About Eastwood Fast Etch Rust Dissolver - 1 Gallon

Acid-based Fast Etch™ is a powerful, rust-fighting formula created specifically for auto restorers. It reaches even inaccessible areas, quickly dissolving iron oxide completely as it leaves a protective zinc-phosphate coating. Fast Etch can be sprayed, brushed, or used as a parts dip. Works as an easy alternative to abrasive blasting for rust removal. Not a primer. Treated surfaces should be wiped with our 10041Z PRE Painting Prep or a thinner before priming and painting. 1 gallon of Fast Etch™ treats 200-300 square feet.
1-gallon jug of Fast Etch
(Q) Is hydrogen embrittlement a possibility?
(A) There is a minimal risk of hydrogen embrittlement (metal becoming brittle) when using this rust remover. If that is a concern, bake de-rusted parts at 400 degreesF for 3 hours after using Fast Etch™.

I use fast etch to clean up rusty bolts, nuts and small parts in my restoration work. Just soak them in a container over night and they are usually ready for primer. Don't leave your items for too long or they could become over coated with phosphate. I have tried several other products including the other Eastwood rust dissolver but I have found this product the best for my work.

We routinely use this on bare metal parts to protect them until we can paint them. We used this product on steel fenders after they came back from being chemically stripped. It was over two years from when the fenders were stripped until they were ready for paint and no sign of surface rust. We always keep some on hand.

This is pretty basic, if you are looking for the fastest, most complete etcher on the market this is it. The added bonus of the product is that it's easy to handle and isn't as toxic as it really could be. If your time is valuable, this is the only choice.

I have used it to restore 2 old jeeps, removing, eliminating and preventing rust. I will always have some Fast Etch in my garage on hand. It just stops the rust. Easily sandable and I have learned that if you have major rust, it will encapsulate it, then when you want to remove, hit it with a wire wheel and it comes off all at once, in chunks and not as dust. Works well...

I own a powder coating company and we now and again have things that start to rust between the time they get blasted and the time we get them to powder coat them. I figured on a whim that this stuff might actually work, so I tried it. It actually does a really good job. Requires a little bit of rubbing, but not much. It also does a fantastic job of stripping the plating off of bolt heads so you can coat them and get the powder to stick properly. Make sure to neutralize it with "Pre" or Acetone before you powder over it.
