About Underhood Black Quart Semi-Gloss
Underhood Black is the correct shade of black underhood lacquer paint, having just the right 10-20% semi-gloss finish most car manufacturers use for engine-compartment paint on radiator supports, inner fender walls, lug wrenches, jack bases, underhood brackets and other parts. Black underhood paints from typical hardware stores are either too thick, too glossy, or simply don't match.
Just clean, degrease, and prepare the parts well (use our Self-Etching Primers), then spray-on this engine-compartment paint for a professional, factory-like, underhood paint finish. Acrylic lacquer withstands up to 250 degrees F and goes on thin for a satin-smooth finish that doesn’t hide surface details. Do not use with enamel primers. One quart can covers 48 square feet (also available as an aerosol; see "Accessories" tab).

(Q) Hot do I apply this underhood paint?
(A) Surface must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, grease and oil. For maximum protection, first prime with a self-etching primer or epoxy primer before top-coating. For best results, use when can is between 70 and 90 degrees F. This engine-compartment paint may be used over self-etching primer or Rust Encapsulator.
