Stop rust in its tracks! Our Rust Encapsulator has been reformulated with TWICE the corrosion resistance!
You thought it was good before...wait ’til you try this Rust Encapsulator! It seals and stops rust and corrosion from spreading, but it performs even better than our original formula. Tested against well-known brands, the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in sunlight resistance, preventing rust creep, and overall durability.
- Twice the corrosion resistance of our original formula for greater durability (tested to 500 hours in a salt-spray chamber)
- Epoxy-fortified for better adhesion and topcoat compatibility
- Penetrates deeper to prevent rust from spreading or forming, even in hard-to-reach areas
- Cures faster, and the low-VOC formula is acceptable in California
- 15-oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft.
- As seen on "My Classic Car" TV show

About Rust Encapsulator Black 15 oz.aerosol
Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has been tested by an independent lab to be one of the most effective rust-preventive products yet. Rust Encapsulator is a great primer for floor pans and other underbody parts. It fills tiny pin-holes and surface irregularities, and is compatible with lacquer, enamel and urethane topcoats (including Eastwood Chassis Black). For the absolute ultimate rust remedy, first brush or spray-on Eastwood Rust Converter, then prime with Rust Encapsulator. One 15-oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft., and contains no isocyanates. Heat-resistant up to 400 degrees F. Made in the USA.

Use a wire brush to remove loose rust, scale and paint, and remove dust, grease and oil deposits. Feather surrounding paint with 220-grit sandpaper. Shake can for at least 2 minutes once the mixing ball starts to rattle. Hold the Rust Encapsulator can 10-12" above surface as you spray. A single coat dries to the touch in 20 minutes, and is thoroughly dry in 3-4 hours at 68 degrees F. For greater durability, a second coat can be applied 1 hour after the first. Allow 6-8 hours after the last coat before applying topcoat. Use over or under body fillers.
(Q) Can Rust Encapsulator be applied with the Undercoating System?
(A) Technically, yes, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the Heavy-Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds and through rust to seal surfaces from contact with moisture and air, but cannot be painted over, so it's only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.

Work in a well-ventilated area when applying this product. The use of a respirator is recommended. Shake vigorously for 2 minutes before spraying.
In places where little or no surface prep can be done, our Heavy-Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP) is actually a better choice for applying into blind areas such as box sections. Buy 3 or more quart cans and save!

I used Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator aerosol with the long nozzle to coat the inside on my 65 Mustang cowling, and the hard-to-reach areas of my trunk. Love the way the brass nozzle on the 24" extension sprays...does a great job. You can clean-up this nozzle assy with thinner and reuse so buy one of those and the rest with the reg spray nozzle...save a few bucks. Bought a quart of the brush-on to use on the accessable areas of my floor pans. Using Eastwoods brush-on Seam Sealer after the RE...hoping the car lasts another 48 years.Price Value Quality -

The product went on easy enough and looks good. Based on the reviews I hope it will keep the rust away under my body work. The coverage isn't what I expected so my recommendation is to buy more than you think you will need.Price Value Quality -

Once it's on the metal it's as great as always. Unfortunately had a lot of trouble getting it out of the can with consistency in 92 degree weather and high humidity.Price Value Quality
When I thought I would be stopping for any appreciable amount of time, I turned the can upside down and sprayed clear, but the aerosol delivery was consistently progressively clogging even when using it constantly. Had to clear the nozzle with a needle and pick several times to get my full can's worth and this was all used on the same day.
I will continue to use it, however, I hope this issue will be resolved as it otherwise a great project. -
Great product, but Aerosol less great!

Love the product performance if you can get it out of the can.Price Value Quality
Opened the can the first time and started using it in 92 degree, high humidity weather. The can started clogging after just a few minutes of consistent use. It kept clogging and delivering inconsistent coverage as it would clog progressively.
When I knew I was going to be stopping for awhile, turned can upside down and sprayed the nozzle clear. Still had problems clogging when I resumed use.
Will still use in the future, however, I hope they can resolve these issues to make this an even more incredible product! -

I have used this product primarily to refinish some steel wheels for my Alfa bought off Craigslist. The inners and lips were rusty, so a little brushing and a few coats, and voila, they look good. Also have used to cover some dings on a new exhaust pipe for my Alfa, pieces of my gas grill (didn't survive the heat, my bad), and a spot on the Alfa fender under an antenna trim piece. Next will be the underside of the F-150...I may need more cansPrice Value Quality -

I just bought a used SUV that had been subjected to some harsh winters with some light rust spots in places on its independent suspension elements. I brushed off the loose rust and sprayed on the flat black encapsulator. It adheres well, dries quickly, and looks good. Drying time is minimal, especially in my low humidity environment. I can recommend the flat silver encapsulant too, which I also used in places. Eastwood's Rubberized Undercoating, which I have used in places, is a great product also. Based on my experience, I prefer the encapsulant treatment to a "rust convertor" that I tried from another company.Price Value Quality
