MIG 175 welder is designed for the professional or weekend enthusiast. Amperage and output voltage can be controlled precisely to get the proper penetration required. Wire speed can be infinitely adjusted to gain proper wire fill in the weld pool. I have had my old Millermatic 180 die on me. I have been meaning to get a spool gun add-on for it before it died, but it seemed rather pricey. I saw this EW unit on eBay while I was searching for a spool gun to see if it was worth repairing my Miller and saw the price was WITH a welder?! So I ended up purchasing the EW unit with spool gun. Trying this thing out the second I got it with 75/25 AR/CO2 and wow. It took a couple of tack bead tests to get the settings right on my work area, and it seems to weld so smoothly! I then switched to AR 100 gas and put a roll of SS316 in to play with, and it's just as easy and smooth. My Miller was never this easy on me. It usually took a lot of tweaking with duty, feed, and gas volume to get things right. So now to test the spool gun on a piece of old cast aluminum with AR 100. At first I kept getting burn backs, but just pulled the gun further back for a longer stick out (1/2-3/4") and turned the gas up. Now it was just spraying into the weld. From my view I can just see a big cone from the tip of the wire and on the work surface it just turns into a puddle. Taking my mask off revealed a beautiful aluminum weld with full penetration on 3/8" cast aluminum (suspension knuckle piece). This is my first time trying aluminum or a spool gun. I turned down the duty and got some nice aluminum piping welded together for my inter-cooler. This welder made me forget about my Miller on day one. First timer welders or experienced welders will not be disappointed by this thing. The only thing I noticed was the cables are rather short compared to my Miller. No big deal, because I have the unit propped on my work cart and roll it around close to the work area anyway.Price Value Quality -

I took the risk to import one in Mexico because, including all costs, the price was less than one half of the 180 Lincoln with spool gun sold here without true warranty. Too tempting...Price Value Quality
First, the general quality is very good, the details speak by themselves:
- Very nice shipping pack with double carton boxes and a thick layer of PVC foam.
- Good metal case well painted.
- Good hinges.
- Very clean inside (see the pics). 2 transformers...
- Nice wire feed system with a very convenient change of groove size without tools.
- The blower moves a lot of air and cools very efficiently the welder.
The manual has to be modified for the changes of the wire feed. The gas setting recommendation of 25-30 CFM is far too much, in most cases 15-20 CFM is enough.
A chapter about the change of liner and gas diffusor must be added.
The manual is well written and clear.
How it works? Very nicely. The wire feeding is strong and it's very easy with the sensitive potentiometers of amperage and wire speed to get the best tuning. Excellent penetration.
The spool gun looks at first sight cheapo, but it's a false impression, it's well made and works flawlessly. And yes it welds aluminum from 14 gauge to 1/4.
Small tricks:
- Use an oversized tip (035 for a 030 wire) and clean the aluminum with a SS brush and ethilic alcohol. Preheating to 300°F solves a lot of problems in big pieces.
- Argon can be used for welding SS, so no need for a trimix gas. Con: the heat affected zone will be greater.
- Drill bits of 025, 030, 035 and 040 are a good investment for maintaining the tips.
Tips and nozzles are common Tweco type you can find everywhere. The gun is the ordinary chinese standart, so you can get a longer one easily. But it's better to have a cart and to use the shortest possible gun...better wire feeding.
With a 30 day money back and a 3 years warranty, the risk is small...I think that this welder will last if the electronic components are of the same quality as the outside welder.
The welder uses only 23 measured Amps at max and a 25 Amp double breaker will be the good one. The 50 Amps plug is enormous, I changed it for 20 Amp industrial one as I need extensions.
The welder works as well as a 180T Lincoln.
And Eastwood has been very serviceable with all the complications of invoice, payment and shipping.

I received my welder and it didn't work. Tech said it might be the hose and trigger assy, I tried the spool gun and the welder than worked. Eastwood sent a complete new unit witch cured the problem. I tried the spoolgun with Aluminum wire and to my surprise my first efforts with MIG on Aluminum weren't half bad. I'm sure with some practice, it will work well. It works very well on Steel, partly due to it's very steady wire feed.Value Quality Price

This is a great welder! The compact design makes the welder an asset for off site work provided the power supply is available. It does the job of much more bulkier and heavier welders. The efficiency is superb, excellent penetration with the ability to perform a full range of welding styles on various type metals with little or no stand-by. The duty cycle allows for pretty much continuous welding with little effort for most automotive applications. The added ability to handle aluminum is an included feature not available (except at an added cost) with other machines.Value Quality Price -

I was aprehensive when I first got my Eastwood 175 mig welder. I followed the directions that came with the welder along with suggested settings for different metals under the lid that youValue Quality Price
unlatch on the welder. I ended up with a pretty good looking weld when I practiced welding on some scrap metal I had in my shop. If you want professional results at a very reasonable price, get yourself a Eastwood Mig welder. -

I own many MIGs and TIG welders, Lincoln sp100, precision Tig 175 and Miller Matic 140 and was ready for something with more amperage and that could weld (mig) alluminum. Wow is all I can say, best bang for the buck hands down. I have used my Mig 175 for a month so far and can't believe how much better it welds compared to the above. The only thing that needs future improvement is the mig gun cable lenght, as it's a little short compared to my others. Great all around buy for almost half the price!Value Quality Price -

I have only used the flux wire and have not bought a bottle yet but everything looks up to par. It welds just fine. After 45 years of stick welding it will take a little while to get used to the MIG. I was disappointed with the quality of the cart...Value Quality Price -
