Best Bang for the Buck (Posted on 11/16/12)

Purchased welder not initially for automotive use, but rather to weld 3/16 steel on a custom made fence. I began project in one of my friends commercial welding shops using his big Lincoln machine--he retired before I finished leaving me without a welder. So far, I have used 10 small rolls of wire and half way through a large roll, two bottles of argon mix--and all I can say is this welder is awesome. When compared to my friends commercial welder, I couldn't notice any difference on 3/16 steel, if anything, I think the striker trigger was more controllable on the Eastwood. The instructions that come with the unit--and the videos set the standard for all tool manufacturers--they are top-notch and simple to follow. If I had any complaints; the first isn't related to Eastwood, but rather the shipper--the box is kind of heavy and they smashed two units--Eastwood sent out new ones right away--the last one they only broke a door hinge and Eastwood sent me out an entire new door (great customer service). My last desire is that the striker hose was longer--maybe 10-12 foot long instead of the 8 foot. I have yet to use the spool gun, but I keep looking around the shop for something aluminum to break so I can try it out. All in all, this welder performs just like the big boys, but as it is equipped, costs half the price, and has better warranty.

I drooled over this welder for over a year while I was taking a welding class. Wife decided it would be a good Christmas Present for me and I have to agree with her opinion. This welder performed as well or better than the Miller Mig machines I learned on. My only suggestion is that Eastwood make a longer cable for the gun available as an option. I'm sure the shorter length adds to the reliability and smooth operation but many times a longer cable would be much more useful when you just can't get the cart any closer, like welding inside of a car body. No regrets here and I just ordered the spot welding tip and pliers!!!

This is a great tool for car builders and restorers.

I was uncertain with the purchase but thought with the 30 day money back guarantee, why not try. I did try to purchase it through the website and for whatever reason paypal had a hick-up. I called customer service and they were super helpful. I had a coupon code for free shipping but customer service was able to find one for me with $40 off and free shipping. Their customer service is worth trying this machine if you are even a small bit skeptical. Everything I've read on this machine lead me to believe it was a good welder for the price. I've used the blue brand and the red brand wire feed welders that are in the same class. This welder welds the same if not better! I am completely impressed with it and very glad I purchased it. The purchase also saved me that little extra that I can use else where in the shop! Plasma next!

My welder was damaged. Not a mark on the Carton. Found the Face plate cracked, after opening the carton and removing the unit from the foam inner packing? Had to be damaged when packaged... Automated packing I guess?
I live 40 miles From the Store so I called, and spoke with Ivan, and he was going to Ship a new unit ASAP.
I added, I was not to impressed with the Cart. So I asked if I could pick up the Replacement, at the store. He said Come on down.
He listened to my complaints on the cart, and got me an up-graded Cart, for my inconvience.

Thanks Ivan, For...........

My only complaint so far is the nut on the guns tube came loose so I had to pull the gun apart and tighten it down and the DVD they sent wont play on any of my DVD players.
My first 220 volt welder and so far its melting metal like butter. I have no complaint for extra power like I did on my 110volt welder.

Got this welder a couple of months ago and have been using it on varying thicknesses of mild steel, it has a wide range of adjustments to make smooth and effective welds. Have purchased Millermatics and Lincolns in the past for a company I managed, for my home shop I couldn't afford those high priced units. The Eastwood MIG 175 is perfect for my needs and is affordable, haven't tried the spool gun yet, I'm sure it will work just as well.
Thanks Eastwood!!!

Recently purchased a MIG 175 welder for a car fabrication project. Easy to set up (works better with shield gas instead of flux core wire) with a little practice I could produce a good quality weld. A nice feature of this welder is the adjustability of the weld voltage and wire speed. You can "fine tune" the welder to produce a good weld with little difficulty. Overall the MIG 175 is a good bang for your buck.

This is my first MIG welder. I have never even held one in my hand before this. The only welding I have done is with TIG and only small part repair for about 20 years. The first few welds I made with this machine looked okay but after about 30 minutes, I was welding small pieces of 16ga. material together left and right. I was really having fun learning what to do and how to do it. Using a chart that shows what to adjust if the weld looks a certain way, I made changes to the settings. I could fine tune the ark to do exactly what I wanted to do with the infinity variable power knob, a lot like the foot peddle on a TIG machine. Thank you Eastwood for a well built machine.
