About Eastwood Underhood Black Paint
Underhood Black is the correct shade of black underhood paint for engine-compartment paint on radiator supports, inner fender walls, lug wrenches, jack bases, underhood brackets and other parts. Black underhood paints from typical hardware stores are either too thick, too glossy, or the wrong color.
Just clean, degrease, and prepare the parts well (use our Self-Etching Primers), then apply this engine-compartment paint for a professional, factory-like, underhood paint finish. Acrylic lacquer withstands up to 250 degreesF and goes on thin for a smooth finish that doesn’t hide surface details. Do not use with enamel primers.
Due to regulations pertaining to paint recycling, at this time we are unable to ship this product to Alberta, Canada.
16014Z Self-Etching Primer, Aerosol
16009ZP Self-Etching Primer, Quart
A. Surface must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, grease and oil. For maximum protection, first prime with a self-etching primer or epoxy primer before top-coating. For best results, use when can is between 70 and 90 degrees F. This engine-compartment paint may be used over bare metal, self-etching primer, or Rust Encapsulator.

Underhood Black Spray Can
Review by Master -
Value Quality Price I have no complaints about the paint itself. But you would think for the price you would get a decent spray can to dispence it with. Better start excersizing your finger now. It is HARD to use. Even with a trigger attachment you get worn out. After half a can you cant keep the spray going due to fatique. Average paint in a super cheap can only gets 3 stars.

Little disappointed...
Review by Mike -
Price Value Quality I'm working on a 1986 Buick Grand National. I sand blasted, primed (with black primer), and then painted some of the underhood brackets and fuel rail with the aerosol version of this paint. I found that the spray had a hard time picking up the paint solids from the can and depositing them smoothly and evenly on the parts, and this was after shaking vigorously for several minutes. Even after three fairly heavy coats, there is still variation in the sheen of the paint as you look across the surfaces of a part. The sheen ranges from nearly flat to nearly semi-gloss on the same part. I also noticed that dry, black overspray particles got everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Clean-up in the basement took forever. Overall, the sheen of this paint is a little flatter than the factory black paint that was used on this vehicle. Quite frankly, the rustoleum primer I used looked smoother and more consistent than this paint did. If I ever do this again, I will order the quart and try running it through my sprayer or air brush, or I will try a different paint. The aerosol cans were just not that good.

This is the finish you're looking for...
Review by CDK -
Value Quality Price I sprayed my engine compartment/inner fenders/radiator support with this paint and the finish is virtually identical to the factory color and sheen. I am not aware of any other aerosol paint on the market that will get this close to OEM.
My favorite thing about this paint is its resistance to oily fingerprints. You can clean oils off of this paint without them staining (unlike all other low gloss paints I've tried). I didn't have any problems with the cans or nozzles (I've used 6 cans now), nor did I have any issues with variations in the sheen. The paint dries wildly fast and lays down smooth because it's on the thinner side (I suspect it's this way to obtain the unique finish). Use a black primer to reduce the number of coats you'll need to cover.
For reference, I needed 1.5 cans to paint the radiator support on my Chevy K10.

Nice gloss but chips easily
Review by chpjr -
Value Quality Price I'm using this paint for some aluminum engine panels for my kit car. The shade and gloss are right on, but the problem I've found is that the paint chips easily. It doesn't take much for it to flake off.

Very poor product!
Review by Jim -
Quality Price Value This is a lacquer based product using 50 year old technology. Very poor resistance to chipping, abrasion and chemicals. It will not hold up. Only use it if you place 'for sale' signs in the window of your ride immediately. After spending many hours on prepping your metal, do yourself a huge favor and use either an enamel or better yet a catalyzed product such as urethane. Otherwise you will have wasted all of your time.
