just fell off when touched as a dry powder. Some stayed but about 50% fell away. Wiped with a dry paper towel to remove the loose rust converter. Not too happy especially with the price point of this stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for heavy frame rust Used this in areas of heavy rust; the spray pattern was great nice and wide. Did a good job turning rust. In lighter areas where I could sand the rust it was not as effectively. However I always follow up with the rust encapsolater to address all rust.

Can I spray this onto rust bubble on my car without grinding or sanding first?

Asked by: Rogerthat
No, the Rust Converter will not help with bubbling rust by itself. If you have rust bubbling off of a panel, you need to prep the surface first by grinding, sanding, or at least using a wire brush. Once you've knocked off all of the loose rust, you'll be able to use our Rust Encapsulator. Rust Converter should only be used on areas of very heavy rust, and not near any bare metal or painted surfaces. It's ideal for a completely rusted chassis for example.
