About Eastwood Gel Rust Dissolver Quart

Tacky gel sticks to large surfaces and dissolves rust without having to submerse the metal in a tub or bucket, so it's perfect for roofs, deck lids, hoods, frame rails and more. Easy to use: simply wire-brush off the loose rust and scale, then apply gel with a brush; penetrates deep into the metal to dissolve the rust overnight. (Can also be submerged, if desired.) If you're going to top-coat the surface, first use our 10041Z PRE Painting Prep to remove any residual dissolver.

So gentle, you can use it on engine parts; harmless to copper, brass, aluminum, solder, lead, plastic, rubber, wood and vinyl.

Looking for a rust remover? Keep looking! This is more of a rust multiplier. I thought I had a problem with rust before I used it. After I finished and cleaned it off the flash rust began immediately and was like nothing I've ever seen! Save yourself a bunch of work and just get out the wire brush and sandpaper now.

I used this on an old Completely rusted Steamer Trunk that was all Tin & Steel. Coated the whole thing and the rust remover was thicker that liquid dissolvers I've used but I was hoping is would be more GEL like. Anyway I rapped the project and waited 8 hours and hosed it. Took a lot off but not all. I dried it and applied remover again and covered overnite. I uncovered it and scrubbed it with a wire brush. Hosed it.. IT REMOVED ALL THE RUST! Clean bare tin and steel! With repeated applications it WILL work and work well. Like to see it made more like a gel though. Would dry quickly on a larger project but I like it. I would buy it again.

I was really disappointed with this product. First it leaked and the contents of the shipping box were soaked. Second it was a liquid not a gel. Don't know what went wrong with this product. I ended up tossing it. However I will say that Customer Service were really good and Eastwood gave credit. I'm still a fan of Eastwood.

So gentle it does remove rust. And its not a gel at all. I tried to remove rust from a core support with on success. Followed instrustion including the plastic rap overnight like it states an nothing. What a waste of money!

The gel rust remover is not a gel. I requested a replacement bottle thinking that the bottle was mislabeled as the material was like water. U sent a replacement of the product and it was just as thin as the first. I can only conclude that your term for gel is different is different than mine. other than that, the product worked beautifully.

The build up was so good on here i had to try it...
I Wire brushed by hand and with a drill the bottom of my doors...03 Ford F250 SD.
I clean all i could, all that was left was very pitted metal I though this would clean that up, Wiped it all down with Pre Perp New Shop Rags and applied the gel with a form brush, Kept it wet for Hour...
By Morning all i got was a yellow green slim Tried to clean off with water as it saids on the bottle, than soap and water, Then almost the whole bottle pre prep. Called Eastwoods tech help line. was told to sand it and use lacquer thinner, OMG sanding didn't work too taactie lacquer thinner got it off and rubbing it forever ... Live and learn......
If it sounds to good to be True walk away...

I have used both Naval Jelly and POR-15's Metal Ready in the past with good results, but thought I'd try Eastwood's Rust Dissolver to see how it compared (I bought the gel). I had some small nuts & bolts with some light rust, and followed the directions for the "submersion" method. After 8+ hours, there was still a substantial amount of surface rust on them that hadn't been converted. Not impressed. I'm switching back to the other rust conversion products I've used more successfully.
Excellent Product and works as advertised! (Posted on 4/15/2011)

I have to say I was apprehensive on ordering this product because everything I have ever purchased for rust removal was a complete joke.
But I knew Eastwood was great with everything they sell and the alternative to replacing the pipes on my motorcycle restoration project was going to astronomical-so I gave tthe gel a shot. I did as directed, wired brushed all the heavy rust off and used a chip brush to coat the pipes still installed on the bike. I used plastic shopping bags and wrapped the pipes loosley and gave them the overnight soaking.
I unwrapped them the nect morning and all the rust was gone- not some of it, or partially removed but COMPLETELY removed!!!! I washes them off, applied a few coats of metal polish and they look amazing- I will also add that these pipes coming out of then engine looked absolutely terrible. Just sold brown corroded rusty exaust pipes. This Gel is worth every penny and saved me so much money I am still amazed evry time I look at them.
I have the spokes to do on both wheels and have no worries about the rest of the project.
A little of this goes along way and I used plenty.
I am regretting not taking a before and after pic to post, but I will with the wheels.
Order this product with no worries about performance- it works!
