Eastwood Electroplating System Tin Zinc

Description

"At-home" Tin-Zinc Electroplating System brings a brilliant shine to your dull auto parts.

  • Adds a brilliant chrome-like finish to brass, copper and steel parts
  • Also adds a corrosion-resistant, protective plating
  • Easy enough to do at home
  • 99.95% Tin anode

Electroplating is easier than you think when you use the Eastwood Tin-Zinc Electroplating System. It brings back the original brilliant luster to properly prepared metal parts.

This kit solves problems of sending parts out to expensive plating shops, or storing dangerous chemicals by allowing you to conveniently plate almost any metal part at home. This system brings a brilliant luster to properly prepared metal parts with a corrosion-resistant, protective plating resembling chrome but without the expense, hassles or hazards. Electroplating uses electric current to pull small amounts of metal from the positively charged tin-zinc anode bar through electrolyte solution and onto the negatively charged piece to be plated. The anode bar will last through dozens of parts.

Warranty

Made in the USA. 30 Day Eastwood Warranty.

Contents

The Tin-Zinc Plating Kit includes: 2 quarts of electrolyte (plating solution), anode bar, battery holder, funnel, a 100 gram tube of Autosol polish, an electroplating brush, goggles, and complete instructions.

Accessories

We recommend PRE Painting Prep (10041 Z) and Rust Remover (16027). Diamond Clear Gloss for Bare Metal (10200Z) be applied after plating for improved durability. Nitrile gloves to protect your hands are also needed.

Application Tips

This kit will plate steel, brass, & copper (no aluminum or die cast). Parts must be thoroughly degreased and derusted before plating. (We recommend PRE Painting Prep (10041z) to thoroughly clean the bare metal part. A clear coat like Diamond Clear Gloss for Bare Metal (10200Z) will improve durability. The Plating Solution typically has a cloudy appearance, and should in no way inhibit performance. Agitate slightly before plating. Store Electrolyte in it's original chemical container and place in a sealed plastic bag, between 55 & 95 degrees F. Use in well ventilated area. Avoid contact with electrolyte.

Safety Information

Always use the Tin-Zinc Electroplating System in a well ventilated area. The electrolyte solution contains Sulphuric Acid. Wear eye and skin protection. Keep a source of clean water nearby to immediately rinse off any splash.

Questions & Answers

Is this kid good for chrome plating control arms/trailing arms/valve covers/ coil springs??

Asked by: LowridingPeter726
Yes, this will work but additional solution and a stronger battery would be needed for components of this magnitude.

Could you take out the tin annode and replace with nickels to nickel plate a part? I have some potentiometer tuners I want to satin nickel plate.

Asked by: Youredone82
I do. I use an Ac to DC converter for my power source and do around 3 volts and 2 amps. I dip until the gummy slag builds, rinse clean with brass brush and dip again until a bright shine. Then polish. Nickel is harder brighter and has less friction thanks zinc. It is less flexible though.

Do you recommend for small carburetor? Fuel resistant

Asked by: Tito D
This kit could certainly be used for the application in reference and it would be impervious to fluids and fuel.

Is this kit tin or zinc?  It says both, but the electrolyte solution only contains tin, and the anode is advertised to be 99.95 percent tin?  Where is the zinc?

Asked by: giraffe
The Anode strips are 70% Tin/30% Zinc… We have never known the electrolyte solution to contain any tin or zinc for that matter. It has always been a combination of some acids, a surfactant,  phosphates and other vendor proprietary substances.
