About Eastwood TIG Welder 200 Amp AC/DC

Eastwood TIG200 200AMP welder features an AC/DC switch that allows both steels and aluminum to be welded with the same machine. With a 14' torch and a 10' ground cable, you'll be able to get into any space with this exceptional welding machine. It has pre- and post-flow adjustment knobs to protect your weld and torch. It even has a foot pedal to control amperage so you can get going quickly, without the need to dial-in the machine for a specific material. Powered through a NEMA50 plug.

Automatically switches from 110v to 220v depending on input. Infinitely adjustable foot pedal and amperage control allow accurate aluminum welding, and adjustable pre- and post-gas flow results in proper arc starting, stabilization and bead cool-down. Thumb control overrides the foot pedal for out-of-position welding, or when bench welding is not an option. This exceptional Eastwood TIG Welder is backed by Eastwood's no-hassle 3-year warranty. Try it for 30 days, and if you're not satisfied, simply return it.

This TIG welder is perfect for what I need in the shop. The foot pedal needs a little improvement, it is a little difficult to adjust minor changes while welding

I built my own first TIG welder 25 years ago, my second was a cheap import with no foot pedal. The Eastwood TIG is my third and my first with a foot pedal, what a difference!

Arc starting is perfection. The foot pedal works very well for me. On D/C the arc is dead quiet and stable. On A/C the arc buzzes but that is normal for a square wave welder. I have used the welder mainly for welding 4130 tubing on a dragster project but I have welded 1/4 inch plate with ease.

One thing I don't like about it is the short cables. I need 25 feet on the torch and foot pedal. I solved this by cutting the foot pedal cables and installing 5 pin XLR MIDI connectors and using a MIDI extension cable. For the torch I am using a 25 foot water-cooled torch, I made and adapter to accomplish that.

My advise...Please do not use the thoriated tungsten electrode that comes with the welder. These are radioactive with alpha emitters. You have to grind the electrodes often and if you get alpha emitters in your lungs it wreaks havoc with the cells. No matter what anyone may tell you, do your own research and you will see how dangerous alpha emitters are. Thoriated tungsten is old school anyway. You can weld much better, and safer, with cerriated or lanthanated tungsten.

One more bit of advise; get a high quality helemet, not the $50 dollar ones that you can get from a number of places. Figure on spending at least $200. Sorry but if you want to make good welds you need to see well. Get some magnification, either a cheater lens in the helmet or reading glasses under the helmet, makes a big difference.

So far I have been extremely happy with the purchase.

I have been TIG welding for 30+ years. I do metal art (steel, brass, stainless, and aluminium) and build art cars for Burning Man. I was on the verge of buying another Miller but in my research found the Eastwood 200. This machine works as well as any 'big name' TIG I have ever owned and cost me over $1000 less that the Miller I was considering. The only thing is that you really should know how to TIG if you expect good results.

its a good welder just wish a dvd instruction disc came with it... new at tig but very seasoned on stick and mig... would have been nice to have a green electrode with the unit for start up so a person really knew what direction one wanted to go with it all,,, other than that im already running alluminum but I was stick welding aluminum gas tanks before,,, all in all good welder for the price... only problem I really had was regulator didn't work right off the bat and dumped 3/4 of my bottle of argon , think I have the bugs out of it now thx kelley

I got this welder as a gift from my wife's family. First time I used the torch trigger stopped working. I called about getting it fixed and they couldn't figure out whos name it was under so no warranty. The next time I used the welder stopped working all together. I was extremely excited about getting a TIG but this machine is JUNK! My wife feels bad about it and is not happy about the product support!

Bought the TIG 200 along with a plasma cutter to use in our workshop at a non-profit where I volunteer. Arrived quickly, set up was easy and we were off to the races, The unit is used sporadically to build prototype equipment. A month later the unit failed, the inverter went out. Eastwood sent a replacement as soon as the defective unit was picked up. Two months later the replacement unit failed, different problem - this time with the control electronics. This time the replacement unit did not ship, as promised, when the defective unit was picked up. It did not ship the next day, as promised. Very difficult to get tech support in a timely manner. Very concerned that either the basic design of the unit is at fault or the quality control during the parts procurement or build process is bad.

I've owned this machine for a couple of years, doing small jobs w/ stainless steel tubing on my boat. It's has been surprisingly robust w/ decent results. I'm an amateur w/ welding but my Bro-in-law is a professional sheet metal worker & though he hated to admit it, he was impressed w/ the weld quality of the TIG 200. Recently I had to pack up the welder, argon tank, tungsten grinder, and all the paraphernalia to do a job on my boat- weld up a hard dodger I'm making. I fired the machine up, pushed the foot pedal & POP! the thing blew a capacitor. This is where the Eastwood company excels: called em up, explained everything & they told me to box it up leave it in the driveway & someone would come by to pick it up. Sure enough, off it went, & couple weeks later a brand new one arrived. It did break w/in the warranty period, but the ease of the return can't be beat. If this thing lasts long enough to finish this project, I'll feel I've gotten my moneys worth. Though some of Eastwood's products are not of the highest quality, they sure are a good company to deal with. I am a loyal customer.

I really like this welder have about 12-14 hours on it so far. The pedal is the only thing that could use a slight design change. It is very smooth but the geometry takes some getting us to. On higher dollar machines you set your entire foot on the the pedal not just you toe like this machine. I will make up a block to change the angle of the pedal to my foot. I would recommend this machine it welds beautifully.
