Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice cuts I just got mine and I used it to cut some expanded metal into circles and it does really good it taken small bites and you just rotated around throatless feature works out real nice you can cut a lot of stuff with us it's very strong. you just have to make sure you have a really solid table a heavy table otherwise you're going to pull your table all over the shop like I did. I clamped it down to a small welding table that I thought was heavy but now when you put the leverage on it with that long handle it'll it'll walk your stuff around so you really need to be bolted down to something.

Questions & Answers

I am looking for a tool to cut license plates made of aluminum. in addition to Kevlar gloves and safety glasses, what other safety features are part of this to help ensure no fingers get cut off?

Asked by: Brad
The Eastwood 8" shear will easily cut your license plates. Kevlar gloves and safety glasses are great safety items. The only other safety issues to address would be a clean work area, a level and well mounted shear, dry floors, keeping your fingers away from the blades and good common sense. When not using the shear insure that it is locked to prevent accidental injury.

I need to cut lengths from a 10 inch wide copper roll that is 24 gauge soft copper. Each length will be 46 1/2 inches long and each length will need to be very straight and the edges very flat. Will this tool work for this application?

Asked by: Maguire2020
A large shear is best for your application to ensure the straightest final piece.

Is there a way to adapt this tool with a flat bed extending out instead of just the small little ledge to set the sheet metal on and help line up sheet metal before cutting?

Will this cut 3/4" and 1/2" copper tubing (type M or L) for scrap?

Asked by: Andrew
This shear is rated for 3/16" steel. The tubing that will be cut will crush down to a flat of copper. If that measurement is less than 3/16, then this tool will be fine for the scrap metal project.

I recently purchased the shear, done some experimental cuts in sheet metal. Finding it tough to align the blade to full cut line length due to the absence of a guide perpendicular to the blade. Any user tips to get sheet lined up so cut doesn't stray?

Asked by: choppah
When a straight line cut must be achieved, small short cuts are the best way to go. Using this method there is much better control of the metal, as adjustments can be made to stay on the line as the cut is made.
