Description
Clean old metal without the need for potentially harmful solvents with these with the Rockwood Pistol Grip Needle Scaler. They work fast on heavy rust, scale and caked-on grime removal from most heavy-duty steel or cast iron frames and components. How does a needle scaler work? It has a hard-hitting 1-11/16-inch (43mm) stroke with 6-inch (150mm) chisel fingers for maximum effectiveness. Speed is easily controlled with an infinitely progressive, rotating knob control that reaches up to 4,500 beats per minute.
Air needle scalers are an essential shop tool for restorations and are also commonly used to preserve and refurbish ships. Excellent Tool for Removing Heavy Rust
I'm about to replace the rear leaf springs on our 01 Dodge Grand Caravan EX. (Our daily driver) The shackle bolts have never been removed and had a lot of rust on them. It was hard to tell the condition of the bolt heads. To make things worse, the location of these bolts didn't give a lot of space to use traditional rust removal tools.
So, I bought this tool just for this job. It removed all the rust off the bolt heads and surrounding area in less than a minute. (Make sure to wear a ear plugs, a face shield and dust mask) To my surprise I was able to use a combination of a bolt extractor and impact socket to remove the bolts.
This little tool saved me a lot of time and aggregation. It was able to fit in a very small location and didn't require much effort on my part.

Works Terrific! A great value!
The Rockwood Needle Scaler worked terrific! I have used far more expensive units, but this tool is certainly on par with those more expensive models. I would certainly recommend the Rockwood scaler to anyone interested in the tool, you won't be disappointed!

Works Great!

Great clean up tool. I use to work on cargo vessels in the Gulf of Mexico and that is where i was introduced to the 'needle gun'. This one works great, gets into very small places. It is also not overpowered so you can clean up more delicate items.

Will this damage sheet metal? I'm considering it to remove undercoating on the hood underside bracing so that I can repaint the bottom to match the body color

Anyone know how it works for welding applications? Up to 1"?
This will work well to knock scale or slag off of a weld. The higher the air pressure you run it at the more aggressive it will remove debris off the surface.

I purchased one of these from you. After about 20 minutes of use it now just passes air through the tool with no vibration to the needles. Am I missing something or is this thing defective? My old scaler began doing the same after years of use.

How many needles are used in this design of tool. It's a common features listing, but don't see that info. Looks like it will get into tight spots, but does not indicate total length. Others type are inline type, impossible for tight locations. Thanks.
The Needle Scaler has 19 Needles, they are not replaceable. The length of the needles are 3 1/2" and the total length of the tool from end to the tip of the needles is 13".
