Spread it on with a putty knife to a 3/8" thickness as close to the weld or solder area as possible. This confines the heat to the open area. Great for applications close to windows and rubber/plastic seals. Non-toxic, harmless to skin, asbestos-free, reusable.

Eastwood's Anti-Heat Compound absorbs excess surface heat minimizing warpage and protecting plastic parts during welding, brazing or soldering operations. Spread with putty knife, to 3/8" thickness as close to the area to be repaired as possible. Non toxic, asbestos free, and reusable (just add water). Withstands up to 3000 degrees F. One container has enough Anti-Heat compound to protect a 4-6 foot seam.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This stuff works great The putty was a little difficult to apply at first. It was crumbling pretty bad until I figured out it needed to be re-hydrated. After adding some water to re-hydrate it, it was much more cohesive and adhesive to the car. I had to fill a hole about the size of a nickel on a large flat area of the fender and there was no warping whatsoever.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The right tool for the job Eastwood Anti Heat Compound is an asset to the average hobbyist, as well as the professional fabricator and restorationist. Having been involved with customizing and restoring cars and motorcycles since age 11, I have tried a veritable plethora of products in my time (I'm 50 now, by the way) This is not the first time I 've used this product, just the first time I've had to replace it. The first time I bought/ used it was about 20 years ago. This product is indespensible as a jigging putty to hold small parts in place, is absolutely essential to aid in avoiding warping/ pulling of metals when seaming and welding long beads in sheet metal work, and is possibly the only way to minimize warping/ pulling when performing sheet metal fabrication in stainless steel fabrication and repair. I currently work in a food production facility, and perform all of my work in stainless, and 90% of my welding is TIG, and as anybody who has TIG welded thinner stainless sheet metal will tell you, warping and shrinkage is the bane of your existence. One of the added benefits of this product, is when it is packed across the backside of where your weld bead will run, is that the "sugaring" (oxidization) of the backside of the weld is almost completely eliminated, thus minimizing the need for back shielding the weld with a seperate rig for a shielding gas. When having to weld a stud or a brace in place in the middle of a large exanse of sheet metal, using a generous amount of the putty on the backside of the welded area, as a heat sink, will almost eliminate the pulling and shrinkage normally associated with performing these tasks. If you are a serious hobbyist, a casual shadetree repair guy, or a hardcore build it yourself fabricator like me, this product is a 'must have' in your arsenal of fab/ welding tools, and I have and would reccommend its use to anyone who does any kind of welding. Now- go out there and build some stuff, will 'ya? Lucky

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great product, terrible packaging The product itself works as advertised and does a great job, although a bit messy to work with. What is unacceptable is a $31 container of this stuff arriving with a crack in the bottom of the container from one side all the way to the other. I removed it from the package and was using it for the first time when I noticed everywhere I sat the container I had water leaking, I looked and it had a large crack all the way across the container. I checked the box it came in and the box was soaked. The shipping was $12 dollars so instead of sending it back I used my soldering iron and welded the plastic back together last night, I’ll see if it holds. Very disappointed, thank goodness it wasn’t a paint gun, don’t know how that might have arrived.

what is the difference between this "Anti heat compound" and the "cold shield"? Is the cold shield a liquid or putty? Which is better to shield heat?

The Anti heat compound is a reusable putty that was designed more for soldering since it holds up better to higher temperatures whereas the ColdShield is a gel which was designed more for the temperature ranges exposed during welding processes.

Does this product stick to itself if I'm sweating copper pipes/fittings from any position?

This product would not be the best to sweat pipes as it is better when used on a flat surface.

I've flanged one side of the sheet metal and need to run a bead with my MIG. Can I coat the back side including over the flange with the Anti-Heat Compound to prevent warping?

I talked with the Tech people at Eastwood. (Very helpful) He told me I could coated the back section over the flange. I even applied the anti-heat to the front. When I got don welding with the MIG I found very little warp-age in the sheet metal. One of the better product I've ever bought from Eastwood. Works a lot better then the copper backing.

Is it reusable

This product is reusable and water can be added to wet it. Below are the instructions from the jar. Anti-Heat absorbing compound shapes like putty and will not burn, crack, melt, swell, or interrupt alignment. Use when welding, to hold irregular parts firmly in place. Anti-Heat may be used as a heat dam to prevent heat from traveling to areas that may be damaged by heat, such as enameled sections, rubber, glass, paint, and will help minimize distortion when welding on sheet metal. DIRECTIONS: Using a thin layer of Anti-Heat, cover entire area to be protected. In case of extreme heat, use thicker covering. When used for positioning, treat each part individually. Place one part on a mound of Anti-Heat as the other part is placed on a separate mound of Anti-Heat. Position parts as desired. May be reconstituted with water for reuse. Made in U.S.A. WARNING: Protect yourself and others. Read and understand the label.
