This is a perfect buffer. The only drawback is the 3/4" arbor, because there are not many buffing wheel choices in this size, plus you have to use a wrench to change the wheels. A tapered spindle will let you spin the wheels on and off at will in seconds. You can buy a screw on tapered spindle pair for $50 at Knife and Gun Finishing Supplies http://www.knifeandgun.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=TSP. Now you have the perfect machine, big, powerful, dual speed, you can use any sized wheel (use a chart to get the correct speed for the metal and the compound). You can find that in the Metal Finishers Handbook. The pedestal is strong and everything will last for years. I am a research scientist and I spent many hours looking for the right buffer and I am very happy with this one.
