Great ToolI decided to go with this tool for the restoration on my father's 72 Cutlass. If you are on a tight budget and willing to put in some sweat equity, this is a great tool. I have been through (2)-40 grit stripping drums, (1) narrow 40 grit stripping drum, (1) descaling drum and (1) narrow descaling drum thus far. I am also utilizing the finishing drum for polishing prior to taking to the body guy for final prep for paint. The descaling drums worked great for stripping the frame and getting it ready to coat. I would definitely recommend this product.

Great tool!I just tried it on a small area on a panel and the 40 grit drum easily removed the paint and filler. I'm looking forward to stripping complete panels. Seems like a quality tool. I don't have a large enough compressor to use a DA so thought I would give the SCT a go. Looks to be just as quick as a DA.

One of the Best Tools for Autobody I ever bought. This is one of my favorite tools. Doing a restore project and using the SCT (hate the name)
to remove the 50 year old paint. This works better than chemical strippers. Stripped a hood
in about an hour after trying chemical stipper.
One of my favorite tools, very impressive.

Good tool for paint remomal.I am getting ready to paint a 1973 F250 4X4. At some point it has been painted with cheap enamal paint that is now checked and fisheyed. I need to remove that crummy paint and this tool is doing it relativly quickly. It is easy to control with the big frony handle and the abrasive cylinders are quick to change. I do wish that the cylinders were permanently marked with there grit data.

Eastwood surface conditioning toolNice tool. Needed to put a different finish on a polished aluminum firewall. This tool and the drum that came with it, put a very nice lightly scratched / Scotch Brite type surface finish. It took very little practice to get a nice straight line. Takes very little "work", just let the tool do what it does.
I also removed a lot of surface rust from a hood that I'm working on. Again, just let the tool do the work. All you have to do is guide it's direction.
As others have said, the drums aren't the longest lasting, but, they get the job done with a LOT less effort than doing it by hand. So there is that.

Will this create low spots in bare metal when removing paint? Cutting through clear, base, sealer, and primer leaves "low spots" where it's bare metal (all of the paint being the high spots).
Asked by: Johnny D
If your completely removing all the paint down to bare metal there should not be any low spots. Only if you are only removing part of the paint the lows will be the bare metal and the highs the remaining paint.
Correct.
It should not tear up the metal unless you are using the lowest grit and using a lot of pressure.
After removing the majority of paint using a less abrasive drum with produce the best result

Yes, After abrading the metal, then using prep, assures the metal is clean and ready for epoxy.
Any abrasive wheel that scuffs the metal to at least 80 grit works.

My body filler did not stick after stripping with the 40 grit drum. Had to sand afterwards with 80 grit on a da. Is that normal?

The body filler should stick especially since the 40 grit produces deeper lines for the body filler to adhere to.
How old is the body filler?

I have two 12-foot long by 1 1/2" wide by 1/4" thick stainless steel tracks that I need to polish to a mirror finish. What type of wheel would I need to use? Do you recommend a polishing compound as well?
Asked by: Chainplate
Under the Guides & Accessories tab check out the drum listing table.
I've never polished stainless like that, but I think you would want to use the Finishing drums and start at the bottom grit and step up grits and finish it with the buffing drum and some compound. If its real rough to start with you may need to use one of the stripping drums to get it started.

The included finishing drum will work well to get anything on the surface of your car off. To shine it up some you could then go to a finishing drum (21972, 21973, 21176) and step up through the grits until you get the finish you want. See the drum selection chart: https://www.eastwood.com/images/pdf/Contour_SCT_Drum_Chart.pdf
