the machine work on the dies is poor at best the bead dies don't match and the finish on all of them
is not very good. The dies you sold several years
ago were a lot better quality.

I like this bead roller and I can see a need for improvement, first I look at who buys this type of tool and my answer is a person doing restoration on a classic or antique car which I might add are all built with SAE nuts and bolts as well as sheet metal. EASTWOOD why not make the nuts and bolts for this tool in SAE instead of the crappy Chinese metric, metric cars are not your mainstay at this time. Next is the tightening stub that is welded to the upper body and darn well will break with out a gusset and finally when forming the top half of the tool really flexes I wonder how long before it breaks.

To someone looking for a value bead roller it's a good one to begin with. Got mine from their Ebay listing $150 shipped. However at this price it does need some improvment to work properly. The frame has a great deal of flex when under load, some heavy angle iron welded to each arm will take care of that. If you plan on using it alone and have short arms some kind of crank wheel needs to be installed instead of the supplied hand crank. The fact that it comes with a bunch of dies makes it a good deal but beware they are rough machined and will leave marks on your parts. If you're doing polished work or using aluminum they will need a heavy buffing and the edges need to be radiused. I ended up shaving .005" off each surface on my lathe and then polished them with emery compound and that did the trick. Finally, the tension bolt is kinda difficult to get consistent profile depths, it's a 1.5 mm thread pitch so each full turn will give approximate 1/16" depth. Good luck guys.

I set it up in a large vise. I then ignored the material listed there. After I re-red the instuctions I was able to achieve good results. With the heavier materials I found it needed some extra plates to be welded to the top arm to keep it from wondering in a few instances with 18 G sheet metal, and perhaps i was doing some thing wrong too.

All in all a great tool for any one needing to do a little beading project for you and a few friends. If it were stiffer on the top or cheaper this is a great deal and tool collection starter for metal fabrications.

After setting up in my vise , that was a snap, I started to experiment with different thichnesses and found it worked as described and best with 20 gauge sheet metal. Although I rated the value lwoer thanmost it was becasue of the wondering top arm onn 18 gauge material some times. Maybe I was doing it wrong but the results for the money are good enough to make it a good deal If it were a little cheaper this would be a very great deal. I will be adding a heaveier plate to stabilize the top arm soon. THen i will purchse the louver die !! All in all it is over all something that you can buy for less and achive good reults when yopu follow the instructions !!!!

I set it up in a standard large vise, not the optimum setup but adequate.I wil be solid mountig it to a wall bracket soon.I have just finished a plate for welding up the side of a ride on mower.to start of with I put a gentle pressure on the english wheel to arc the panel then I used the bead roller to put a top edge to match the profile on the mower deck and then against the curve I beaded a rolled edge at the bottom and using the shrinker stretcher on the top and bottom sized them in.Job done better than previous standard......Thanks to all the staff at Eastwoods .................
Simple to use.easy to work with. How did I live without it. (Posted on 4/10/11)

This is one of the most versatile tools in my kit as it does what it says ,as you can combine the dies and proce more comles panels.I just finished putting a 1/2 inch rolled edge on a part circlular piece of metal and then I was able to put an edge on the bottomcurving outward and upwards against the flow. Awesome if you dont understand Australian.
