Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very versatile with the right options I bought this a month ago and have done many projects with it to date. Love it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful small grinder I could have spent a lot more, but this machine does the job. It only took 3 days to get it. I am very satisfied so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I hoped for! The bench grinder/sander is one heavy item and very good looking, one quality piece. Have been wanting it for a while but just had to wait for the free shipping sale, had to be expensive. Rewired the light because it only came on when the grinder was running, not a big deal. Overall very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT COMBINATION I bought this a couple of months ago to replace my aging Harbor freight grinder. So far loving it! I've been using the belt sander a lot more that I thought I would.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1/2 hp grinder & sander I am very happy with this 1/2 hp bench grinder & belt sander.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, affordable tool This is my second grinder-belt sander, now I hav one set up wit a coarse stone and belt, one with medium stone and belt. I do fabrication and metalworking in a small garage and they suit my needs without taking up valuable space or swapt belts endlessly. Eastwood's belt selection is limited but thanks to the internet I've found what I need. Again, a great affordable tool, my first is almost 2years old and has performed flawlessly, I expect the new one to also.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Combination Grinder and Belt Sander The quality is primo and the design is all you could ask for. Price you can't beat for what you get... Love it...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feels Heavy Duty I got mine a week ago and was impressed by the weight and materials used. The motor speeds up quickly and is pretty strong. I used the belt feature to face some bushings that needed to be taken down a bit, worked perfectly. So far, so good, especially for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2 in 1 I was looking to free up some workbench space, and I am glad I got this combo unit. Pros: Good price! Great Design Small Footprint Works Great Looks Great Cons: Really, really, really bad assembly directions. You have to by 3rd party custom belts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best sander! This is the 3rd belt sander I've bought to sharpen knives I've made and it is awesome! Super fast rpm and eats away the steel super fast and does not bog down at all! Perfect for making knives!
Date published: 2015-08-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bench Grinder? Knife Maker My purpose for buying this unit is to get myself started in the custom knife making business. the reason I say get started is because most knife maker grinders can cost anywhere from $1800 up to $3000, which is something I could afford at this time. So this grinder will well get me started, custom knives can cost as little as $1000 and as high as $3500 depending on what goes into the making of the knife, you can use Damascus steel pearl handle and silver bolsters, plus many different types of handle material can be used. My first knife will be for myself and the next for are my brother in-law and his son and two more nephews who live in CA, all of which either hunt of fish. With a little warmer weather I'll be getting started, because I'll be working for now in my garage and later move my shop into my basement. So be on the look out for Custom knives by JRB or James Roy Barlow, which I hope wont be a problem because the famous Barlow Knife Company that already exist, we shall see very soon if I can use my real name for making my knives

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1/2" grinder/sander Got my new bench grinder and put it together. Looks and works great. Assembly directions could have been a little better but it can be put together without the instructions. Once I was able to track the sanding belt the grinder ran smooth and true. The little coolant try is prefect storage for the adjustment wrenches. Grinder light only works when machine is turned on. Found assorted replacement sanding belts on Amazon. I’m a happy customer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very good I am very pleased and think the grinder was good value. If I had to knock anything its the fact that the ight on mine only comes on when the grinder is on. But the light has its own switch? I would like the light to beable to stay on when the grinder is not in use. But other than that great time saver for me!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powerful Tool It's a great tool but it has one problem. the cup at the bottom of the sander belt is plastic. After 10 minutes of use, melted thru the plastic. Otherwise it would have gotten a 5 star rating.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value, acceptable quality... Purchased after I found free shipping. Had been trolling other brands and found this unit to be a good value - cheaper than some 6" machines! It's a shame the belt size is somewhat proprietary; you're not buying them at your local blue or orange warehouse store. Arrived in one piece, nothing major out of sorts except for a corner of the "coolant tray" having been over-torqued by the assembler, causing a chunk to break off. Minimal vibration during operation, slow run-up due to 110 V and 8" size. Finish is good. Assembly instructions are text only, so a little guessing is involved. Low quality tool rests, cheesy safety shield, sketchy grind stone. I removed the light assembly right off and swapped out the low-buck stone for a wire wheel. I've a set of 9 spare belts ordered through the 'net (if stores are closing because they're losing business, why not sell this stuff in stores so I don't have to buy it online??!!!). Overall a good machine; in a tight garage space having a belt sander is more useful (for me) than a grinder. Go buy it, but look for free shipping - I did and am pleased with the purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from For me this is a great tool I like multi use tools because my shop is very small and it fits my budget. Although I had a bit of a problem trying to find other 8" x 1/2" arbor wheels and belts, I since have solved the problems and every thing is great. The machine is almost vibration free, although the tool rests, for me could be a little more roomy. Great machine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good small job grinder Got my bench grinder about a week ago. Set up was fairly easy but the instructions leave a lot to be desired (poor illustrations and not very detailed). Belt tracking on sanding belt was a pain. But overall it runs smooth and vibration free but a separate switch for the light would be handy and more belt grits available also.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Product, Nice Price I purchased this unit recently. I am very satisfied with the product I received for the price I paid. I found none of the problems that others listed on the site. When I initially started the unit the grinding wheel appeared to be un-true and wobbling. I put a digital readout next to all faces and found it was running true. The visual wobbling is caused by the paper sticker at the center of the wheel. The paper colors and speed of the machine cause a visual illusion. The light switch is connected to the start which, dumb, quick fix to bypass that with basic wiring skills. I purchased this as a sharpening machine for knives, chisels, etc., removed guards, oops guard police are going to get me now, put a 8" surgi-sharp leather stropping wheel in place of the grinding wheel and a 1000 grit belt on other side. Pass your blade a few times on the belt and then a few seconds on the strop with some honing paste and your razor sharp. Wow works great. Strop wheel available at prosharpeningsupplies.com leather face and sides, $83.00. Any grit belt from 16 grit to 2000 grit is available at econoway.com. order any quantity starting with 1, price is about $1.30 per belt, belts arrived in two days out of Grand Haven Michigan. Eastwood has always been pretty good about providing quality products, so I wasn't real surprised it did not find the problems others have had. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what I need! I have been making machete' s out of old lawnmower blades and I'm using this sander to put a cutting edge on them. Works great. Just ordered 3 extra sanding belts and they arrived on time. Thanks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Buy for the Money I bought this grinder a couple weeks ago, and have gotten along well. There is ample power for metal applications, and the motor runs smoothly. On the down side, the factory stone was way out of true, and belts seem to only be available in one grit and from Eastwood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stone Bad Grinder/Belt Sander arrived on time! The grinder it's self looks GREAT! I put the grinder together. Turned on....the grinding stone wobbled (warped) something awful. I will have to go out and purchase a new grinding stone. This leaves me VERY disappointed. Makes me wonder if the grinder itself is of poor quality. I'm hoping if by a ghost of a chances....someone reads this at EASTWOOD and they will send to me a new grinding stone that useable! *********Eastwood Note: We would be happy to send you a replacement! Please email us at: techelp@eastwood.com*********

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks like a good product . . . I cannot get a reasonable/rational response regarding the until I bought. The installation instructions are not helpful and then booklet I received is hard to read. The lamp/light on my unit flops around when the until is turned on. I have a part that is not in the manual and Eastwood has not yet informed where the little part should be installed. The features look very nice - the quality is questionable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Replacement sand belts I really like the unit but if I'd known I couldn't get replacement sandpaper,(other than course) from anywhere I would not have ordered it. How about it Eastwood, you've got a decent product but why not fine grade sandpaper replacements.
Date published: 2015-04-15
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good power but parts were missing The tool has very good power, but I was missing the eye shield assembly and screws and the rest for the sander is missing. I'm hoping the company will make good on sending me these parts.
Date published: 2019-01-07
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sell your own replacement belts. The product is exactly what they show with some detail except they leave out one important fact. They don't sell the replacement belts for the sander and no one else either ,you have to have them special ordered and only the belts come in boxes of fifty. I just think that if you are going to sell a product with special belt sizes you should at least sell the replacements in packs of 5 , 10 , and 20 so that we may get more than one grit type at a time. Other than that it is great.
Date published: 2013-02-10
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Read all reviews before buying! I bought this for my home shop, The grinder itself is the perfect size and strength for what I'm doing. The problem, as others have stated, is you can't get any belts other than 80grit. There are web sites that sell custom-made belts but that gets pricey. Think twice before buying this grinder.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Grinder/sander for small shop I purchased this for a small shop and it did not live up to my expectations Grinder wheel wobbles 2x28 inch belt for sander not sold locally Safety guard on sander blocks sanding items longer than 2 inches Sanding guides on both grinder and sander are too small

What would be that cause for this to randomly shred belts? Completely randomly it does it to me. I’ll put a belt on and adjust it, get it tracking perfectly, go to grab another part and next thing I know I’m covered in my brand new belt. HAPPENED 3 TIMES!

Asked by: Dcourter0215
We would recommend a quick email to our Tech support with pictures of the set up both with and without a belt to help diagnose your sander. Their email is Techelp@Eastwood.com.

Is there any reason why this grinder couldn't be used for buffing?

I use it for it for buffing with no issues. I had to use washers to fill in the extra space since buffing wheels are thinner. Also, you will need an adapter for the hole as mine were too big.
