Eastwood Self-Etching Weld-Thru Primer 16oz Aerosol

    Item #12899Z Brand: Eastwood

    Details

Eastwood's Self-Etching Weld-Thru Primer combines the benefits of a weld-thru and the capabilities of a traditional self-etching primer.

This unique self-etching primer formula has organic binders that replace conductive heavy metals such as copper and zinc. These organic binders will burn off during the welding process, leaving a corrosion-resistant self-etching primer for paint prep. This product will reduce spatter and distortion caused by excessive heat that occurs during the welding process. Compatible with MIG, TIG and Arc welding. The metal-etching primer will enhance adhesion and durability and is compatible with most top coats.

    • Enhances adhesion and durability of top coats
    • Prevents corrosion and reduces spatter
    • Non-conductive organic binders
    • Gray color

Not much better than the 5 dollar rustoleum (Posted on 8/4/2014)

The stuff sprayed really thin took 2 to 3 coats so I could not see through it to the bare metal. When spraying it (2 different cans) it wanted to spray puddles out occasionally. The can's I used didn't cover half the square footage that the can says it will.
Why did Eastwood stop selling the Quarts? (Posted on 4/25/2014)

I liked the quarts, it made it easier to get a consistent primer coat. Now I have to rattle can the area, and then follow up with the standard self etching primer. Just not as good.

I bought this for welding in new floor pans and patch panels on my Nova. Works great and sprays good for most of the can. When the can got low its almost like there wasn't enough propellent and it started to spit and sputter. Welds great, doesn't seem to bother the welder and doesn't burn too much. I ordered more.

Sprays a little thin like good automotive paint. Welds through easy and clean.

I am a welder/fabricator by trade, Makes welding 20 ga difficult, even with .023 wire. Better to coat and then clean to bare metal at the precise weld locations.

I do a lot of restoration work on old Jeeps and use this paint exclusivly for protecting my work on the bayer metal even if I dont weld it. I buy it by the case.

Horrible as weld-thru. Poor arc and lots of spatter, hit-and-miss whether it welds through or not. May work better with thicker metal, but with lower settings for sheet metal its awful.
