Eastwood MIG Welder 175 Amp with Spool Gun is rated 4.541 out of 5 by 122.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value I've had the MIG 175 for a little over a year and it worked flawlessly until the plastic housing containing torch/gas line connection broke. I was bummed when I read review by Jim53 claiming customer service didn't respond to the same problem. Fortunately that was not the case for me - customer service instantly mailed the part (complete drive unit, wire feed motor and all) to me and I was back up and running within 3 days. I would recommend the unit, but be very careful about putting any strain on the torch connection as this is cheap plastic - they should improve the design. Overall it's a great welder for the money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It's not worth it Well all I got to say is go put your money into a well known brand named welder and you will be very happy with it knowing that it will always work unlike this one I got but retuned it for my money back because I went through 3 of these welder with in less than a year. Reason why is the gas selonoid will not work like how its really suppose to. Besides when you get the package it says on the side something like manufacture in CHINA. So yeah it China made quality stuff. Well learn a lesson for me and how it willfor some of you guy thinking about getting this welder. Go spend that extra money on a miller or linclon and you will be one happy person. Got me a linclon welder coming in at airgas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value I got my Eastwood MIG 175 Welder yesterday and couldn't wait to get it setup. I went right to town and picked up a tank of Argon, set up the spool gun and welded aluminum for the first time. After 5 minutes of practice on some scrap, we rolled our Aluma trailer into the shop for some repairs. 2 years ago I took this trailer to a pro weld shop to have some cracks repaired - they lasted 3 days before they cracked again. If I may say so our welds look a whole lot better than those of the weld shop. We are very impressed with this welder!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good machine great price I'm very pleased with this setup, the capacity for the price is awesome. I used the spool gun basically first thing. It doesn't show it in the pictures or under description but my spool gun had a 4" spool of 4043 wire already in it. The settings for the aluminum welding seem about right which is surprisingly fast metal deposition. The only gripe I have is the included "welding mask". Eastwood shouldn't even bother, just add in the specifics that the purchaser will need to purchase a proper welding helmet before use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good welder when working but had a few issues Great welder if I could depend on it. I've had three separate issues all replaced under warranty. First issue was the feed motor would sometims not work and sounded like a relay tripping internally. Entire welder replaced. Second issue:The nipple on the plastic housing that attaches internally to shielding gas broke. Part was replaced. Third issue: the plastic housing holding the feeder hose broke causing shielding gas to escape. Unit being replaced again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from MIG 175, Great product Recently purchased a MIG 175 welder for a car fabrication project. Easy to set up (works better with shield gas instead of flux core wire) with a little practice I could produce a good quality weld. A nice feature of this welder is the adjustability of the weld voltage and wire speed. You can "fine tune" the welder to produce a good weld with little difficulty. Overall the MIG 175 is a good bang for your buck.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The MIG welder is OK but the Customer Service is Outstanding. This welder had to be returned after only 1 hr of use, however the company replaced the unit within three days. The customer service representative was very helpful. The replacement had a gas leak, once reported the service department sent repair parts and after I installed them it fixed the leak. The welder is finally working to my expectations. The MIG welder is OK and the Customer Service is Outstanding.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from eastwood mig welder 175 welder looked great. got ready and tried to weld and was very unhappy because welder would not weld correct. removed cover and found the main wire to cond. nut had never been tightened and was just making connection part time . this was after waiting a week longer receiving the order than was told. the location of the gas hose and power cord has a lot to be desired because they come out the back right where the bottle is and hits the bottle if you don't space it forward about 2" with the new cart I purchased with the welder

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Eastwood 175 Mig welder I purchased this unit on Ebay thru Eastwood because of the Holiday Deal and after setting it up and getting my gas bottles I must say this welder is GREAT!. I had a 90amp mig welder that Ive used for small projects and decided to get rid if it and get into the bigger stuff. Over the weekend I fabricated a dry-sweep roller stand using the 175 and didn't once blow thru the 14ga steel of the frame or the 20ga steel of the wheels!!!. This welder made some nice spot welds that I haven't been able to do with my previous welder. I am very happy with my purchase and don't think a $1500.00 Miller 211 could've done a better job. So for those that are interested in working in your garage and need a mig that can handle anything you have in it, this Welder is for YOU!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Efficient, Reliable and Portable This is a great welder! The compact design makes the welder an asset for off site work provided the power supply is available. It does the job of much more bulkier and heavier welders. The efficiency is superb, excellent penetration with the ability to perform a full range of welding styles on various type metals with little or no stand-by. The duty cycle allows for pretty much continuous welding with little effort for most automotive applications. The added ability to handle aluminum is an included feature not available (except at an added cost) with other machines.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No regrets I am a rookie welder and have been using a very seasoned Linde MIG welder on my '59 Chevy truck project. Amazing what late model MIG technology can produce for the price. Could not justify spending 2 to 3 times the cost to buy a brand name welder so, after reading the reviews, decided on the 175. Would recommend to anyone. The only issue I have had with the unit is that the door comes off the hinges every time I open it. Called Eastwood's customer support and they immediately emailed me back and even called me. A new set of hinges is being Fed Ex'd to me now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value... Bought the MIG 175 and Versacut 40 package and you really can't be this package for the price. I've been taxing the MIG 175 with a roll cage I'm installing in my race car and it is handling the task with ease. The plasma cutter has also been used a lot but not quite as much as the welder. But, every time I ask for it to cut, it does its job. No issues...yet. The only cons I'veI noticed were that one of the contacts for the trigger connection had to be pulled out a little bit as it had fallen back due to being loose and the air regulator is a little chinsy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent welder I've had my welder for 6 months now and I'm very pleased with it. Some people complain about lousy fitment of the front plastic and some other small things. They may be right about that, but I'm not taking my welder to shows. This thing performs flawlessly. You may want to buy a pack of Lincoln tips though. Originals melted easily. I haven't had any problems since I put in the Lincoln tip. What an improvement over my old MIG. I highly recommend this welder for anyone looking for an affordable welder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don"t wait, buy now, you'll be happy. I waited to write this until after I had the unit a couple of months. I do hobby welding and had borrowed a friends Lincoln for much longer than I should have because I fell in love with that unit. After reading these reviews I decided to purchase the Eastwood 175. I'm glad I did because this unit welds as good as a Lincoln or Miller unit and I couldn't be happier. 2 weeks before I bought this one my buddy purchased the Miller AS180 with Spool Gun and gave twice what I paid for the Eastwood, which welds just as good. I'll be buying more Eastwood products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well built true value I put a lot of faith in Eastwood. I tell people Eastwood very seldom brings a product to market without the bugs being worked out. I am well pleased with the unit itself. My only negatives are niggling little things. Ithink the manual needs to be rewritten. When I compare it to the manual for the Lincoln that it replaced it is barely adequate. I can envision someone who had little or no experience with MIG welders getting lost. The only other complaint I would have is why even bother including such s cheap shield I can't imagine anyone trying to use it,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This works better than... First off, I want to compliment the excellent customer service. I decided to call rather than place my order online. This was on Thursday afternoon, (pacific daylight saving time), I received my welder, sometime during the day, on the following Monday! The delivery company hid it on my front porch. We have 2 professional welding contractors at my company. They took the time to take it out of the box and set it up. They were totally blown away as to how well the 175 works. I have never used a wire feed mig welder myself until today. This machine even makes me look like I know what I'm doing! They messed with the settings and were able to perform a T-joint with 1/2 mild steel using the .030" wire. I was able to do the same with 3/8 steel, which I received compliments from the guys. WOW! This comes with everything you need except the 75/25 inert gas, helmet, gloves, mig pliers, and suggestions for projects...you are on you own for the last one. Have fun!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Makes good welds What matters is the welder makes good welds. It's easy to use, and so far it has been reliable. The downside is the cart is flimsy and poorly designed. If I could go back I would buy the welder alone and then use it to build a good cart. The welder has an overall feel of low quality. Like the rubber isn't as strong/thick, some other parts just aren't up to par with the miller/lincoln welders. But I have used miller and lincoln welders and it is just as easy to use and makes just as good or better welds. For the price it is UNBEATABLE. Trust me I did a lot of research. The spool gun has the same cheap feel but it works great for fixing my aluminum sprinkler pipe and I have had no problems so far (it takes some practice to weld aluminum though). Great overall I would and have recommended to others and they also agree. Gets fairly heavy use on a 500 acre farm and no real problems so far after two years. The price with spool gun is amazing. It uses same disposable parts as lincoln mig welder I believe (they have the parts at local hardware stores.) I never write reviews but thought I would cause this was a great buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value This welder works as advertised; maybe better. I have welded 1/4" aluminum with great penetration. Voltage & speed controls that are infinitely variable are important features. I did have an issue with the spool gun; the drive ran backwards, that is the reason it did not get all 5 stars. A phone call to tech support gave me the option to replace the unit or fix it myself with there help. It was an easy fix and when I opened the case I was very impressed at how well this was put together. I wish it were made in the US but they would never be able to sell it at this price if it was.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Questions Eastwood has been a great company to work with and I purchased the mig 175 and the plasma cutter. This review is for the Mig 175 and from day one I had the gas continue to exit the gun for a little over 1 second after releasing the trigger. I called customer service and they told me this was to cool the metal. Sounded reasonable but after more reviews and watching the you tube video I don't see there or anyone else having this issue. I want to control my welds by spot welding in quick burst but the gas would continue to run. So I have a email to customer support to see if there is something wrong with my machine or if this is a item they have. My father has a Hobart Mig and his gas shuts off as soon as you release the trigger and I'd except this to do the same. I am hoping they will find me a remedy. If this gas will shut off I'd give them high stars but after burning through a tank of argon I'm looking to keep as much gas for welding in the tank as possible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Im on my second one and it still isnt right. I bought this unit to use for my small business, i only used my first one about 2 or 3 hours total and the gas solenoid quit working on it, it was stuck open all the time. They replaced it and i was pretty much down for 2 weeks and had to pass up several jobs, but i was pleased that they at least replaced it with no questions asked. I recieved my new machine and ran a few passes to make sure it worked properly, and it did. I take it to a job and now i have the opposite problem, the gas solenoid wont open.. I thought maybe it was the regulator but i put it on my tig (which is the eastwood acdc tif, THAT one os well worth the money.) and it is working fIne. So the problem is with the machine. I had to drop the job and embarass myself as well as lose a client because of them. I am going to get my money back, this is ridiculous.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Welder So first thing is I ordered as a kit with the mig 175 and welder cart it was put on back order. I was needing for project with a time frame so that was kind of a downer. I called customer service and they went on to be very helpful. We figured out that it was back ordered because they didn't have the cart. They canceled the original order and we reordered at the same price. I got welder in time to finish project and the back ordered cart showed up the day after the welder. Customer service was great. As for the welder it did take some tuning and practice but in about an hour I had it running and welding like a champ! The only thing that I would say that is the power cord is just a bit short. I would buy the extentsion cord but overall very happy with purchase. I haven't used the spool gun yet but I will update review when I have a chance to play with it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I so wish it worked! I just sent my 3rd machine back. I couldn't find this level of machine anywhere for this price range. But 3 out of 3 didn't work. Something with not letting the gas through. I even prefer the looks of this unit, but i need to have one with the gas option. One note, i noticed that the ground clamp was of better grade than anyof the other unit anywhere close to this price range. seemed to be a great buit and optioned unit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gas selonoid is alway bad on this 175 I bought this welder mig 175 about 6 months ago and hardly got the time to really use it with the argon gas, but any ways this product sucks! Don't spend your money on this junk. I have had problem about the gas solenoid and I just received my new replacement package today and same exact thing but only a bit different from my first one! Just spend the extra hundred for a Miller or Lincoln and you will be satisfied even tho it doesn't have the spool gun to weld aluminum.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from out of box, first impression Fist of all the glass lens with the cheep welding shield was broken upon unpacking. Next the side cover doesn't latch. The front was not bent to 90 degrees. Third the electrical cable connector for the gun is missmolded for the strain relief. Looks like a molded mess on the end. haven't welded with it yet, but look forward to trying it out. I also pursed a plasma cutter and have the same problem with the strain relief.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from finally got to use the MIG 175 the unit worked great . the infinitely adjustable heat settings make it easy to fine tune the weld . I assembled the cart as instructed but before I put the unit on the shelf , while I was threading the wire thru the whip I took a picture of the chart with my digital camera and made an 8x10 of it and put it in a zip lock bag. the only inconvenience is when I have to change wire or major settings . weld quality is on par with the suitcase millers we used at the local shipyard I worked at before I retired . I would recomend this unit to anyone .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great products awesome service I bought the mig 175 and plasma 60. I have a few little issues with both. Nothing major. I called tech line and talked to the guys and told them my issues. Without trying to waste much time trouble shooting unnecessary things and pinching penny's or me having to send things back and wait for what they found the problems to be and then send replacements.. They sent out a brand new spool gun and cutter torch assembly right away at no cost and did not want the old ones back I got them in 2 days! As far as performance there is nothing that comes close for the price and frankly for two or three times the money they still would be hard to beat. They weld as well if not better than any,Miller,Hobart or Lincons I have used, I am very impressed with the spool gun and aluminum welding capability's! They also will weld heavier capability than what they are rated for and weld thin metal great too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MIG 175 Welder with spool gun. Just picked up the 175, great little unit. Simple to use. I'm new to welding, but the 175 has welded some 3/16" steel plate for me pretty easily. I'm looking to do some 1/4" Aluminum in the near future. Check out my YouTube video, as you can contact me through there to give me some beginner tips, or any commets or concerns you may have. I will be posting update videos of the spool gun, and projects, so keep checking back. I do need to pick up a couple bottles of gas, but the unit has been up to any job I've thrown at it for the time being.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Neat This welder is my first welder as well as my first attempt at welding. I set this up and read the recommended settings and laid my first tack welds. I was very happy not only because the machine works but because the metal stuck! This machine even convinced my wife she could weld so she tried it too. Yes, naturally hers looked better than mine (She might read this). Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and the quality, I am going to buy the plasma cutter as well. Hopefully I can be as happy with that as I am with this welder.

Why do you put a 50amp male cord cap on this unit, if it only requires a 30 amp circuit? It seems confusing for a homeowner for wiring.

Asked by: Gammz
The plug should never be the weakest link in a circuit, it should always be the breaker, the plug is always rated higher for safety. This unit uses a 6-50 NEMA plug and receptacle just like any other 220V welder no matter who makes it.

Will the welder run fine with out damage if ac powered off a older welder/generator?

The welder will work fine as long as the generator is making enough amps, with with correct breakers on it to keep up with the specs of the unit.

Can this lay consistent beads on thin auto metal? I see the more expensive units go down to 25 amps.

Asked by: SloMX5
The MIG 175 can easily be used on automotive sheet metal, but there would never be a situation where you would run a consistent bead on sheet metal. Even at low amperage, MIG welding does not offer enough control over heat in order to avoid warpage of the thin panels.
