About Eastwood Dual Voltage HotCoat Powder Coating Gun

The Dual Voltage HotCoat gun is one of the best powder coating guns on the market today. Why powder coat? Because it gives you one of the most economical, color-durable, and longest-lasting finishes available. You'll find powder-coated surfaces are far more resistant to chipping, scratches, fading, and wear than other finishes, and the color selection is virtually unlimited, with high and low gloss, metallic, and clear finishes available. And thanks to the UV resistance of many of the powders, colors stay bright and vibrant longer. Texture selections range from smooth surfaces to a wrinkled or matte finish, plus rough textures designed for hiding surface imperfections.

One 8-oz. bottle of powder (not included) covers the same area as 2-3 cans of spray paint, and clean-up is easy, since you can simply sweep-up the oversprayed powder. Contains no environmentally harmful solvents. HotCoat powder coating requires a 5-10psi compressed air source and dedicated electric oven (or toaster oven).

    FAQs

    (Q) How long does the baking process take?
    (A) For improved flow out (less "orange peel"), bake coated parts at 500 degreesF until powder flows out (about 3-4 minutes for light sheet metal parts), then turn down the heat to 400 degreesF for a full 15 minutes.

    (Q) How can I improve transfer efficiency?
    (A) The 10128 HotCoat High-Performance Deflector greatly improves transfer efficiency. Use the Standard Deflector for getting powder in recessed areas.

    (Q) What are the electrical requirements?
    (A) This HotCoat Gun requires 105-125VAC, 2 amps at 50-60 Hz. Can be used with a voltage transformer such as 220-230VAC to 105-125VAC as long as the transformer can handle 2 amps.

    Safety

Use a disposable dust mask when handling or applying powder. Powder, like common flour, can be explosive when suspended in the air in high concentrations. To minimize any explosion risk, sweep up—do not vacuum—powder from the floor. Cure powder in a well-ventilated area. The urethane powders we sell liberate a very minute amount of isocyanates when the powder flows out. This usually occurs about 3-5 minutes after the part is placed in the oven to bake. Wear a respirator with fresh filter cartridges when curing or inspecting flow-out progress.

I had the original gun which worked ok, but this gun is much better. More powder on the part, less on the floor. Cables from the box to the gun could be longer though.

I think this is a great product for the Hobby. Powder coating is very satisfying. My 1 suggestion that would make this product a lot nicer to use would be to change the spec of the wires and plugs. They are always stiff and coiled up like spaghetti. That is frustrating and would be a simple change at the factory level.

This gun does a great job at either setting. I have used more expensive guns but this does as nice of job as they do for less money.

I had the original hot coat gun and it was hit and miss most of the time but generally worked OK (it had the leaking powder issue). The dual voltage gun is light years ahead of the old one in this regard. There really is no need considering the single voltage gun anymore. It works like the old one should have from the beginning. Do yourself a favor and get this one not the 'other' one.

I bought the Dual voltage gun and I used it once and the lid was cracked,it leaked more powder then what came out of the end of the gun. I returned it and received another gun and it leaked the same as the first one, I have a glued it and it worked ok for little while, glued it again and now the lid itself is stripped out where the bottle screws on. (still leaks)I would be willing to pay more money for a better product and all they need to do is make the lid out of metal and seal it properley. I am now buying a REAL powder gun and powder from another supplier.

I purchased the gun and instantly it was leaking from where the cup connects to the gun. After a few days of use and not paying any mind to the leak, the gun stooped working. I had to figure out the issue myself since i did not want to send it out and wait for them to send it back. The switch to trigger the charge was also made very cheap and the wire disconnected itself from the switch. I fixed that. After that i decided to contact Eastowood about the leak and they send me instructions on how to fix the issue myself. I had only own the gun for less than a month and they tell me how to fix it. Also the way they instructed me to fix the gun is probably the way the gun should be manufactured from the start. The fact that they had a whole PDF file with pictures and instructions on how to fix it, leads me to believe that these guns go bad all the time. Bad quality gun. Would not recommend to anyone.

First time powder-coater here. My dad got me this gun for Christmas while it was on sale. I've been able to do small miscellaneous parts for my car with ease. I didn't have the money to buy an oven off here, so I just found one on craigslist for $20 that cures my projects just fine. Saves me money from doing it elsewhere. Planning on offering it as a service to the local area as soon as space is made in our garage and the sandblasting cabinet is assembled. Couldn't have been happier.

Worked as expected, right down to the leak where the barrel attaches to the bottle lid. Since I expected this, I fixed it w/ clear epoxy. Otherwise, the gun works great for large areas, on the High setting.I tried to put a high performance deflector on it, but the emitter is smaller than on the standard gun. I used more epoxy to hold it in place. Haven't tried it w/ the deflector yet, but will very soon. It might not be needed, but I'll find out. Overall, I'm happy with it.

Have original system..worked ok. Was looking to have better coverage with less waste. Designed a nozzel for the original that directed powder much better that those that came with system, Using this new....higher voltage system is great. We finished a group of hinges we were using outside on a building. Coverage was quicker, thicker coating, thus much better flow and coverage. Thanks Eastwood, for this product.

I was fortunate enough to pick the gun up at a rock bottom sale price and knowing nothing about powder coating was able to knock out great looking parts in notime. I suck at painting and this thing made me look like a rock star
