Eastwood MIG Spot Weld Kit

    Item #13901 Brand: Eastwood

    Details

Now you can "spot weld" with your MIG welder...just add this Spot Welding Kit to your tool box! Use your MIG welder together with our Spot Welding Kit to produce professional spot welds without the need for a large resistance welder.
    • Duplicate full-penetration OE spot welds from one side with your existing MIG welder
    • No need to buy a resistant spot welder (about $250!) or fool with carbon arc rods
    • Spot Weld Pliers has forked jaws to secure the spot nozzle, offering full penetration on the back side of the weld
    • Spot Weld Nozzle has "leg extensions" to create the exact standoff distance required for spot welding of 20- and 18-gauge metals

About Eastwood MIG Spot Weld Kit

Until now, you’d spot-weld primarily by using a large resistance welder, but now you can use your MIG welder together with this Spot Welding Kit from Eastwood to achieve the same professional results.

Spot welding is accomplished by clamping two panels together and fusing them with a number of sequentially-placed welds, rather than in a continuous bead, to hold the panels together. This kit is designed to be used with Eastwood’s welders as well as any other brand welder that utilizes a Tweco®-style MIG torch.

The combination of the Spot Pliers and Spot Nozzle assures complete welds all the way through, and exact duplication of each spot weld.

For 18-gauge steel, or if you're using a less-than-175-amp MIG welder, simply use the supplied double-ended HSS drill bit to drill a 0.187" pilot hole in the top panel only, and then complete the spot weld as usual. The pilot hole serves to assure complete and full penetration from the top to the bottom panel. This type of weld is far greater in strength than a simple resistant spot weld, but produces the exact OE look, with greater weld strength.

    Safety

Works great with my Thermal-Arc Fabricator 131 welder, but I wish I had a 175 so I didn't need to punch holes in the top panel.... Welds look great as long as you make sure the wire hits right in the center of the hole.

I bought the 175 MIG and ordered this at the same time. I got a chance to use it a couple days ago on the 72 Jeepster Commando that I am rebuilding. I used it to spot weld the old hood latch holes with some 16 ga sheet metal as a backing and it worked great. I also used it on some holes in my grille and used a homemade copper backer that worked great.
    Glad I bought it.

I am a brand new welder, and this product looked PERFECT for my "replace the rocker panels" project, but it doesn't seem to work well for me. I just bought the HF 90A welder, and although it fits, the HF welder just doesn't seem to be able to work with this product. I spent a LOT of practice time to get it to work, and ended up getting much better results by not even using it. I do see some great potential, maybe the HF welder is just not the best 110V welder for this to shine (likely?) so maybe I will scrap the HF 90A and try the Eastwood 135 mig welder.
Probably works well. (Posted on 5/8/2013)

I had the same problem a few others have had. It won't fit my 2 year old Miller Matic. I am keeping it though. At least the clamp comes in handy. After I purchased this I found out Miller makes a spot weld nozzle so I'm going to get that one.

The tip falls apart after about 20 spot welds. The center threaded portion is not attached properly and the heat will melt the tape they use to put it together. Great idea though, and works great for those first 20 spot welds.
