    Details

Stop rust in its tracks! Our Rust Encapsulator has been reformulated with TWICE the corrosion resistance! You thought it was good before...wait ’til you try this great anti-rust spray, the Rust Encapsulator! It seals and stops rust and corrosion from spreading, but it performs even better than our original formula. Tested against well-known brands, the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in sunlight resistance, preventing rust creep, and overall durability.
    • Twice the corrosion resistance of our original formula for greater durability (tested to 500 hours in a salt-spray chamber)
    • Epoxy-fortified for better adhesion and topcoat compatibility
    • Penetrates deeper to prevent rust from spreading or forming, even in hard-to-reach areas
    • Cures faster, and the low-VOC formula is acceptable in California
    • 15-oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft.
    • As seen on "My Classic Car" TV show

    FAQ’s

Rust Encapsulator can be applied with the Undercoating System, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the Heavy Duty Anti-Rust (16017 ZP). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds & through rust to seal surface from contact with moisture & air, but cannot be painted over so is only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.

    Safety

Work in a well ventilated area when applying this product. The use of a respirator like our Professional Respirator (34029) is recommended when applying this coating. Shake vigorously for 2 mins before spraying !!

Great on Surface rust and Bare Metal! (Posted on 5/28/13)

Poorly advertised factoid: This Rust Encapsulator is great on surface rust AS WELL AS BARE METAL (as documented on Eastwood’s video, however not in the written info).
I learned the hard way that rust CONVERTER is only good for metal WITH rust and will actually cause corrosion if used on bare clean metal (says it right on the can from local autostore). I’m sure a chemist could tell us exactly why but basically the RUST CONVERTER needs to react with the iron oxide to chemically transform to a primer. Also Converter is water based whereas Encapsulator is solvent based. Hope that saves a few folks the re work I had to do.
I’m not interested in reviews of Encapsulators, one week results or how pretty it looks. Providing long term protection from moisture and oxygen as well as durability from chipping are the most important variables. So far I have read a few long term reviews that were all positive. Definitely, planning write a follow up review after a few years.
Bottom line: so far so good. Really like the product. Good coverage, looks nice as well.
    Three “take aways”
1.) Protects clean metal as well areas with surface corrosion
2.) Does not require a top coat (since it seals as well)
    3.) UV resistant (unlike Por-15)
Finally, this seems like the “go to” product if you have an area containing both bare metal and rusty metal.
After removing all accessible rust and treating with Rust encapsulator I used Extreme chassis black on top (although not required). Finally, Eastwood Anti-rust on top. Love the anti-rust, this stuff seeps into the metal like a solvent the leaves an oily/waxy finish that is pretty much tack free after a week or so. Pore some water on it and you see it run away like water a car with two coats of wax, a bit pricey though.

I used the converter the way it describes with 2 coats and 2 coats of Rust Ecapsulator and then top coat of paint the rust can through the top coat of paint in 1 week lost 8 hours on a job and got paid nothing only to tell the customer how sorry I was that the product is junk, the job is free and I waisted $150 on this poor excuss for a product.
I would never use it on anything again.
I would rate it -10 but there is no stars for negative action.

I used Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator aerosol with the long nozzle to coat the inside on my 65 Mustang cowling, and the hard-to-reach areas of my trunk. Love the way the brass nozzle on the 24" extension sprays...does a great job. You can clean-up this nozzle assy with thinner and reuse so buy one of those and the rest with the reg spray nozzle...save a few bucks. Bought a quart of the brush-on to use on the accessable areas of my floor pans. Using Eastwoods brush-on Seam Sealer after the RE...hoping the car lasts another 48 years.

The product went on easy enough and looks good. Based on the reviews I hope it will keep the rust away under my body work. The coverage isn't what I expected so my recommendation is to buy more than you think you will need.

After about the third can you start to get the hang of It. It is very watery but seems to work great.

Once it's on the metal it's as great as always. Unfortunately had a lot of trouble getting it out of the can with consistency in 92 degree weather and high humidity.

When I thought I would be stopping for any appreciable amount of time, I turned the can upside down and sprayed clear, but the aerosol delivery was consistently progressively clogging even when using it constantly. Had to clear the nozzle with a needle and pick several times to get my full can's worth and this was all used on the same day.

I will continue to use it, however, I hope this issue will be resolved as it otherwise a great project.

Love the product performance if you can get it out of the can.

Opened the can the first time and started using it in 92 degree, high humidity weather. The can started clogging after just a few minutes of consistent use. It kept clogging and delivering inconsistent coverage as it would clog progressively.

When I knew I was going to be stopping for awhile, turned can upside down and sprayed the nozzle clear. Still had problems clogging when I resumed use.

Will still use in the future, however, I hope they can resolve these issues to make this an even more incredible product!
