About Eastwood Rust Dissolver Gallon
This acid-free, rust-eating, formula works as long as the metal surface remains wet. Won't harm steel, copper, brass, aluminum, solder, lead, plastic, rubber, seals, wood or vinyl, nor will it remove sound paint or chrome.
De-rust small parts by submerging them in a plastic container filled with Rust Dissolver. Larger parts can be placed in the discharge stream of a small plastic pump; irrigation hose can be used to assure complete coverage.
Removes bluing and other oxide coatings. One gallon de-rusts about 20 square feet.

Good Stuff That Worked Well for Me!!!
(Posted on 2/7/13)
Review by Mark -
I just finished using this as a pre-treatment to some items I needed to electroplate. Overall, I am very pleased with how well this product removed any remnants of rust that were left over after lightly hitting them with a wire brush earlier. It also seemed to have removed any of the remaining coating from the clips, so that was an added bonus for me.Price Value Quality
Overall, it should more than pay for itself over the next couple years (remember, it's reusable) so I would definitely recommend this to anyone who's planning on doing some electroplating or powder-coating at home.
I also thought I should add that I had no problem whatsoever with it eating away at the metal as another customer had stated. The items I had soaking in this solution were much thinner than a nut, yet none of their rigidity or strength was compromised at all (fuel injector clips).
Good stuff yet again, Eastwood!! Thanks for these great products at competitive prices! -
Not sure about this stuff

I've used a few gallons of this stuff. No matter how I rinse or clean the part after removing it from the chemical, it flash rusts. In just a few minutes.Price Value Quality
I left a few bolts and nuts in the chemical for quite a while and it ate them to the point that I cannot use them anymore. The nut actually turned into a hollow shell that I can break apart with my hand. I have some body mount shells that I am doing now and it looks like it is eating them apart too. Its not that the rust is ate away and I am seeing the damage from the rust. This is new damage that wasn't present.
This stuff will eat the finish off of anything, including tools. I used a pair of channel locks to remove some parts from the chemical and it ate the finish of the channel locks and they have completely rusted away. I can't open them anymore. A brand new pair. I was using them because the chemical will dry out and make my hands itch.
I tested a zinc plated bolt just a few minutes ago. It ate the zinc off of the bolt instantly.
This stuff eats the rust off and works great just make sure you only put parts in this stuff for a short period of time (just enough to remove the rust) and be sure to get some paint on the parts before they flash rust. -
Not what I expected

I have a rust covered roof. The phot makes it look like the chemical will make the rust disappear and fresh metal will appear. This was not the case for me.Value Quality Price -

I have used the liquid Rust Dissolver for a few years. It is not fast but is highly effective and reusable. Soak by submersion pitted parts after media blasting to eat rust out of pits that can't be seen with naked eye. Rinses easy with cool water and then dry. If left for days for heavy jobs without blasting it does not harm metal and will do the job. It is mild and does not promote re-rusting. Reblast bits and plate with Eastwood Tin/Zinc plating kit which is probably the best product I've bought, but does require techniques not talked about by Eastwood to enhance results. Both products have a great synergy in the restoration shop. If you want to contact me do so at billhitejrdds@comcast.netPrice Value Quality -

If you are restoring or reusing parts, and you're tired of spending hours trying to clean parts to make them good enough to paint, You REALLY need this stuff. No more ripping the skin of your fingers with a wire brush. Soak the parts in rust disolver, and rinse off when the rust is gone. It's that simple.Price Value Quality
