Eastwood B20 Benchtop Blast Cabinet

Product Overview:

Description

An affordable way to media blast parts without taking up much room in your shop. The smart, space efficient design of this bench top media blasting cabinet really can’t be beat.

.
  • Affordable way to media blast at home
  • Space efficient bench top design
  • Durable powder coated cabinet
  • Holds up to 25 lbs of blast media
  • Holds up to 55 lbs of parts
  • Upgraded Bright LED Lighting for Better Visibility
  • High quality gun with replaceable tips
  • Needs just 7cfm @ 90psi
  • 19in x 15in window lens
  • Full window sized tear offs
  • Fits in just 24in x 20in space

Use with 60 grit or finer blast media.

Use of Walnut shell media is not recommended.

The whole hinged top of the cabinet is both the access door, and the view window. This gives you much greater access to the inside then even some full sized cabinets. Meanwhile, you look down at your work through a big 19 inch x 15 inch screen, with full sized tear off protection (5pk #30770). Dust control is handled by hooking up any shop vacuum to the cabinet, or use it in a well ventilated area with no vacuum. The whole cabinet will take up just a 24 inch x 20 inch space in the corner of your work bench. That means you have nearly 3 cubic feet of work space to blast in. Just about any shop compressor can run it too; it needs just 7 cubic feet per minute at 90 pounds per square inch. The included high quality gun will work with a variety of media, and has replaceable ends for years of usage.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Kind of beat up for a brand new item. Received for my birthday. Not at all impressed with the packaging as the unit arrived damaged. Several of the sheetmetal panels are dented and bent and will require straightening prior to assembly. Instructions should state, "some repair required". The packaging is lacking. Very thin walled cardboard outer carton and no internal packing or spacers other than one rectangle of cardboard. Parts are not separated or padded and left to bang around during the tumble cycle on the way from California. So I don't have anything to say about the unit or it's operation yet as I'm not sure I want to "fix" a brand new birthday present in order to use it. :( May just send it back.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for small items. I am experienced a lot of air leaks in the beginning and had to get them sealed up. The light isn’t very bright, I would recommend a brighter LED light to replace the one it comes with. Performs well with a good amount of workable space for its size. Great for small items like nuts, bolts, small brackets, and items of that nature.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quality It works well for what it is. Media leaks out of a few seams. I din not realize I would be putting it together myself my mistake? I would go with next one up from this with less seams and less to put together.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Blasting Cabinet Ok unit. Leaks where it is screwed together due tomeyal being so thin. Light is not bright enough. The filter systen needs a cover so dust doesnt land on it and plug. Would nit purchase again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Leaks, light too dim/broke, filter is worthless I've had this cabinet for years but I didn't use it much because it had so many shortcomings. I'll list them and you can decide if it's worth $200. - When this unit arrives, it's in a flat box and is like IKEA furniture - total knock down and it all has to be assembled. That means seams everywhere even and even with the "seam sealing" tape installed everywhere, it leaks media from every corner and seam - it's a total mess to use. I removed all the media, cleaned it out and sprayed every edge, corner and seam inside the cabinet with 2 cans of Clear Seal - yeah that hokey infomercial product made to seal leaks. It worked astonishingly well. - The "air filter" is absolutely worthless. You cannot run this blaster for more than 5 minutes without losing all visibility within the cabinet. I removed the lame filter setup and replaced it with a vacuum port. I hook my Festool shop vac up to the port and vacuum the airborne media out as I'm running the machine. Greatly improves visibility but you still have the crummy fluorescent tube light inside the cabinet to deal with. - The fluorescent tube light inside the cabinet is more worthless than the filter. It's way too dim and then it died a few years ago. I tried an exterior clip lamp overhead with a 150 watt floodlight but I still couldn't see very well so I wound up trashing the fluorescent tube light setup and replacing it with a porcelain light bulb socket inside the cabinet and a rough service 100 watt bulb. With the vacuum port and the new light, I could actually see what I was doing - MUCH better! If you're willing to play Ian Roussel and totally customize this cabinet so it works like I did, then it's worth the money because it works pretty well on small parts after all the retrofitting and repair. Otherwise, it makes a mess of a corner of your shop and is a waste of $200.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Minor "Improvements" Are Needed to Make it Work I reviewed the assembly process previously. My first attempt to use the assembled product was disappointing. With fine glass bead media, the pickup tube repeatedly collapsed because of the vacuum suction (I think). The tube is too flexible, and it has to be routed in a way that makes it bend 90 degrees twice, in tight bends. I believe the tight bends plus the suction vacuum are enough to cause the tube to pinch shut. I did two things to fix this: First was to drill out the burrs on the inside of the pickup fitting. The leftover machining burrs blocked a good percentage of the pickup holes. I didn't enlarge the holes, I just cleared them of the large machining burrs. To address the two tight 90 degree bends, I used 1/2 copper water pipe and elbows to make two "corners", each with about 1/2" length of copper pipe protruding from the elbows. The 1/2" copper pipe is a nice tight fit into the supplied pickup tube. So the flexible tube is only in straight runs, and the copper assemblies form the corners. With these two changes, the pickup tube now seems to work and the cabinet functions, at least for the two hours I've used it so far. Note for Eastwood. Don't underestimate the value of product testing. Periodically take one off the shelf, put it together, load it with media and make sure it actually functions. Suppliers can make subtle changes to things like tubing, and those subtle changes can be the difference between working and not working!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It gets the job done, just needs some finesse First off, Eastwood CS has been great with the two orders I've placed with them. They were very quick to replace parts that were broken, missing and damaged upon delivery. BAD: I am certain the cabinet I received was a display unit at some point in time. It was beat up pretty bad, lots of scratches along the mating surfaces/lid and parts were missing. The front panel was warped and the window was cracked. The shipping box was immaculate so I find it funny that Eastwood says they thoroughly check and inspect all product before it goes out. GOOD: The top opening door is great and the included light gets the job done. Assembly is a breeze, the manual is very straight forward and laid out well. The cabinet gets the job done, it just needs some finesse. You'll definitely want to seal the entire box with silicone. Yes, I was given the option to return the box, but I honestly don't have time to wait on these things. Eastwood remedied the problems, but I should have received a brand new product in the first place. The only thing I'm truly mad about is that it went on sale a day after I purchased it. Don't buy this if it's not on sale.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The latch is absolute garbage I'm at my wits' end. The latch on this thing is poorly engineered garbage. No matter how gentle I try to be with opening and closing the lid, the little latch springs pop out of place and go flying onto my shop floor. This is my second go around with Eastwood products and it's also my last. Did I mention this thing was overpriced? Do yourself a favor and go with the less expensive Harbor Freight cabinet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Window is permanently installed! almost Window is difficult to change, no matter how often you chang the mylar the low quality plastic window will get damaged. To change you have to peel off the door weatherstrip. No better than HF

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Light broke after 15 minutes!! Bought this a while back and finally had a project to use it on. Excitedly put it together and got down to business. Everything seemed to be great for around 15 minutes until the light up and stopped working. This light isn't even serviceable like a normal light!!! Not even worth replacing at this point since who knows if that will happen again after another 15 minutes. I highly doubt it will last years (as it should). Now I just put a flashlight face down on the top glass and move it around to see what I am doing. Much sad face going on when using this cabinet =(

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not worth it I brought this blast cabinet and relieved it three days ago. lock for the door already broke off. Its so cloudy when blasting I cant see anything. The gun get cloudy all the time even with a filter and regulator. It leaks excessive air into the tank all the time. I am disapoint because I enjoy Eastwood produces but this is not the product for me

Questions & Answers

Can 60 grit steel media be used in this bench top cabinet?

Asked by: Harvee
60 grit media or finer will work in this unit..
Answered by: KHoffnagle
Date published: 2017-07-20

What is the smallest compressor I could use for this small cabinet.  I'm reading 10 cfm @ 80 PSI?   If that is the case, it will take a fairly large compressor to put out that CFM.

Asked by: 207CountyBoy
The size of the compressor is irrelevant. As long as it can put out the required CFM for this unit you will be able to blast away.
