Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needs one feature. Overall, it's a great tool. With that said, I had to add a feature to make it an outstanding tool. I don't like looking for the wrench when I want to change drums, so I made a holder using a piece of leather my wife had snipped from one of her saddles

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You won’t strip threads , but you sure strip paint This tool gets you done so much faster, cleaner, easier. Does not heat the metal up at all . Changing to a different grit fast easy . They did there home work to get it right . When I saw Gene Winfield I had to get it , he knows his stuff

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First time restorer I read a lot of people on your Facebook saying how hot the surface gets. Yes, like any tool if you leave it in one spot too long it will get hot but if you move it around with longer strokes it doesn’t get that bad. I think you should include the grey stripper pad instead of the red one. It seems that people don’t see your videos to realize that the grey strips multiple layers faster and easier than the red one. Starting my first restoration with a 66 Chrysler 300 convertible and after trying out the SCT and how fast it works decided to order the roll on primer complete kit before stripping to avoid surface rust as I go. Thank you again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXTREMELY impressed with this tool! I got the sct for a couple projects in my shop and i used it to sand the roof on my 51 Chevy and it ripped right through the rust and paint in about 10 minutes, The flapdisc drum actually worked a little too good! lol, i had to change drums to one of the scotch Brit style drums. I am extremely impressed, there is a reason almost every big shop has one of these. I also used it to strip a 55 ford in my shop and it strips/cleans bare metal very well. There is a different drum for evert job, and each drum really changes the finish and aggressiveness of how the machine works. I am a big fan and will be using it on all my builds that need metalwork.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, well-made tool! Haven't been able to use the SCT in the two weeks I've had it (insert excuse for not working on project truck here), but for the short time I was able to use the SCT, it became evident the tool is very well made. It isn't heavy, but it is substantial! I have no doubt the tool will stand up to heavy use. Coupling the SCT with the 40-grit Abrasive Drum allowed me to remove the rubbery/tar-like substance that had been applied to the floorboards on my project truck. This coating was resistant to every other method I tried (Cupped wire wheel, chemical stripper, 4-grit flap disk, media blasting, etc.). The mechanical methods gummed up and smeared, the chemical strippers wouldn't penetrate the finish to work, and the media just bounced off of the coating. I adjustable speed allowed me to slow it down and used the weight of the machine to do the work. Other than having to bend over the surface I was working on, I didn't suffer any fatigue using this tool. If used inverted, it might get heavy after a while. I also HIGHLY recommend wearing good eye protection, hearing protection and a mask or respirator as this thing makes a lot of noise stripping sheet metal and removes a lot of material in fine particles. I'm happy I pulled the trigger on this since blasting my cab would have cost upwards of a $1k and probably not worked well on the floorboard coating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from May be retiring the angle grinder Contour SCT makes metal grinding a breeze. The hardest part of using this tool is to not use it like your old angle grinder. There is no need to apply excessive force or fight the wheel. Primarily have been using the tool to remove mill scale from flat stock and steel sheets (60 grit drum). That job is miserable at best using an angle grinder. This tool accomplishes the task in a fraction of the time.

I need to strip the original paint off a 67 chevelle trunk lid. That paint isn't faded by 80 grit sandpaper.

Asked by: IdahoDan
I am currently working on a '94 Blazer. The Hood and one fender was painet before so I am taking primer, paint, clear, paint then clear again off. I am REALLY impressed by the 40 grit. It works well. Then I use the 120 grit for finish before the new layer of primer goes on.

What drum would be good to strip paint from surfaces that have lots of rivets? I am wanting to strip a Peterbilt 379 truck, but want to easily strip the paint off of the rivets also, will this work, or would it gouge the rivets?

This tool in general could certainly be used but you will have to be cautious as to what drum is used on areas with these rivets. It would probably be best to use a drum like this on these specific locations: https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-contour-sctr-scale-and-rust-stripping-drum.html

I don’t use your products for auto restoration but use them for bladesmithing. I’m curious about this product as I go through so many flap discs on my angle grinder to remove forge scale and excessive thickness of a blade. Would this work better?

Asked by: Forge of Ephesians
This tool will remove forge/mill scale and excess metal with the proper drums installed although Angle Grinders provide greater control when blade smithing. The SCT Surface Prep tool is an excellent tool designed more for flat surface work. It can also polish steel or put a nice brushed finish on the final surface of the steel. go to www.eastwood.com and type in SCT on the search bar to watch a demonstration video.

How long does a drum last when stripping a vehicle?

Asked by: Piña
There are many variables when stripping a vehicle which make it difficult to make an estimate on the duration of time a drum will last. Drum speed, material being stripped, applied pressure and type of drum are just a few of these variables. Experience has shown us that when the proper drum is used for your specific application these drums are long wearing and should provide great service.
