Questions & Answers

How easy or difficult is it to attach this unit to a table top grinder? If I was to purchase a Jet is there any modifications that need to happen to insure proper installation?

Asked by: Renee
No it will bolt on to a jet or any other common grinder, and to clarify some confusion from earlier questions  the 7” is the drive wheel  ( the wheel that attaches to the grinder and pushes the belt ) the contact wheel is the 3.5” rubber wheel which I can also grind on. However for an additional cost you can upgrade to an 8 “ contact wheel, there is a catch though from what I understand.  For them to give you a bigger surface wheel but still keep it at 48” you pretty much end up getting the 2x36 grinder with the big contact wheel which still bring the total size to  48”,  meaning if you ever wanted to go back to a 3.5 contact wheel you would no longer have a 2x48 but a 2x36 hope that helps and does t confuse even more

I have a 1.5 HP electric motor (craftsmen) with 5/8 shaft, would I be able to set this up on that motor? I'm thinking I would probably need to fabricate the mount because it was set up to go on a bench grinder. Is this possible?

Asked by: Eleactric motor
Per the manufacture this unit is designed to mount to a bench grinder such as the JET 8' Shop Bench Grinder (22984) with a 1/2" or 5/8" shaft size. Custom mounting is not recommended.

How precise is the surface tolerance of the entire surface of the platten  I need glass level tolerance.

Asked by: John
The platens have different tolerances depending on the motor the belt attachment is installed on, and the size attachment. You would be able to achieve a very precise tolerance from the factory platen, but if you need absolute precision on your tolerance from the plated. I would install a piece of tool steel bolted to the plated. Bolting tool steel to the platen to achieve an exact tolerance is common practice in the belt grinder industry. It’s a modification that can easily and economically be performed on any belt grinder. It is a modification that you can do on own. If you look online there is a plethora of information on achieving this modification.

Question for Kelly H. Are you sure the contact wheel on this machine is 8”? The information indicates the disc grinder is 7”. Just wanted to be sure.

Asked by: dk48
We apologize for the confusion. We do offer a model with a larger 8 inch contact wheel. This unit though only has a 3.5 inch contact wheel.
