About Eastwood Rust Converter
This high-tech formula halts residual rust in its tracks and converts it into a black protective polymeric coating that eliminates the need for sanding. The converted protective coating is a suitable primer, and is compatible with most top coats. Additionally, the protective coating will seal the surface against moisture to prevent future rust growth. Simply remove loose rust with a wire brush, then apply Eastwood’s Rust Converter. Allow to dry, then top coat it with a quality coating, such as Eastwood’s Chassis Black. Single component; no more mixing.

Always use appropriate eye, skin, and respiratory protection when using this product. Safety information is also described on the container. Consult MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for proper safety requirement.
Eastwood Rust Converter will convert areas only where rust is present. If there is no rust present, there will be nothing for the product to react with and adhere to. You will only see it convert rust in the areas where rust is present.
The surface should be clean and dry before application of Rust Converter. If moisture is present or the surface is damp, it can cause the product to dry milky white or not adhere to surface.
When preparing the surface, it is important not to take it down to the bare metal. If this occurred, a metal primer is needed in place of the rust converter. To prepare the surface, remove loose particles of rust and debris with a wire brush or rag. Remove any grease, oil, or salt residue using PRE. Please note that any residue left on the surface will interfere with the adhesion of the product.
Eastwood Rust Converter should be stored in a cool dry place, protected from freezing or temperatures above 100 degreesF. Optimum results are obtained when the surface temperature and the product are between 50 degreesF and 95 degreesF. Do not apply if the surface temperature is below 50 degreesF as it will take longer for the product to react and form a hard surface. This can also cause the product to dry milky white or not fully adhere to the rust. If the temperature of the surface is significantly higher than 95 degreesF, it can cause some of the components to evaporate too quickly and interfere with adhesion.
Application — It is important to apply a thin coat first and allow it to dry before applying a second coat. Allow the surface to cure for 48 hours and protect it from moisture, rain or dew. On thick areas or deep encrustations of rust, it is important to wire-brush these areas to as level to the surface as possible without removing all the rust. The product will absorb into deep rust, leaving little product on the surface, resulting in rust bleed-through if not properly prepped.

Tough Curing

I had the curing resistance issue mentioned by other reviewers. Four days after "converting" my set of brake drums they still felt tacky / gummy. I set them outside every morning, out of direct sun, and broght them in every evening. When it appeared I was going to have to strip them I decided to try direct sun, and good thing I did. After two 90-degree-plus days baking in the hot sun, they're dry and hard as a rock, a fine surface for flat black heat dissipating paint. For a sticky under-frame? Not sure how to cure; maybe the heat gun mentioned is your best bet!Quality Price Value -

I purchased a kit of different coatings from Eastwoods some time ago just to try. I found the rust encapsulator seems to work ok but I won't use the converter again. It might be good on a frame that is solid rust but it seems if there is any paint or non-rusted metal left it just stays sticky and paint won't adhere to it. I cleaned two fender braces and tried this product, big mistake. Some areas didn't dry after two weeks and the primer paint just blistered up.Price Value Quality -

Brushed my frame with a wire brush, wiped it down with Pre and brushed on rust converter just like the video shows. The parts that I have hit so far already look 10 times better. Tomorrow I start with rust encapsulater, but so far truly impressed with the rust fighting program.Price Value Quality -

Dave is right. It seems there must still be at least a little layer of rust on the entire surface in order to dry, other wise it just stays sticky. Especially if you spray it on too thick. It's like the rust is an "activator". Even then, just do light coats. Frankly, I would just forget this stuff and go right to the "Rust Encapsulator" as you can get it in black, silver and red, and it works more like you expect, like on VW seat spring assembly.Price Value Quality -

I am using this on a 69 mach 1 i am restoring. It works just as advertised. Dries as it should, and really does a great job converting the metal to a solid paitable surface. I have had no issues of it not drying, peeling or flaking like othere seem to have. If you follow the directions, it will save you countless of hours and dollars in your project!!!! I continue to use it, and will again in the future!!!!!!Price Value Quality -

I used this on the battery tray for my F100. The metal was rusted so bad that the thickness was nearly 1" of flaky rust. After working in rust converter with a stiff brush and numerous applications -until when dry, no more orange color, all black, the metal was so hard and ready for paint that I could not even scratch it with a screwdriver. Now I have the edge of my battery tray is still one inch thick, and rock-hard. Rust never sleeps, convert it!Price Value Quality

I used the aerosal can and sparyed a metal trunk header piece. Started out O.K. and turned nice black in about 12 hours. I let it sit for about 3 days. Going to prime the piece and started to wipe it down with some Prep. "Pre" from here and it started to flake off. Stopped wiping and let it dry another two days. Primed it and it looked good. One week later the primer is bubled and you can scratch it all off with your finger and rust iis forming under it. What gives. just glad i didn't top it yet. I did the rest of the parts with fast etch and much better results. DO NOT use this unless the parts are really rusted in my opinion, otherwise it will just sit on the metal and never fully dry. I prob will not use this again.Value Quality Price -

Product was put on sanded metal surface that had rust only in pittd areas. Stuff never seemed to dry or convert the rusted pits. If it is not cleaned well off base metal, it attacks the primer coat and cause more blistering/rust.Value Quality Price -

While the rust converter seems to work OK,Price Value Quality
it doesn't work quickly.
The instructions on the can state: "Allow 48 hours
to completely cure before painting." At 50-55 degrees F the cure seems to need 72 hours or more.
I need a rust converter which will cure 100%
on the same day.
