Eastwood Rust Encapsulator - Paint Over Rust in Black

    Item #Encapsulator 16060

    Details

Stop rust in its tracks! Our Rust Encapsulator has been reformulated with TWICE the corrosion resistance!

You thought it was good before...wait ’til you try this Rust Encapsulator! It seals and stops rust and corrosion from spreading, but it performs even better than our original formula. Tested against well-known brands, the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in sunlight resistance, preventing rust creep, and overall durability.

    • Twice the corrosion resistance of our original formula for greater durability (tested to 500 hours in a salt-spray chamber)
    • Epoxy-fortified for better adhesion and topcoat compatibility
    • Penetrates deeper to prevent rust from spreading or forming, even in hard-to-reach areas
    • Cures faster, and the low-VOC formula is acceptable in California
    • 15-oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft.
    • As seen on "My Classic Car" TV show

About Eastwood Rust Encapsulator - Paint Over Rust in Black

Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has been tested by an independent lab to be one of the most effective rust-preventive products yet. Rust Encapsulator is a great primer for floor pans and other underbody parts. It fills tiny pin-holes and surface irregularities, and is compatible with lacquer, enamel and urethane topcoats (including Eastwood Chassis Black). For the absolute ultimate rust remedy, first brush or spray-on Eastwood Rust Converter, then prime with Rust Encapsulator. One 15-oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft., and contains no isocyanates. Heat-resistant up to 400°F. Made in the USA.

    Application

Use a wire brush to remove loose rust, scale and paint, and remove dust, grease and oil deposits. Wipe down with either Acetone or Pre Painting Prep (10041Z). Feather surrounding paint with 220-grit sandpaper. Shake can for at least 2 minutes once the mixing ball starts to rattle. Hold the Rust Encapsulator can 10-12" above surface as you spray. A single coat dries to the touch in 20 minutes, and is thoroughly dry in 3-4 hours at 68°F. For greater durability, a second coat can be applied 1 hour after the first. Allow 6-8 hours after the last coat before applying topcoat. Use over or under body fillers.

    FAQ's

    (Q) Can Rust Encapsulator be applied with the Undercoating System?
    (A) Technically, yes, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the Heavy-Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds and through rust to seal surfaces from contact with moisture and air, but cannot be painted over, so it's only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.

    Safety

Work in a well-ventilated area when applying this product. The use of a respirator is recommended. Shake vigorously for 2 minutes before spraying.

    Accessories

In places where little or no surface prep can be done, our Heavy-Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP) is actually a better choice for applying into blind areas such as box sections. Buy 3 or more quart cans and save!

I picked up a can of the satin black and I have to say, I like it a lot. The encapsulator lays down exteremely smooth and it dries in minutes. No more brush marks and waiting days for it to dry. As along as it works as well as POR15 or the paint on Encapsulator, I will be buying this by the case. Just wish it wasn't so expensive.

I am restoring my 1967 Camaro and this product really does a great job of chemical treatment after removing loose rust and degreasing the area.

I am unable to give a full review since I just sprayed it on my fender skirts and inside my hood and inside roof rails to coat the stuff I couldn't get to easily with wire brush. So I'll get back to you in a couple years

I used this over the internal frame coating but it covered nicely and stuck to the surface without an issue. Seems like thick and durable paint compared to the thin rust sealing paint I've used in other brands.

I have been using the black rust ecapsulator for over 6 years - both from the can and the spray can now on a variety of projects from my 66 Mustang to my 66 F250 and now a 66 VW Beetle. Goes on great, dries relatively fast and is very durable. I've used it several times without a topcoat and it holds up great. Given that I live in Arizona I can't say I have tested this stuff to the limit in terms of rust prevention, but it is very handy when you just can't get off that last little bit of rust. Gives me peace of mind. I even use it on bare metal that is not rusted. It's a bit pricey and sometimes the nozzle clogs or the accelerant runs out before the can is empty, but overall I have been very pleased with the product.

I swear that when I ordered this product for the "fathers day" sail, it did not say "trial size" no did I see the 2oz delineation. I was completely shocked and appalled by what I ordered. It's about the size of a can of mace spray. The larger cans are a better bang for the buck.

The 1 star ratings are simple because the 2OZ can is a complete rip-off.

Seems to have very good adhesion qualities. coverage is great. Sprays well for a rattle can product. I am very interested to see that it actually stops rust. Overall a great product so far. the Eastwood customer service has a long way to go ...really poor!

I had my car trailer sand blasted and had a nice clean, bare metal finish. I painted the whole structure with this product (two coats) Withing one year the rust is returning and coming through the paint. I am not pleased. I should have stayed with Rustolium.
