About Gas Tank Sealer Kit For Cars
A clean supply of fuel is critical to the performance of any vehicle. Hard starting, stumbling under load, and sluggish response may be symptoms of a car's dirty fuel system. The best way to ensure that the fuel is clean is to be certain that the fuel tank is free of rust. See the "FAQs" tab for additional "how-to" information.
Not for use in tanks containing Nitro Methane or Aniline oils.
This kit is for restoring one metal tank up to 20 gallons. Includes 1-pint Rust Remover, 7-oz. Metal Wash, 2 pints of Sealer, and instructions. You will need to purchase Muriatic Acid (dilute 20:1) and Acetone from your local hardware store.
(Q) How do I use this kit?
(A) First you'll use the Metal Wash to remove any fuel varnish in the tank, then use muriatic acid (diluted 20:1; available at your local hardware store) to etch into the metal and rust. Rinse with water, then pour Fast Etch inside to coat all surfaces. Pour out the excess Fast Etch, then pour in Acetone (available from your local hardware store) to coat interior. After pouring excess Acetone out, pour in Gas Tank Sealer to coat all surfaces. Finally, drain-off excess and allow to dry. (Additional sealer can be applied if the coating hasn't been exposed to fuel.)
(Q) Does it matter what kind of fuel will be used in the tank?
(A) The sealer resists fuel additives and is compatible with both gas and diesel fuels. Your newly reconditioned tank will resist rust and corrosion build-up, ensuring years of reliable service.
(Q) What if I have to remove old sealer?
(A) Should the need arise to remove old sealer, pour in a gallon or more of Acetone. It may take up to 2 days for the Acetone to completely dissolve the old sealer.
(Q) Does this kit work on an aluminum or fiberglass tank?
(A) Omit the Muriatic Acid step if using this kit in an aluminum tank. If you wish to use this kit in a fiberglass tank, test for compatibility by exposing an inconspicuous area to Acetone to test for softening. If no excessive softening occurs, follow label instructions, but omit Muriatic Acid and Rust Remover steps.

Work in a well-ventilated area. Leave at least one opening uncapped when not actually tumbling the tank.

Eastwood simply doesn't supply enough product to treat a car tank. Similar products for motorcycle tanks worked pretty good for me, but they came with just as much stuff as this car tank kit (except they doubled the liner). With the amount of rust left in the tank I can't apply the liner... anyone want to buy two bottles of liner? The bigger issue is EW doesn't respond to voice, email or website inquiries. Maybe they should change the tag line to Do The Job Half Right.Price Value Quality -

time will tell if it adheres well. First coat was kinda spotty, awkward 50 gal slip tank. I'd recommend saving the drained epoxy in a sealed container and let first coat cure over night. Then pour the epoxy back in and give it a second coat. My second coat looked very good.Quality Price Value -

I bought this kit for my ’66 MGB. This spring when I fired it up after the winter hibernation I discovered that the gas was contaminated and contained various particles. I suspect that the great ethanol enhanced gas we have to use here in Maryland helped contribute to the problem. I pulled the tank and discovered quite a bit of rust and other contaminants. The tank (a replacement )was not that old so I thought the tank sealing kit would be the way to help correct the problem. I obtained the kit and purchased the recommend extras (acetone and muric acid) locally. The instructions were clear and I had no problem with the installation. Instead of using a flow of air from an air compressor to flush the fumes from the tank as suggested, I used my wife’s hair dryer (don’t tell her!) on the cool air setting to flush the fumes with the tank ourside in fresh air.. The nozzle of the hair dryer fit perfectly in the gas gauge sender opening. I let this run for several hours over the course of two days and it worked just fine. Based on my experience and other heard stories about the effect of the ethanol enhanced gasoline, I recommend that one consider using this kit on either old or new metal gas tanks to help prevent potential tank damage from the ethanol enhanced gas.Price Value Quality -

Many of you classic Benz owners have fuel delivery problems. Most people replace everything else and exclude doing the tank. The tank is the FIRST thing you should do as after 30 years the tanks in these cars rust up internally. I got a 1/2 gallon of rusty sludge out of my tank and thought it would be too far gone to save but it had no holes and decided to try this tank sealer. It takes a while to do each step right but the results are very good. A new tank is $850 shipped for my car...I spent $50 on the kit and another $30 on the actetone and muratic acid. I am very happy with the results. Follow the instructions and it will restore your tank to like new condition inside. Anybody that owns a classic 1980 Benz or older NEEDS this product. While I was at it I replaced the fuel pump and filter and hope to not have any more fuel delivery problems for years to come. Luckily my injectors weren't clogged thanks to the filter ;-) It would be nice if Eastwood would make an injector cleaning device for the home garage mechanic....Price Value Quality -

I had good results with the kit, but my tank is not 100%. I have a 83 Camaro tank and it has a bunch of baffles inside of it. I had to do the muriatic acid step twice and I still couldn't get all of the rust out of the inside of the tank. The coating was also difficult to get on everything and I might not have gotten everything due to the baffles. In the end, I am completly happy, the kit was ont $50 plus another $15 for a acetone and muriatic acid. A new tank for my car is over $200 and has known fitment issues. The parts I could see looked great and the old gas smell was gone. The coating will also be a plus due to the new ethanol blended fuels.Value Quality Price -

This was a great product. I purchased it to treat my tank since, after welding in a sump I never sealed the tank. The fuel would go stail fast. This product worked very well. Keep in mind though that you will also need to purchase Muriatic acid, and acetone to complete the steps to clean the tank. Follow the steps exactly and you will have a brand new looking tank. Also, set aside a few hours since it has you rotate the tank every 5-10 min in every step.Value Quality Price -

This stuff is great, Coated my tank perfectly, follow the steps exactly and your tank will look brand new inside. Keep in mind when buying this product that you will need to buy muriatic acid, and acetone to treat the tank, and set aside a few hours to do it. The instructions call for the tank to be rotated in 5-10 min intervals on all sides, for allmost every step.Value Quality Price -

Just finished cleaning and sealing my 31Price Value Quality
Desoto gas tank. The inside was full of varnish, fuel deposits and some rust which was getting in my fuel line. Your product cleaned up the inside like new and the sealant coated it like a fresh coat of white paint.
Took about 5 hours start to finish. Well worth the price and effort vs. chasing down and buying a new tank .
