Eastwood Silver Hi-Temp Coating

Product Overview:

Description

Protect your exhaust system and other under-hood parts with the gorgeous look Eastwood Silver High Temp Manifold coating. This high-temp chrome exhaust (header) paint provides a brilliant matte silver sheen perfect for a custom look on muscle cars or street rods. In addition to customizing new parts, you can use it to revitalize old headers, manifolds and other exhaust parts up to the cats. Once you’ve removed all rust and corrosion and thoroughly cleaned the surface, brush the coating on from the one-pint can or use the aerosol spray can for a fantastic finish.

Eastwood ceramic header paint is a simple single-stage solution for your under-hood components. It resists temperatures to 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit and also resists corrosion, UV rays and grime. Each one-pint can will cover four stock cast iron manifolds or a pair of steel tube headers. Our silver high-temp ceramic coating air dries to a tough, long-lasting finish that can be touched up if needed. Read our article in the Eastwood Garage for more about choosing the correct extreme high-temp coating for your vehicle. We back all our products with a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee — just one reason Eastwood has been trusted by the DIY community since 1978.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Product For the price (you get what you pay for) it is an awesome product. Follow the directions on the can. Just like any paint, After I applied it I let it, I ran the motor until the headers got warm and turned it off. Did the same thing the next day but let it get hot. Waited a day and have been driving around no bubbles or flakes. Looks great. it needs a clean surface. I would highly recommend this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fell short and bubbled during heat cycle I had my manifolds professionally sandblasted and cleaned a few days prior to applying the paint. I hung them in a heated garage and put two coats on within the 2hr window per instructions. They then dried for another two days. After reinstalling I ran the car at idle for 25 minutes to cure and this is when the finish started to bubble up. It looks like frog warts or I painted over rust. I emailed their tech who said it was due to contaminates or water trapped in the metal. Looking at others with same results online, they also were cited as water in the metal and to pre-run the manifolds bare to bake all the moisture out of the cast iron. Nowhere on the can does it say to do this. Now I either have to live with it, or pull them off, have stripped at my cost and hope this process goes better next time. Wasted $67. Should have put that money towards ceramic coating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Silver Hi-Temp Coating I have purchased a lot of product from Eastwood over the years and this was one of my favorites. Until the last two orders. the spray cans would not spray and Eastwood replaced them with new ones and they would not spray. I contacted Eastwood several times via email and go no reply. I wish I could give a better review but I am very disapointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from TERRIBLE Product. On the recommendation of a close friend, I painted header reducers and exhaust pipe with a brush using eastwood the high temp paint, 10175Z, I followed the instructions, the result was absolutely TERRIBLE. What a waste of money.

Questions & Answers

I’m thinking of using this silver high temp paint on a snowmobile exhaust pipe. From what I understand in review answers, it will give off some harmful fumes. Is there a better, less toxic paint recommended?

Asked by: Bradley
The fumes may be consistent with the the initial burn-off. after the coating is totally cured there should not be any more fumes. what has to be done to spray over rust?

Asked by: promow
As much (if not all) of the rust as possible needs to be removed prior to applying this over. We do not have any rust products that can be left on and apply this over- that would stand up to this heat range.

I'm interested in using this high temp silver on my catback exhaust system that is brand new in the box. Since there is no rust or other normal wear on the pipes or mufflers, what kind of prep is needed to apply this product and get good results?

Asked by: Matt
We recommend to rough up the surface with 400 grit paper or a red/maroon scuff pad then clean with our PRE or Acetone before applying.

I understand it needs to be cured. Is it tacky until cured? Can it be handled until cured?

Asked by: JeffK
This product will dry to the touch. However, will be very easy to scratch and chip.

Does this need to be thinned to spray the pint via HVLP spray gun from the pint? If so what is required to thin it and what is the mixing rate?

Asked by: Mike
This should be able to be sprayed with no thinning.

I’ve sandblasted a brand new set of headers, do I need to spray primer before this paint or spray this paint on the bare metal after being prepped?

Asked by: Floyd
There is no primer for this product and it should be applied over clean and prepped metal.
