Product Overview:
Description
ER70S-2 is the most popular and versatile rod used for welding 4130 chrome moly tubing as well as all mild steel and even cast steel. The main reason for its popularity is because it produces high quality welds, even when the metal is dirty, oily or even rusty. It provides x-ray quality welds with no porosity while having the highest tensile strength of all plan carbon steel filler rods. It is high in manganese and silicon and this chemistry increases the fluidity of the weld puddle, creating a better bead and less grinding.
How To Select Filler Rod
The thickness of the metal being welded will determine the diameter of the rod.
045” diameter filler rod for thin sheet metal
1/16” diameter filler rod for welding metal 1/8” thick or less 3/32” diameter filler rod for welding metals thicker than 1/8”.Match the alloy you’ll be welding to the filler rod. Here are some common applications:
ER70S-2 – Mild steel and 4130 chrome moly tubing
4043 – Aluminum ER308L – Stainless Steel Silicon Bronze – Used for brazing and even combining dissimilar metals like copper to steelIt’s usually a great idea to have a tube of a few kinds available because you never know what kinds of projects you’re going to run into. Plus our filler rods come in convenient tubes that allow you to easily open and close to keep your filler rods clean and free of contaminants.
