About Metal Blackening Kit with Diamond Clear

Auto makers have long used black oxide as an attractive coating for hardware. This economical black semi-gloss finish is often used on latches, hardware, brackets and many other automotive parts. Now you can reproduce the OEM look of black oxide at home! Not a paint or dye, Eastwood's Metal Blackening System provides a true OEM-type coating on any iron or steel part. It's safe and simple! Each piece takes only minutes to transform. The kit contains every thing you need: one pint of blackening concentrate, one aerosol Satin Diamond Clear, one process bottle, gloves, goggles, and detailed instructions.

    Contents

The Metal Blackening system includes one pint of Blackening Solution Concentrate, 1 aerosol Satin Diamond Clear, a pair of disposable gloves, goggles, process containers, and complete instructions.

    Accessories

With use the blackening solution loses its strength and eventually, needs to be replaced with replacement Blackening Solution Concentrate (10113ZB). For Replacement Sealant use (10300Z) Diamond Clear Satin for Bare Metal.

    Safety

Use in a well ventilated area. Read and understand all instructions.

    Warranty

Made in the USA. 30 Day Eastwood Warranty.

    Application

This system is appropriate for applying a non-dimensional black oxide finish to steel and iron. This system is NOT for use on aluminum, brass, copper, or stainless steel. Steel and iron parts to be blackened need to be thoroughly cleaned by removing all grease and other coatings down to bare metal. Cleaning with a solvent like PRE Painting Prep (10041Z), and chemically cleaning with Fast Etch 16oz(19416Z), 32oz (19415ZP), or gallon (19418ZP), is recommended to assure that an even blackened coating is achieved. Rinse coated parts in water, and force dry then spray with Diamond Clear Satin for Bare Metal.

using this to restore my 1967 Chevelle. the system works great as long as the bolts are super clean. use a sandblaster or a vibratory tumbler to clean the pieces first. after blackening and rinsing use an air compressor would work better than wiping it off.

I used this product to restore the appearence of some VW CV joints as well as the socket head bolts. I did not like the bare metal appearence after I sand blasted them. This product made them look stock again. I will definately buy more.

I used this product as directed however the parts started rusting just sitting on the shelf. Initially they looked good, but now I have to go back and reassemble everything to treat the rust and use a different product. Don't waist your time or money.

Just starting the re-assembly of my 1971 Chevy C10 and wanted an alternative to purchasing new hardware for my project. I used the product to blacken the existing hardware. After wire-wheeling, I followed the supplied directions and was very impressed with the results. Was able to treat about 50-60 pieces (drying time included) within about 1.5 hours and have plenty of spray remaining for another batch.

After sand blasting the car parts I used this product to blacked it just like the original on a 69 Camaro. It worked just as promised. A friend that works at a shop that restores vehicles, stated that it works better than the product they are currently using.
