About Eastwood TIG Welder 200 Amp AC/DC

Eastwood TIG200 200AMP welder features an AC/DC switch that allows both steels and aluminum to be welded with the same machine. With a 14' torch and a 10' ground cable, you'll be able to get into any space with this exceptional welding machine. It has pre- and post-flow adjustment knobs to protect your weld and torch. It even has a foot pedal to control amperage so you can get going quickly, without the need to dial-in the machine for a specific material. Powered through a NEMA50 plug.

Automatically switches from 110v to 220v depending on input. Infinitely adjustable foot pedal and amperage control allow accurate aluminum welding, and adjustable pre- and post-gas flow results in proper arc starting, stabilization and bead cool-down. Thumb control overrides the foot pedal for out-of-position welding, or when bench welding is not an option. This exceptional Eastwood TIG Welder is backed by Eastwood's no-hassle 3-year warranty. Try it for 30 days, and if you're not satisfied, simply return it.

    Low Quality (Posted on 5/1/2014)
    Review by Todd
The first unit was replaced after the overload light came on after 3 hours of use. Replacement took 2+ weeks. The second unit would not work at all. There was a problem with the air regulation. I would not recommend this product at all. I was excited about some of the features, but if it is that unreliable, there is no value in owning it. I ended up finding a used Miller Syncrowave 180 with cart for $900. It has been performing reliably.
Just what I wanted (Posted on 4/26/2014)

I always wanted to weld aluminum. After retiring, I bought this it weld at home. I had an auto body shop for 30 years. I've used a mig, stick, and oxy/acl, so welding is not new to me. There was a slight learning curve with aluminum as well as other items you need to buy in order to make it happen.... like a tank, tungsten, and wire. Small tanks run out of argon in about 2 hours. I've refilled the tank once so far. Overall I am very pleased. I work on large scale model airplanes, and use aluminum quite a bit. Its indispensable for making up exhaust systems.

    I love it
Great Deal and Great Welder! (Posted on 4/18/2014)
    Review by Relte
I have some basic TIG experience welding carbon steel for a mechanical engineering class project, but have never TIGed ALU or SS.
Setup was quick and self-explanatory. The instructions are actually useful and not just chinglish. My first beads were on SS and looked awesome, especially for not having TIGed in 5 years. I then switched to pedal control and did some more SS and Mild. My initial impressions of the pedal was that it felt just like an on/off switch with no regulation (I never TIGed with a pedal before). I found out after I packed up for the day that I was a dummy and never flipped the switch to pedal control even though I had the pedal hooked up to both connectors at the unit. The next day I used the pedal correctly and it works much better!
The next step was to get brave and weld aluminum. After 2-3 attempts I was able to lay down decent beads but would overheat at the end of the weld. This eventually got fixed when I flipped the switch for pedal control. At that point I was able to test weld 3/16, 1/8 and 16ga aluminum with good results. I still need lots of practice with aluminum, but I believe this machine will be able to do more than I need.
I have my garage set up for 20A and 50A 220V, but decided to try the 110V operation. I welded some 1/8 MS and it worked well.
I did a good bit of research and you cannot beat the value of this unit or Eastwood's warranty and support. They answered very technical questions about the unit before the purchase and were very responsive to questions after the purchase.
There are better machines out there, but for the weekend mechanic/fabricator this unit will do everything you need it to and you will not find better value on an AC/DC machine.

Being short on a budget, this TIG welder produces quality welds on aluminum and steel. Every machine is a little different and takes some time to learn, and with little effort this machine was no harder to learn than any other I have used in my time.
Once fired up it satisfied my requirements, and exceeded my expectations in its ability to weld and consistency. Hopefully the longevity will also be there and with a 3 year warranty, you really can' t beat it for a tool. I will keep this machine but hopefully can step up to a larger machine in the future as my production volume increases. It is a worthwhile purchase for the budget minded individual that wants a good weld in aluminum and steel.

    Bad Business (Posted on 3/24/2014)
    Review by James
I have nothing bad to say about the welder, just the company. The welder works as it should. I paid $849.00 for the welder and a week later they sent me an email and said that it was on sale for $699.99. I called the company and they said that they could not do anything about it that I could send the welder back, pay return shipping and buy another one at the sale price. That`s bad business.
Seems like a good compromise, time will tell though. (Posted on 3/23/2014)

Like many I am a hobby restorer, so it was tough to justify the big money for even the smaller big name TIG machines, but I wasn't sure about the reliability of some of the new import companies. The Eastwood unit seemed a decent compromise: cheaper than the blue/red/white boxes for the size and features, but from a more reliable source for support than some of the import companies using the same or similar boxes. Plus if I do need support Eastwood is only a few hours away so shipping costs are lower.
Item arrived very fast, and shipping on it was very reasonable. It was well packaged and arrived safely (another benefit of the close distance). Ironically the consumables kit came the next day but there are enough materials with the welder to get started if you have the gas bottle.
I've used it for a few hours just practicing, and for a small job so far and it works well. I don't have a lot of experience to compare this against more professional machines, but to this point the biggest problem with the machine is the person operating it.
Time will tell if it holds up and how well it will do the various jobs I need to throw at it, but for a DIY/home setup on smaller jobs it seems like a good compromise against the other options.

I welded the top of my dash on my 1968 camaro
this is the first time I have tig welded I usually gas weld my projects , I started with 1500psi about an hour latter I looked over at the gage it showed 500psi i thought the gage was not right, 30 minutes after that I knew the gage was just fine , total of 5 rods used. and one empty tank. But yes this welder did produce fine welds.

Got this welder thinking it was a great deal for everything included, when I got the welder and plugged it in it didn't turn on, at first I thought it was the 110 so I plugged it in 220 and it still did not work, I found that the back wires were loose, once tightened the welder started right up so I got excited, I got everything hooked up got my gas going and tungsten sharpened and sat down to strike my arc and got no arc,I tried every different setting watched evey support video and still had no arc, I tried both the foot pedal and finger trigger and got nothing, I will be returning for refund definitely not worth trying another product out when just one had more than one problem
