    Details

Versa-Cut 40 Plasma Cutter easily slices through materials up to 3/8" thick. Our Eastwood-designed plasma cutter is your smartest choice for making clean, fast cuts through steel, stainless or aluminum as thin as 24-gauge, or as thick as 3/8". Compared to mechanical cutting, our Versa-Cut 40 Plasma Cutter works significantly faster, and makes curved and intricate cuts more easily and precisely. Inverter technology offers superior arc stability and plasma cutting power using either 110 or 220 volts, making this a portable unit that is also light weight. A built-in pilot arc system allows for instant arc striking and ease of use when cutting rusty material and expanded metal. The internal moisture separator helps to ensure clean dry air gets to the torch to give you consistent results.

About Eastwood Plasma Cutter 40 Amp Versa-Cut

This innovative, affordable, plasma cutter was designed and developed by Eastwood's own R&D staff, and tested in-house on the same type of real-life projects you'll use it for. It doesn't matter where you need to work, because this plasma cutter's voltage-sensing technology lets you use either a 110v or 220v outlet with our adapter cord. Works with any standard home- or shop-type air compressor within a range of 20-65 psi; internal moisture separator ensures dry air is delivered to the torch. Rated 140 volts at 40 amps. Duty cycle: 60% at 40 amps. Weighs less than 30 lbs., for easier portability.

What is "Plasma Cutting"? Plasma cutting utilizes a high-velocity jet of ionized gas (plasma) that conducts electricity from the torch of the plasma cutter to your metal workpiece. That directed plasma stream (about 30,000 degrees F) heats the workpiece, converting the metal to molten slag. That high-velocity stream literally blows the molten metal away, leaving clean, precisely cut metal.

Set up was easy. I was cutting right away on 110 volts and it worked well but i thought 240 would be better. Ran a 240 line to my shop and the machine seems to perform better on that. I cut through 3/8 steel with no problem. it may be capable of cutting even thicker but I haven't tried yet. I would recommend this machine based on the price and quality.
Needs the correct power supply to work right, then its a beautiful thing! (Posted on 7/20/2014)

I purchased this Plasma Cutter as part of a kit with Eastwood's MIG 175. I first hooked the cutter up to 120v power using the adapter cable and had some of the same problems as some of the others listed here; pilot arc failing, stopped cutting, etc... It even tripped the breaker in my shop whenever the compressor kicked on since they were on the same circuit. It draws alot of power.

However, as I continued to try using it, I learned that it just took more care to make it work on 120v. I had to keep the cutter tip straighter and MUCH closer to the work piece. I also had to be very smooth and slower than I had expected to in order to continue cutting. After the learning curve, sheet metal and thin steel was very do-able, thicker steel was still difficult to impossible to cut effectively.

Then, I took off the power cord adapter and plugged into 240V power. The difference was remarkable! Immediately the cutter was more forgiving and it cut through 1/2" steel plate like butter. I would consider this machine a 240v only machine if you plan on cutting more that thinner metals. It will do it, but will give you issues that seem like a defective machine, when the problem (at least in my situation) was just the power supply.

The machine uses industry standard parts instead of the Frankenstein Chinese boxes with the zip tied on triggers. The 3 year warranty is also huge in my opinion when looking at a purchase. As for customer service: My experience has been great. The MIG welder arrived with a bad regulator. I made one call to customer service, after hours, and received a call back first thing the next morning in response to my voice mail. I explained the issue and they shipped out a new regulator. It was that simple. I am very satisfied with my purchase

Had minor problem to start with - apparently common with starting function (must be a small glitch in components - noticed different plug for cable?) - anyway, Eastwood picked up machine next day and back to work with entirely new cutter the next week. No questions asked w/ friendly, helpful assistance. Works great and for the price the plasma cutter can't be beat. Eastwood can be counted on to support its products.

This is the best tool I've ever purchased for the price. Easy set up. This is so much better than a cutting torch. I build demo derby cars so I'm constantly cutting. This tool has saved me tons of time!! Buy a stand off tip adapter so you don't burn up your tips.

I work for a large restoration company and we needed a plasma cutter for fabrication needs. Works well, but I would not transport it regularly due to the cheaply made housing.

I like the machine. Shipping was fast. Everything worked out of the box. My issue was the pricing. There were 2 different prices on e bay. I had the higher price saved in my favorites. I realized what happened after I ordered it and called Eastwood. They refused to give me the sale price even though the machine was on sale on ebay at the time of my purchase. So much for the great customer service I've heard about from others.

I have used this unit several times on 1/4" metal, so far so good. This unit should come with it's own water/oil separator I had to add my own it states it has one inside but you have to take the cover off to get to it I guess? Instead of giving you a hand held welding shield they should give you there Eastwood glasses, Instead of the chipping hammer they should give you more consumables. Will Give another review later on down the road on the extensive useage.

Picked up my Plasma today. Took it right out of the box, made all the connections and was cutting right away. I have used industrial plasma cutters and for the price and voltages being used this unit works perfect. Could not be happier

I recently purchased this machine and have used it 3 times. The thing is very simple to hook up and use. I am very pleased with the performance, I have cut 1/4" steel down to 18 gauge and it performed flawlessly. I am worried about consumable life but after cutting with it several times, I am not seeing any wear on the tip. I do wish it came with more consumables than 2. Quite pleased, hopefully this thing holds up well. Appears to be well made and much better torch than the Chinese models on eBay I was considering for slightly less money.
