SCT CUTS TO THE QUICKPurchased the SCT to remove the paint from my 1968 Camaro. Very thick paint with at least three colors and primer. The SCT cut thru and down to bare metal in seconds! Very impressed with how efficient it removes paint. Score!!

Awesome tool to have in the toolboxBad crows feet going through what I had left of my clear coat and basecoat on my car hood(2012 civic for reference). Had to go down to bare metal. Not impressed by the chemical products and process, I decided to go this route instead. This tool with 40 grit black drum(not included), got me to bare metal on my car hood in about 30-40 minutes. Add another 30 minutes to use the drum that comes with the tool to do final prep on the panel for epoxy primer. I had zero issues with the tool. Could I have done it quicker? Most likely. But taking your time when you can is always best. I got to fully experience what the tool could and could not do for me. My car hood doesnt have any sharp hard turns(hood scoops, very defined design lines) in the panel, but I can imagine doing a panel that does would be a challenge. Throughout the grinding, I was checking how hot the section of the car hood I was on was getting. There was no problem with panel warping at all. Obviously don't stay in one spot too long. Wear respirator and safety glasses. I did do this outside, and the tool didn't produce as much dust from grinding as I thought it would. After about 20 minutes I started to notice I had to apply just a tad more pressure with the tool to get the same grinding results as in the beginning. That goes for using both drums with the tool. But also a no brainer as you are using the thing to grind off paint, clear coat, epoxy/urethane primer etc., so its clearly going to wear down. I feel like I could do another car hood panel with both drums but I would be applying significantly more pressure with the tool. I would say maybe 2 car hoods per drum then you need a fresh new one. Food for thought. Hope this helps you in your future car projects like this tool helped me.

Contour SCT RocksWorks as good as described. Be aware of other look-a-like products at near the same price that have a belt drive instead of a gear drive. This is a good example of how Eastwood products are top quality and does the shopping for you to ensure quality products.

Its a really good toolI have had mine for over a year and have used it to do a lot of work on aluminum, like removing scratches out of finished product or prepping for other applications. Today as of me writing this review, it suddenly wanted to run for only a few moments and then shut down. I called Eastwood and within a few minutes i had a shipping label to send it back and get a new one. The tool may have let me down today but Eastwood customer service did not, and that is what makes the Eastwood branded tools so get, they stand behind the product they produce and when that unit fails prematurely they will take care of you.

Glad i bought it.Great tool. A lot larger than anticipand and works as advertised. I would have to say one of the best things about this is the safety aspect compared to an angle grinder with a wire wheel. Instead of grabbing and getting crazy, this tool just gently pulls forward and away from you.

Beast Mode! This tool is a beast and saved us loads of time, however we would like to inquire about a possible 20 grit drum option if available given the 40 grit works good, but it was rather cumbersome to remove the heavily aged led based primer, with 2 coats of 2 different shades of green/black paint from the 73' Dodge Charger restoration.

Good so far.I've used it to clean rusty diamond plate on truck beds and the nylon wire type wheel for it works well on the rust. There were some very severe rust areas that I used a grinder and wire cup wheel but this works great overall with the right drum on it.
It seems durable but I've only been using it a few months a few times per week so far.

Very handy tool for my restoration.I’ve been using the contour for a couple months now, doing a restoration on a car that had a complete body filler skim coat. Major amounts of body filler on the sides of this car. Also, some of the used replacement body panels have factory 1960s paint on them that was baked in the Arizona sun. Both are very difficult to get off, the contour has been my best tool to get this stuff off quickly and get the job done. Bought the 40 grit wheel, which is indispensable for this kind of stripping. Overall, very happy with this tool, just make sure you move around a lot while stripping so that you don’t overheat a section of the panel. But even just a little movement is enough.
Will it remove rhino/hercu liner on Diamond plate? If so what type of attachments are recommended?
Asked by: Eddie
One of the more aggressive drums would probably work good. The #21970 abrasive drum would be good. The narrow version #32495 with spacer set #32490 might be needed to get the narrow areas of the diamond plate.

What's the best CONTOUR SCT drum for removing rust and dirt from 2" steel tubing?
And would the finishing drum be recommending for final prep before painting?
Asked by: Boots
If a decent amount of rust is present then I would go with this Black abrasive drum here: https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-contour-sctr-abrasive-drum-4-5-inch-40-grit.html. The finishing drum would be a great option to use after then if proceeding with our Epoxy primer.

What’s the difference between strip drum and finish drum in the same grit?
Asked by: Tom B
The interleaf stripping drum has the equivalent gritted sandpaper interwoven in the drum to give it more of an aggressive stripping quality to them. The finishing drum is just the grit desired woven drum designed more for metal finishing.

How is the double keyed shaft mounted to the tool? Is it replaceable for any unforeseen circumstance due to damage?

The keys are replaceable, and we offer the entire front end including shaft as a replacement part.
Replacing the shaft itself, while possible, would require a pressing operation to free it from the bearing.

What drum would be good to strip paint from surfaces that have lots of rivets? I am wanting to strip a Peterbilt 379 truck, but want to easily strip the paint off of the rivets also, will this work, or would it gouge the rivets?

This tool in general could certainly be used but you will have to be cautious as to what drum is used on areas with these rivets. It would probably be best to use a drum like this on these specific locations: https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-contour-sctr-scale-and-rust-stripping-drum.html
