I usually use the chalk type with good success but decided to try the greaseless, personally I think the chalk is better for my application. Great value even though I can't get the greaseless 220 grit to cut like chalk emery. Still worked good for an intermediate between emery and the jewlers compound.

I've used this for years to prep primarily hand held antique tools, knives, chisles. It works like a flexible grinding wheel. Yes a 50 or 60 grit would help.

Still have to start with 80Grit emorycloth to remove corrosion on stainless trim. After that the compounds are OK.
Stainless trim does corrode and many times cannot be totally removed without compromising the metal.
