What is Soda Blasting?
Soda Blasting is a method of abrasive blasting that uses baking soda as the media.

Why choose Soda Blasting over Conventional Abrasive Blasting?

  • Soda Blasting is safe to use on metal, fiberglass and more
  • Cleans & Degreases: removes paint without damaging or warping metal
  • Leaves a protective film that wards off flash rust for up to 3 weeks.
  • Does not require masking-off glass or chrome
  • Soda Blasting is the environmentally "green way to blast"
  • Cleans up easily with a garden hose

Strip and Clean anything without chemicals!

Cleanly remove layers of paint from any surface leaving it look like it was never painted! Once you have finished blasting, a film is left on the surface that allows you to store your bare metal project in a dry environment without flash rust setting in for up to 3-weeks. Blast in comfort - safe for your project and for you too. Soda Blasting is also environmentally safe to use.

Using common baking soda, you can blast: Complete Vehicle Bodies • Engine Components • Transmissions • Glass • Bearing Housings • Entire Underhood Area And more... without fear of component damage!

More Uses For Bicarbonate Soda (Baking Soda) Blasters: Use bicarbonate soda (baking soda) blast media to remove graffiti and grime from brick, concrete, limestone, granite, and other surfaces. Additional applications range from stripping delicate substrates to architectural and industrial cleaning, to paint stripping and corrosion removal. Use to remove mold and mildew stains from pools, cement, brick, tile, granite, sound stucco, siding and more. Safely strip paint from aircraft aluminum, busses, trains, trucks, motorcycles and more. Bicarbonate Soda provides heavy-duty removal of oils and grease from engines and floors.

How to Prepare a Surface for Coatings After Soda Blasting

Soda Blasting leaves a metal surface as clean and smooth as the day it was stamped at the factory! You not only have no damage from heat warping as with abrasive blasting but you also have a nice, smooth, factory new surface to work from. No danger or mess from chemical strippers and no weeks of hard labor from hand sanding. You can blast over sound chrome, glass and rubber with virtually no effect on them at all! It is also great for damage free paint removal on fiberglass too! It is also easy to clean up. After all, it is only Baking Soda!

The soda leaves behind a thin film of pulverized Baking Soda on the bare metal surface which in itself acts as a protective film to prevent flash rust for a month or longer if kept inside and dry.

The step that many users fail to do is remove this pulverized Baking Soda film prior to painting.

The correct method of doing this is to blow out any crevices or seams with a good stream of compressed air then using a clean cloth DAMPENED - (not soaked) in a bucket of hot, soapy water, wipe the surface removing the pulverized Baking Soda film, Rinse and wring frequently. When done, repeat the process with fresh, clean water, rinse and wring the cloth frequently.

After completion, do what the factory did and apply a metal surface etching solution such as Eastwood Fast Etch 19416 Z or equivalent product and you will have a surface that's ready to coat.
