Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use of Rust Encapsulator on Mustang Cowl I'm working on a 68 Mustang Fastback, with the dreaded Cowl repair, I replaced the drivers and passengers side cowl, I decided to use Rust Encapsulator on the whole bottom cowl and it looks great, I also used it on the ne floorpans and it will cover the Eastwood seam sealer. I will probably be using more on the bottom side of the floor pans on the surface rust of the welds. One of the best features is that it dries in about 20 minutes and you can paint over it. PS wear clothes you don't care about and disposible gloves, because it will not come out. If you get it on your skin a small shot of brake cleaner will get it off, hand cleaner will not. Thanks for a great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product Product is very easy to apply, goes on smooth and from my experience does a good job against rust. I went over a trailer frame with a needle gun rather than sand blast and put a coat of rust encapsolator on it. Looks good and has not shown a reaccurance of rust now for two years. Trailer is not subject to winter road conditions with salt either so I don't know how it would be for that. Probably as recommended, one should top coat it with a good paint. I am currently doing another trailer frame and even though a bit expensive, I think it is worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior Product I was skeptical at first about how thin the product was straight out of the can. However,it penetrates into the surface rust very well.Use a disposable brush to work into tight, complex areas, and spray gun on large flat surfaces, and put on two coats. It is well worth the cost(cheap considering you will never have to address paint,or rust on the chassis ever again). This is hands down, the best product I have ever used!Period!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I find uses for this stuff I have used many products over that last 30 years to handle rust issues, but this is my favorite. Clean the rusty metal, paint, and you have a great surface to leave or prep for additional work. I started using this on my cars, but have since used it all around the home. I recommend it to everyone and with few exceptions it is my go to rust product. The spray version in black work great also.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Stuff I have been working on my 65 El Camino on and off for about six years now.I have used rust encapsulator on other areas on this project. It is very easy to use(brush or spray)I prefer to spray as you get a smoother finish. It applys very easy and has a quick drying time.I highly recommend.I use as a primer then top coat with the finish I'm going with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I'm working on a '77 280 Z. The Rust Encapsulator is going to get a workout on this project. You certainly want to use care as previously mentioned, and definitely use a respirator and work otside or at the least with adequate ventilation. But this is rock solid for the areas a sandblaster won't reach.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product treated my chevelle frame last Nov. been sitting outside in the elements, holding up VERY good. Recommend this product to anyone. wire brushed loose rust, brushed on product, went on smooth with no brush marks. Plan on using other items from eastwood if they work like this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product I purchased a quart to do the firewall on my mustang that had been sitting outside in the weather for two years. well after a wire wheel and some light sanding. painted on rust encapsulator and looks brand new. I would also recomend two coats. 1 coat is kind of thin.

Hello, received my latest order. The quart of RE is very watery thin,is this normal? Is this part of the improvements?I have an older quart-of black RE(pink/red label),that is very thick,to paint a 4x4 chassis. What should I use as a thinner to get more cover

Can this be used to stop rust until a metal repair can be made? Would a different product be recommended?

Asked by: LKellyHarley
Rust encpasulator is a rust preventative and treatment and will have quite a long life span when applied. It is meant for bare metal, painted surfaces, light rust, and mild scaley rust. If that fits your criteria than yes it would be recommended for your job.

Rust Encapsulator Black Qt.

Item #16065ZP

1-qt. can, reformulated with TWICE the corrosion resistance!

Stop rust in its tracks! Our Rust Encapsulator has been reformulated with TWICE the corrosion resistance! You thought it was good before...wait ’til you try this Rust Encapsulator! It seals and stops rust and corrosion from spreading, but it performs even better than our original formula. Tested against well-known brands, the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in sunlight resistance, preventing rust creep, and overall durability.
  • Twice the corrosion resistance of our original formula for greater durability (tested to 500 hours in a salt-spray chamber)
  • Epoxy-fortified for better adhesion and topcoat compatibility
  • Penetrates deeper to prevent rust from spreading or forming, even in hard-to-reach areas
  • Cures faster, and the low-VOC formula is acceptable in California
  • 1-quart can covers about 50 sq. ft.
  • As seen on "My Classic Car" TV show

About Rust Encapsulator Black Qt.

Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has been tested by an independent lab to be the most effective rust preventive product yet. Tested against well-known brands, the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in sunlight resistance, preventing rust creep, and overall durability. One quart covers about 50 sq. ft. with a double coat. Can be thinned up to 20% with lacquer thinner for spraying. Contains no isocyanates. Heat resistant up to 400 F. Made in the USA. Buy 3 or more and save.

One quart of Rust Encapsulator, enough to coat up to 50 feet with a double coat.

Heavy-duty Anti Rust Qt. (16017 Z P) is actually superior for applying into blind areas such as box sections where little or no surface prep can be done. Buy 3 or more and SAVE!

Rust Encapsulator can be applied with the Undercoating System, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the Heavy Duty Anti-Rust (16017 ZP). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds & through rust to seal surface from contact with moisture & air, but cannot be painted over so is only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.

Work in a well ventilated area when applying this product. The use of a respirator like our Professional Respirator (34029) is recommended when applying this coating.

Wire Brush to remove loose rust, scale and paint. Remove dust, grease, oil deposites. Thoroughly stir can contents to assure complete mixing. Feather surrounding paint with 220 grit sandpaper. Brush apply directly from the can or thin 20% w/lacquer thinner to spray. Single coats dry to the touch in 20 minutes and are thoroughly dry in 3-4 hours at 68 degrees F. For greater durability a second coat can be applied one hour after the first. Allow 6-8 hours after last coat before applying top coat. See can label for more details.
